Opis:
In today’s reality, music is ubiquitous. It accompanies us in many places every day, providing a variety of aesthetic experiences, completely absorbing our attention or merely providing the background of our actions. We listen to music when alone, at school, in communities, in peer groups, at home or during music festivals. Often we are the creators ourselves: we sing, we play instruments, we improvise in groups, we compose. Music undoubtedly has a great influence on human beings – both adults and children; on their psyche, emotions and behavior. These mechanisms are investigated by psychology – the discipline that analyzes the origins and course of mental processes, and their influence on the behavior of the individual and his or her relationships with the environment. The mutual penetration of these two areas has been conducive to studying the influence of music on the human being. For a dozen or so years we have witnessed a dynamically developing branch of psychology, the psychology of music. It provides not only explanations concerning human needs satisfied by the world of musical sounds, but also tries to describe these mechanisms in the broadest possible perspective: neuropsychological, cognitive, emotional, or social. The psychology of music is concerned not only with theoretical investigations but also comes to the rescue in situations of paralyzing stage fright that affects many musicians. It not only tries to explain the biological basis of musical cognition, but also provides a wide range of practical implications for the harmonious musical development of the child in an atmosphere of creativity, safety, and encouragement but also mobilizing motivation. The following publication is the result of the mutual inspiration of the musical world and human psychology. The monograph entitled Music & Psychology is the third in the series of International Aspects of Music Education published by the Academy of Music in Gdansk Publishing House. We would like to thank the authors for their professional contributions. We are very glad to have such a distinguished body of contributors. Very special thanks go to the reviewers – we warmly thank you for your cooperation, understanding, and helpful opinions. Many thanks to the authorities of The Stanislaw Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdansk and its president, Professor Maciej Sobczak.

Opis:
The article deals with an issue of the possible applications of oral history to teaching history at Polish schools. The author states that oral history as an element of educating young people should become a natural part of teaching processes. It can become a factor increasing their awareness of their local history and of the links connecting them with the previous generations. It is also an efficient way of avoiding teaching based only on archival facts and events. This statement is illustrated by chosen examples of the use of oral history at schools and discusses the possibilities of its further use.

Opis:
In the following article, taking into account the difficulties in defining the concept of oral history, I would like to propose a multifaceted approach to the problem. Instead of trying to define the main issue in a traditional, explicit way, I will try to define it from different perspectives. In this way I would like to prove that oral history and its complex construction cannot be defined in a short and explicit way and the multitude of existing definitions lead to chaos and some kind of reduction. My way of defining, which focuses on highlighting significant characteristics and all the necessary elements, is supposed to overcome the previous limitations. Instead of one definition, I present several subsequent formulations, which result from the multifaceted construction of this research practice.

Opis:
The role of music classes in the development of preschool age childrenThe influence of music on human beings has been long known. More and more studies indicate a connection between the development of musical abilities and the formation of cognitive functions in children. The aim of the presented studies was to evaluate the impact of regular participation in music classes on the selected aspects of development in preschool children. Obtained results demonstrate that methodical musical stimulation plays a signifi cant role in musical development, contributes to the increase of perceptual-motor integration and auditory memory, and enlarges ambidextrous motor efficiency.
