SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE INVESTMENT
Opis:
This paper seeks the solution how to influence investors' behavior and their ability to invest responsibly. The aim is to extend the traditional approach to portfolio selection by adding ethical dimension to risk/return analysis. The first part of this study is a review of different methods of presenting the SRI outperformance – from matching approach and fund benchmarking to comparison of the performance of SRI index with the traditional non-screened indices. The second part compares the significance of financial outperformance of companies considered as socially responsible over any other companies from American stock markets. The last section of this paper contains the results of the performance analysis of socially screened companies over the last five years. These results support the hypothesis that social screens help investors to pick financially strong companies that give favorable risk-expected return relation.

Opis:
This article examines the current state of Ukraine’s policy towards emigration. The authors seek to transcend the state-oriented approach, highlighting the role that diaspora and non-governmental organisations played in accelerating the process of policy formulation in this area. Explanations are provided for the Ukrainian state’s failure to actively implement a consistent policy on emigration. A historical overview of the legal and institutional developments shows that the issue did not have much priority during the first two decades of the country’s independence. It emerges that external pressure from the EU and non-state actors was needed to elaborate a set of guarantees for Ukrainian emigrants. Since 2011 a series of legislative initiatives have been launched, whose effectiveness is in doubt as long as the country does not overcome the larger challenges of territorial integrity and financial stability. The authors argue that for the Ukrainian policy towards emigration to be effective, opportunities need to be created for the permanent consultation and involvement of diaspora and non-governmental organisations.

Opis:
In this article, we present the work carried out in our group on various fields of theoretical biochemistry. Our main fields of research are as follows: i) design of an algorithm for de novo prediction of protein structure from amino-acid sequence using energetic criteria, ii) theoretical modeling of the structure and dynamics of neurohypophyseal-hormone receptors, iii) quantum-mechanical investigation of reactions in organic chemistry and biochemistry, and iv) theoretical conformational analysis of small peptides using experimental information. The performance of different machines, depending on the kind of calculations with special focus on the exploitation of parallelism as well as the applicability and performance of various commercial, free, and our home- made software (AMBER. GAUSSIAN, ECEPPAK, GAMESS, SYBYE, MSI/Biosym) available at TASK and the importance of graphical processing of the data are discussed.

Opis:
G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) transducing diverse external signals to cells via activation of heterotrimeric GTP-binding (G) proteins, estimated to mediate actions of 60% of drugs, had been resistant to structure determination until summer 2000. The first atomic-resolution experimental structure of a GPCR, that of dark (inactive) rhodopsin, thus provides a trustworthy 3D prototype for antagonist-bound forms of this huge family of proteins. In this work, our former theoretical GPCR models are evaluated against the new experimental template. Subsequently, a working hypothesis regarding the signal transduction mechanism by GPCRs is presented.
