    The article “Arab medicine in practice and theory - counteracting the feeling of fatigue during Hajj based on selected fragments from "Risala" Qusṭā ibn Lūqā - outline of the problem” presents medieval Arab medicine, both from the theoretical and practical aspects based on Qusṭā ibn Lūqā – Risāla Fī Tadbīr Safar Al-ḥajj. The author presents the physicians profile, as written by Ar- Razii, who must know both the practical skills as well as having a wide theoretical knowledge. This article shows Arab medicine within its historical context. For discussion of the issue selected examples are derived from Qusta ibn Luqa treatises.

    This article show's life of father Agathon and his work for the monophisitic Church of Alexandria in the history background of he’s times. Agathon was a head of monophisitic Church of Egypt. He went in patriarch’s throne in 661. Agathon was a second patriarch, after Benjamin I (622-661), who reigned under Muslim domination in Egypt. Agathon continued efforts of he’s predecessor in rebuilding and consolidation of monophisitic Church of Alexandria. This patriarch, like his predecessor, was a monk. He had educated in Sancti Macarius monastery. Eighteen patriarchs of Egypt came from this monastery. As disciple of this monastery Agathon have expanded it so numbers of monks have increased.

    Theodore Abu–Qurrah was a disciple of John of Damascus. Despite his rich written legacy he is still not very well known to Polish historians. He wrote in Byzantine Greek and Arabic. The article “Theodore Abu–Qurrah’s Dialogue with the Muslim World” is an outline of his polemics with the Muslim world written in Greek. It is presented to Polish historians to show how much research must still be done on this subject. Readers are provided with basic information about Theodore Abu–Qurrah’s dialogues and polemics situated in their historical context.

    The Dialogue between a Saracen and a Christian

    Prezentowany tekst jest przekładem na język polski Rozprawy Saracena z Chrześcijaninem (Disputatio Christiani et Saraceni), przypisywanego ostaniem Ojcu Kościoła na Wschodzie – Janowi z Damaszku. Przekład został sporządzony z języka greckiego i zaopatrzony w komentarze odwołujące się do tematycznie podobnych tekstów Jana, oraz Teodora Abu Qurry. W komentarzach odwoływano się również do Koranu jak i do antychrześcijańskiej polemiki At-Tabariego. Aparat krytyczny został miejscami skonstruowany w sposób dwujęzyczny, tzn. w miejscach trudnych przywoływano zwroty techniczne w językach oryginalnych w celu porównania teksu Jana z Damaszku z tekstem Koranu. Taki zabieg pozwoli lepiej prześledzić płynność poruszania się Jana pomiędzy pojęciami technicznymi w języku greckim i arabskim. Dla lepszego śledzenia zmieniającej się dynamiki dyskusji, wprowadzono również śródtytuły, których nie posiada tekst grecki.

    Acts of sixty martyrs of Gaza is a Latin translation of the original text, describing conquest of Gaza and martyrology of Christian soldiers who died in name of Christian faith. There is little information describing capture of the garrison in VIIth century, thus the passion of Gaza martyrs is one of the few sources describing that event, allowing us to recreate the dramatic turn of events back then. It also describes Muslims attitude toward Christians in the middle east. The Author tries to identify the anonymous soldiers of Gaza Garrison who later gave their lives at the hands of Muslim conquerors because of they refuse to abandon Christianity.

    Usually, the concept of sufficient stability of a floating structure is connected with the capacity to keep a small heel angle despite the moment of heeling. The variable responsible for these characteristics is the initial metacentric height, which is the relation between the hydrostatic features of the pontoon and the mass properties of the entire object. This article answers the questions of how heavy the floating system should be, what the minimum acceptable draft is, and whether it is beneficial to use internal fixed ballast. To cover various technologies, a theoretical model of a cuboid float with average density representing different construction materials was analysed. The results indicate that the common practice of using heavy and deep floating systems is not always reasonable. In the case of floating buildings, which, unlike ships, can be exploited only under small heel angles, the shape and width of the submerged part of the object may influence the stability more than the weight or draft.
