Opis:
The majority of homing guided missiles use gimbaled seekers. The equations describing seeker gimbal system are highly nonlinear. Accurate nonlinear control of the motion of the gimbaled seeker through the attached DC motors is required. In this paper, an online technique for finite-horizon nonlinear tracking problems is presented. The idea of the proposed technique is the change of variables that converts the nonlinear differential Riccati equation to a linear Lyapunov differential equation. The proposed technique is effective for wide range of operating points. Simulation results for a realistic gimbaled system with different engagement scenarios are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed technique.

Opis:
Shortage in drinking water supply led to an increase of pumping water to storage tanks and its redistribution to the consumers. The water quality may be changed according to the storage condition and to the deficiency in cleaning of those tanks. Water samples were taken from the tanks of Helwan and El-Giza governorates (Cairo, Egypt) and examined to evaluate microbial water quality. The results revealed that all water samples were free from total coliforms, faecal streptococci, sulphite reducing bacteria (clostridia), salmonellae groups and total vibrios. The total bacterial counts at 37°C and 22°C were 32 to 185 and 11 to 135 cfu*100ml-1, respectively. The total yeast and fungi counts were 9 to 66 and 4 to 35 cfu*100ml-1, respectively. Total counts of staphylococci (from 2 to 17 cfu*100ml-1), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (from 33 to 58 cfu*100ml-1), and coliphage (from 7 to 13 cfu*100ml-1) were also estimated. The free-living amoebae were detected in 75% of the examined storage water tank samples. According to the Egyptian standard for drinking water, most of the examined water samples were not acceptable for human consumption.

Opis:
The purpose of this investigation was to compare Rapid Hicoliform Agar® (RHA, Himedia, India) with the conventional m-Endo Agar (DIFCO, Michigan, USA) for detection and enumeration of Total Coliforms (TC) and with the conventional Seven Hour Fecal Coliforms Agar (7hFC) for detection and enumeration of Escherichia coli using Membrane Filtration (MF) in River Nile water, Egypt. Sixty samples were collected (five samples per month) from five regions (Kafr El-Elw, El-Maasara, El-Giza, Embaba and El-Galatma) during one year (December 2005-November 2006). The results showed that total coliforms counts ranged from 103 to 104 CFU*100ml-1 using RHA but using m-Endo Agar the counts were around 104 CFU*100ml-1. Escherichia coli counts ranged from 103 to 104 CFU*100ml-1 using 7hFC Agar, while using RHA the counts ranged from 103 to 104 CFU*100ml-1. Statistical analysis showed that there was no significant difference (p=0.423) between total coliforms counts using m-Endo Agar and RHA media, also, there was no significant difference (p=0.546) between fecal coliforms (E. coli) counts using 7hFC Agar and RHA media. We conclude that RHA is a potential alternative medium for detection and enumeration of total coliforms and E. coli at the same time and the same Petri dish within 24h. Also, RHA medium was a very sensitive medium, which did not require any confirmatory tests and secured rapid recovery of total coliforms or E. coli.
