    Opis:
    A child’s education at an early school age is a major challenge, both at the individual and society levels. Its present shape is conditioned by, on the one hand, the development of science, especially psychology, pedagogy and didactics; on the other hand, by the changing socio-cultural, political and economic reality. These changes have established new trends in early school pedagogy. The article includes the process of reforming the school in terms of elementary education, the role and place of the teacher and student in the learning process, the objectives of early school education, the comprehensive development of the student, his activation and evaluation.

    Artykuł przedstawia zjawisko trudności wychowawczych w edukacji wczesnoszkolnej w opinii nauczycieli. Zostały w nim zawarte wyniki badań empirycznych uwzględniające rozmiar zjawiska, jego przejawy, przyczyny, a także działania profilaktyczne podejmowane przez szkoły w tym zakresie.

    Powszechny dostęp do internetu generuje dużą aktywność, szczególnie dzieci i młodzieży, w zakresie korzystania z jego zasobów. Internet może stwarzać szansę dla rozwoju człowieka, ale też stać się źródłem wielu zagrożeń, głównie dla jego najmłodszych użytkowników. Skutki korzystania z internetu są determinowane przede wszystkim przez czas, jaki poświęca się na „bycie w sieci”, oraz jakość treści, z którymi się tam styka, i działania, jakie się podejmuje. W artykule przedstawione są wyniki badań dotyczące aktywności internetowej dzieci i młodzieży na różnych etapach edukacyjnych. Na podstawie analizy wyników badań podjęto próbę przedstawienia wskazań dla pracy pedagogicznej skierowanej na minimalizowanie zagrożeń wynikających z nieświadomego korzystania z sieci.
    Common access to the Internet brings huge activity, especially among kids and youth, in the aspect of using its resources. Internet may give an opportunity to develop a person but may be a source of many dangers, especially for its youngest users. The results of using the Internet are appointed by the time which is spent being „online” and the quality of the content which are encountered and actions taken. In the elaboration some results of research concerning children’s and youth’s Internet activity on different educational levels. On the grounds of the analysis I attempted to present indications to pedagogical work directed to minimise dangers consequent of unaware using the Internet.

    A man builds his own hierarchy of values during the whole life. The hierarchy structure is impacted by environment in which the man lives, mainly: family, kindergarten, school, peer group, church, mass media as well as important or chance events that man experiences during his/her life. However, the key meaning in understanding the essence of fundamental values, respecting them and building so-called moral core is family upbringing. Both parents and other family members, especially grandparents, play essential role in this process. In this paper we present results of empirical research. The main objective was to learn the opinion of older generation representatives on the values in modern world in the context of intergenerational transmission and determining factors.

    The biofiltration process in the biologically activated carbon filters (BAC) is one of advanced methods of water treatment. It enables efficient elimination of dissolved organic matter and some inorganic pollutants. The production of high-quality drinking water requires an appropriate method of filter work control based on biofilm growth assessment. The first aim of the study was to assess the microbial development in beds of two BAC filters with the use of various methods. The second aim was to compare the obtained results and indicate the method which could support filter operators during routine control of biofiltration process. The study was carried out in a pilot scale on models of BAC filters during two filter runs. The analysis of microorganisms was performed in water samples collected from different depths of the filter beds with the use of culture method (HPC), metabolic activity assay (with the FDA), epifluorescence microscopy – total cell count method (TCC) and biochemical method (system Vitek 2 Compact). No statistical correlation between HPC and metabolic activity assay was noted. Total bacteria number determined with the use of TCC was approx. 100–900 times higher than in the HPC method. The biochemical tests revealed the presence of several Gram-negative species. The comparison of the applied methods shows that microbial activity assay is the most useful, fast and low-cost method which may be applied additionally to the HPC method at standard water treatment plant laboratory.

    Filtration through biologically active carbon (BAC) filters is an effective method of organic matter removal during drinking water treatment. In this study, the microbial community in the initial period of filters’ operation, as well as its role in the organic matter removal were investigated. Research was carried out in a pilot scale on two BAC filters (Filter 1 and Filter 2) which were distinguished by the type of inflowing water. It was observed that the number of heterotrophic plate count bacteria and total microbial activity were significantly higher in water samples collected from Filter 2, which received an additional load of organic matter and microorganisms. Despite the differences in the values of chemical and microbiological parameters of inflowing water, the composition of the microbiome in both filters was similar. The predominant taxon was a bacterium related to Spongiibacter sp. (Gammaproteobacteria) (>50% of relative abundance). In both filters, the efficiency of organic matter removal was at the same level, and the composition and relative frequency of predicted functional pathways related to metabolism determined using PICRUSt (Phylogenetic Investigation of Communities by Reconstruction of Unobserved States Software) at level 3 of KEGG (Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes) Orthology – were also similar. The study demonstrated that a 40-day period of filter operation after filling with virgin granular activated carbon, was sufficient to initiate biofilm development. It was proved, that during the initial stage of filter operation, microorganisms capable of biodegradation of various organic compounds, including xenobiotics like nitrotoluene, colonized the filters.
    Filtracja przez biologicznie aktywne filtry węglowe (BAF) jest skuteczną metodą usuwania materii organicznej podczas uzdatniania wody przeznaczonej do spożycia przez ludzi. W niniejszej pracy zbadano zbiorowisko drobnoustrojów w początkowym okresie eksploatacji filtrów oraz jego rolę w usuwaniu materii organicznej z wody. Badania przeprowadzono w skali pilotowej na dwóch filtrach BAF (Filtr 1 i Filtr 2) różniących się składem dopływającej wody. Stwierdzono, że liczba bakterii heterotroficznych i całkowita aktywność mikrobiologiczna były znacząco większe w próbkach wody pobranych z Filtra 2 – zasilanego wodą wzbogaconą o dodatkowy ładunek materii organicznej i mikroorganizmów. Pomimo różnic w wartościach parametrów chemicznych i mikrobiologicznych dopływającej wody, skład mikrobiomu w filtrach był podobny. W obu filtrach dominującym taksonem była bakteria spokrewniona z Spongiibacter sp. (Gammaproteobacteria) (>50% względnej liczebności). W obydwóch filtrach efektywność usuwania materii organicznej była na podobnym poziomie oraz skład i względna częstość występowania przewidywanych szlaków funkcjonalnych związanych z metabolizmem, oznaczone przy użyciu PICRUSt (Phylogenetic Investigation of Communities by Reconstruction of Unobserved States Software) na poziomie 3 KEGG (Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes) Orthology były również zbliżone. Badania wykazały, że 40-dniowy okres pracy filtrów po napełnieniu świeżym granulowanym węglem aktywnym był wystarczający do rozwoju biofilmu. Udowodniono, że w początkowym okresie pracy złoża filtracyjne zasiedlane były przez mikroorganizmy zdolne do biodegradacji różnych związków organicznych, w tym ksenobiotyków, np. nitrotoluenu.
