Opis:
This paper presents errors that occur in blending digital visualization with digital photos. Many examples demonstrate the ignorance of geometric relations present in perspective mapping. In some cases, it seems that there are not errors but purposeful activities aiming at such presentation of the proposed object that the project will be approved for implementation.

Opis:
For this study, the rate of soil respiration was estimated based on monthly measurements of 20 research points representing different types of plant communities. Meadows were found to have the highest rates of soil respiration, whereas rates measured in forests were lower. However, the seasonality of leaf and pine needle decomposition caused large variation in the CO2 fluxes from forest soils. Furthermore, the carbon content at both, the soil surface and 5 cm below ground, affected spatial differentiation of soil respiration in summer and autumn, while the carbon content at 5 cm below ground also affects the spatial variability of annual CO2 fluxes from the soil. Amazingly, however, results of research indicate that the carbon content throughout the whole humus layer does not impact soil respiration. It was also observed that changes in relief affected rates of soil respiration due to differences in sunlight exposure and the history of land use, which can markedly reduce the impact of the carbon content at 5 cm below ground on soil respiration.

This paper presents signal synchronization aspects in a large, distributed, multichannel RPC Muon Trigger system in the CMS experiment. The paper is an introduction to normalized structure analysis methods of such systems. The method introduces a general model of the system, presented in a form of a network of distributed, synchronous, pipeline processes. The model is based on a definition of a synchronous data stream and its formal, fundamental properties. Theoretical considerations are supported by a practical application of synchronous streams and processes management. The following processes were modeled and implemented in hardware: window synchronization, derandomization, data concentration and generation of test pulses. There are presented chosen results of the model application in the CMS experiment.

The aim of this article is to identify and discuss some issues related to functional safety and security management in hazardous industrial plants. The safety functions are to be realised using the electric / electronic / programmable electronic systems (E/E/PESs) or the safety instrumented systems (SISs) that are designed and operated respectively according to IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 requirements in life cycle. Although the role of functional safety solutions in effective reducing and controlling the individual and/or societal risks has been widely recognised, the substantial problems emerge when E/E/PEs or SISs operate in industrial distributed computer networks. Thus, the security-related problems appear that can introduce some additional risks. An integrated systemic functional safety and security concept is proposed, which includes general requirements as well as appropriate using specified methods and international standards.

The aim of this article is to identify and discuss some issues of the safety systems’ design for nuclear power plants equipped with the light water reactors using a defence in depth (D-in-D) conception. Because the functional safety solutions play nowadays an important role for the risk control, the basic requirements for the instrumentation and control systems are specified with regard to relevant international standards. For the design purposes the safety functions are categorized into three categories. The I&C systems implementing these functions are assigned to one of three classes that conform to defined design, manufacturing and qualification requirements. These systems are designed to implement functions of relevant categories. Additional design requirements are discussed, including hardware and software aspects, to achieve and maintain the required reliability commensurate with the importance of the safety functions to be performed to reduce risk.

Opis:
In this article some issues concerning the safety management in computerized complex hazardous plant are presented in the context of human factors. It has been shown that the risk of losses can be significantly reduced using appropriate technical solutions in the form of a layer protection system, which includes a basic process control system, human-operator and protection automatics. The significance of appropriate designing of interfaces including functions of the alarm system is emphasized. It will contribute to reducing the humanoperator error probability. The functional safety management, which includes the risk control in a life cycle of complex plant, should be carried out in relation to requirements associated with possible avoiding of software systematic failures in programmable systems and reducing the frequency of hardware random failures.

This article addresses selected aspects of the alarm system and human factors that should be evaluated during the design and operation of an industrial hazardous installation. In such installations the layer of protection analysis (LOPA) methodology is often applied for simplified risk analysis based on defined accident scenarios. To reduce and control the risks the safety instrumented functions (SIFs) are identified and their safety integrity levels (SILs) determined taking into account defined criteria the risk evaluation results. Given SIF is implemented using the basic process control system (BPCS), the alarm system (AS) and the safety instrumented system (SIS). Nevertheless a crucial role plays the human-operator undertaking safety-related decisions during potential abnormal situations and accidents. Below some issues concerning requirements for the alarm system design in context of human factors are outlined and discussed.

Opis:
Massive emissions of CO2 into the atmosphere are the most direct reason causing global warming and climate change, so more and more countries are starting to focus on carbon abatement technologies. In recent years, the method GCS (Geological Carbon Storage), injecting the CO2 in a supercritical state underground for storage, is considered the most effective way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Saline aquifers are given special attention because of its huge amount of storage and, therefore, a deep saline aquifer is the best choice for the storage of CO2. Exemplified by the well-explored Konary structure in the Polish Lowlands, results of assessments of CO2 storage capacity are compared for three cases: (1) a simplified formula based on averaged geological and reservoir parameters and (2) a model of the structure based on averaged geological and reservoir parameters (homogeneous model) and (3) a model of the structure with more detailed geological data (including those on clay interbeds in the sandstone series of the reservoir horizon – heterogeneous model). This allows the estimation of how providing of details of geological and reservoir data, introduced into the model, can affect the ability of CO2 migration within a reservoir horizon intended for CO2 storage, and, consequently, also obtain a more accurate assessment of the capacity that the structure is capable of attaining.

Soil respiration was measured on rusty soil in a dry forest near Łódź. A two-year series of soil respiration was divided into characteristic sub-periods and relationships between CO2 emission from the soil as well as selected aspectsof climatic conditios were examined. The temperaturedependence of CO2 fluxes from the soil is linear from March to June and expotential duringthe period from June to March. Dividing the year into aphase of growth and a phase of decline and modeling soil respiration for each of these sub-periods separately does not significantly improve the accuracy of the model. The studies have also shownthat soil respiration responds with a delay of three days to changes in temperature and relative moisture, but with a 17-day delay to changes in precipitation.
