Opis:
Modeling of reliability characteristics typically assumes that components and systems fail if a certain individual damage level is exceeded. Every (mechanical) system damage increases irreversibly due to employed loading and (mechanical) stress, respectively. The main issue of damage estimation is adequate determination of the actual state-of-damage. Several mathematical modeling approaches are known in the literature, focusing on the task of how loading effects damage progression (e.g., Wöhler, 1870) for wear processes. Those models are only valid for specific loading conditions, a priori assumptions, set points, etc. This contribution proposes a general model, covering adequately the deterioration of a set of comparable systems under comparable loading. The main goal of this contribution is to derive the loading-damage connection directly from observation without assuming any damage models at the outset. Moreover, the connection is not investigated in detail (e.g., to examine the changes in material, etc.) but only approximated with a probabilistic approach. The idea is subdivided into two phases: A problem-specific relation between loading applied (to a structure, which contributes to the stress) and failure is derived from simulation, where a probabilistic approach only assumes a distribution function. Subsequently, an adequate general model is set up to describe deterioration progression. The scheme will be shown through simulation-based results and can be used for estimation of the remaining useful life and predictive maintenance/control.

Opis:
The experimental technique of spin polarised neutron scattering as used in magnetic form factor measurements is presented. An introduction to the interpretation and the calculation of magnetic form factors and magnetization densities is given. The experimental technique of neutron scattering theory as applied to elastic spin polarised scattering experiments is briefly introduced. The calculation of the magnetic form factor and the magnetization densities are considered for simple model systems such as a collection of localised magnetic moments or an itinerant electron system. The discussion is illustrated by an experimental investigation of the magnetic form factor in the heavy fermion superconductors UBe$\text{}_{13}$ and UPt$\text{}_{3}$. Magnetization density maps and magnetic form factors are presented, and their implications for other physical quantities are briefly discussed.

Opis:
Rubbers are interesting materials and are extensively used in many mining industries for material transportation. Wear of rubber is a very complex phenomenon to understand. The present study aims to explain the influence of rock properties on wear of M and SR grade rubber used in top cover of conveyor belts. Extensive laboratory experiments were conducted under four combinations of normal load and sliding speed. The wear of both the rubber types were analyzed based on the rock properties like shear strength, abrasivity index and fractal dimension. A fully instrumented testing set up was used to study the wear of rubber samples under different operating conditions. In general, wear was higher for M grade rubber compared to SR grade rubber. Increase in shear strength of rocks depicts decreasing trend for the wear of M and SR grade rubber at lower load conditions. Moreover, a higher load combination displays no definite trend in both the rubbers. The strong correlation between the wear of rubber and frictional power for all rubber-rock combinations has given rise to the parameter A, which reflects the relative compatibility between the rubber and rock. Increase of Cerchar’s Abrasivity Index of rocks shows gradual enhancement in wear for M grade rubber in all the load and speed combinations whereas, it fails in SR grade rubber due to its higher strength. The wear of rubber tends to decrease marginally with the surface roughness of rocks at highest normal load and sliding speed in M grade rubber. However, the wear of M and SR grade rubber is influenced by the surface roughness of rocks.

Opis:
Today, several fruit species are used for different purposes in alternative medicine. Among those species, barberry species are commonly used in treatment of various diseases. Jeti-Oguz District of Issyk Kul located around Issyk Lake in North-east of Kyrgyzstan has a unique flora and wild Berberis sphaerocarpa Kar. et Kit. (spherical-fruited barberry) species have a great place in regional flora. The fruits, leaves and roots of these species are commonly used by local people as functional products in alternative medicine. The most significant parameter in this wild population is the morphological variation in fruits and leaves. In this study, pomological analyses were performed on ripened black fruits of 26 wild genotypes. Pomological analyses yielded the fruit weights as between 0.23 g (01-JO-006) and 0.61 g (01-JO-025); total soluble solids as between 16.67% (01-JO-014) and 18.73% (01-JO-010 and 01-JO-018). Fruit shapes of genotypes were identified as long, long-spherical, spherical and oblate spherical. Significant variations were observed in morphological characteristics of spherical-fruited barberry genotypes through pomological analyses and field observations.

Opis:
The CdTe(100) c(2×2) surface prepared by ion bombardment and annealing was investigated by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy using synchrotron radiation with photon energies between 8.5 eV and 32 eV. The bulk band structure was determined along the ΓΔX-direction normal to the surface measuring energy-distribution curves. The results are compared with a theoretical valence band structure assuming free-electron-like final states in connection with k-conservation. For further comparison we calculated the final states by the pseudopotential method and analyzed the results in form of structure plots. In this way, most of the dispersing maxima in the normal emission spectra can be explained. For this mode of photoelectron spectroscopy the resulting dispersion must be due to the component of the Bloch wave vector normal to the surface, k$\text{}_{⊥}$, keeping surface related structures at a fixed binding energy position E$\text{}_{b}$. The lack of dispersion for five structures along ΓΔX gives experimental evidence for their surface origin.
