    Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie miejsc, w których ukryto wczesnośredniowieczne monety na terenie Kalisza i okolic (Kalisz-Szałe, Kalisz-Zawodzie, Kalisz-Rajsków, Jastrzębniki i Kalisz Dobrzec). Dotychczasowe badania Małgorzaty i Mirosława Andrałojciów, Patrycji Silskiej i Piotra Szyngiery, dotyczące kontekstu archeologicznego deponowanych w X, XI i początkach XII wieku zespołów srebrnych wykazały, że depozyty z Wielkopolski ukrywane były przede wszystkim poza terenami zamieszkałymi: osadami i grodami. Większość analizowanych znalezisk pochodzi z dużych osad, funkcjonujących również w okresie późnego średniowiecza i czasów nowożytnych, a tylko monety z Kalisza-Szałe ukryto na terenie krótko istniejącej osady W studium przeanalizowano pięć zespołów, których miejsca odkrycia są znane. pod kątem lokalizacji na tle ówczesnego osadnictwa. Jedynie zespół z Kalisza-Dobrzeca został zdeponowany na peryferiach dawnej wsi. Zespoły ukryto na osadach leżących na ważnych szlakach handlowych łączących Kalisz ze wschodem i północą.
    The aim of this paper is to list all the places in which early medieval coins were deposited in Kalisz and the surrounding area (Kalisz-Szałe, Kalisz-Zawodzie, Kalisz-Rajsków, Jastrzębniki and Kalisz Dobrzec). Recent research into the archaeological contexts of silver hoard assemblages deposited in the 10th, 11th, and the beginning of the12th century by Małgorzata and Mirosław Andrałojć, Patrycja Silska and Piotr Szyngiera has proved that deposits from Greater Poland were hidden principally outside of residential areas, either settlements and strongholds. Five assemblages are analyzed in the text. The places of their discovery are known in terms of their relationship to known areas of settlement of their time. The coins were been hidden in areas of early medieval settlements. Only the assemblage found at Kalisz-Dobrzec was deposed on the periphery of a former village. The majority of the assemblages come from large settlements which also functioned through the later Middle Ages down to modern times. Only the coins from Kalisz-Szałe were hidden at a site which was settled for a short duration of time. Hoards from Kalisz and its surroundings were hidden in settlements located on important trade routes, which in early medieval times connected Kalisz with the East and the North.

    Opis:
    Zbigniew, Wladyslaw I Herman's (approx. 1080-1102) elder son, is one of the few ruling Piast princes whose coins have not been identified as yet. In the years 1097-1106 the prince had authority in Great Poland, in the land of Sieradz and Leczyca, not later than from 1102 - also in Mazovia. Thus a question arises: didn't he ever start any coinage? As it is, he never produced any money with his name or image on it, yet, he seemed to have struck anepigraphic denarii with the image of a cross, called cross denarii. Two hoards from south-eastern Great Poland: from Kalisz and nearby Sluszkow, remarkably diversified in volume provide arguments for the foregoing assumption. They have been dated to the first years of the 12th century, i.e. Zbigniew's reign in Great Poland. The first of the hoards (recently discovered in the Old Town in Kalisz) comprises merely of 4 cross denarii of the youngest types, among them two specimens of the CNP 867-868 Type. Save for the hoard in question, coins of that kind are known only from the large cross denarii complex of Sluszkow, dated by a denarius of Hungarian Koloman (1095-1114) to approx. 1105. Among the preserved 13 061 coins, 12 829 are cross denarii - 1470 of them are specimens of the CNP 867-868 Type. The latter having been included in Zbigniew's coinage on the basis of the very late chronology thereof, corresponding to the prince's rule in Great Poland. Coins of another variant, older by a few years, similar to the CNP 813, may be also associated with the prince. Beyond south-eastern Great Poland (Sluszkow and Kalisz?), finds of the CNP 813 Type occurred in Sieradz and Leczyca land (CNP 813/858 denarius) and in Silesia (Krosno Odrzanskie? CNP 813/858). The large bulk of the preserved denarii appeared in the Sluszkow hoard -1916 complete specimens, the other deposits comprised just single specimens. Finds of the CNP 813 coins occurred in the territory ruled by Zbigniew at the turn of the 11th century; they might have made up his first issue of metal money. Obviously there is no unquestionable proof of the existence of Zbigniew's coinage, however he might have produced coins in the territory of his state in the last years of the 11th and at the beginning of the 12th centuries?     Archaeological excavations conducted recently in Kalisz brought about two groups of Jagiellonian pennies. One is a small hoard of less than twenty coins of Vladislaus Jagiełło, found near the St. Joseph Sanctuary. The other comprises 37 coins found separately in archaeological excavations at early mediaeval settlement known as Stare Miasto (Old Town), adjacent to the hillfort at Zawodzie.

    The Outer Carpathians are known for a few sections, where transitions from the Upper Cretaceous to the Palaeogene, including the K-Pg boundary interval, were described. One of them, the Bąkowiec section in the Skole Nappe, was examined with reference to the record of biostratigraphy and palaeoenvironmental changes, mainly based on the analysis of calcareous nannofossil assemblages. This study shows no evidence for the K-Pg boundary; however, the presence of the nannofossil species Micula prinsii, marking the topmost Maastrichtian UC20dTP Zone, was noted. The appearance of this low-latitude taxon and relevant changes in the composition of nannofossil assemblages indicate an influx of Tethyan warm water into the northern Carpathian basins during the latest Maastrichtian, shortly before the K-Pg boundary event. Therefore, the authors infer that the upper part of the Bąkowiec section recorded the latest Maastrichtian warming of climate, probably triggered by Deccan volcanic activity.
