    The article discusses the influence of western subcultures on the Polish stadium hooligans and analyses the symbols and gestures characteristic of these groups, as well as outlines the Polish stadium symbolism. On the basis of her own research, the author provides the answers to the following questions: Which dominates at the Polish stadiums – symbolism or gestures? What kinds of symbols are most frequently used by the Polish pseudo-football fans? The author also determines the times when this symbolism was demonstrated the most often, and lists the places where certain symbols were frequently exhibited, as well as the types of matches (home and international) during which it happened.
    Artykuł omawia oddziaływanie zachodnich subkultur na polskich chuliganów stadionowych oraz analizuje charakterystyczne dla tych grup symbole i gesty, a także przybliża polską symbolikę stadionową. Autorka na podstawie własnych badań udziela odpowiedzi na następujące pytania: czy na polskich stadionach dominuje symbolika czy gesty? Jakiego rodzaju symbole używane są przez polskich pseudokibiców najczęściej? Określa także ramy czasowe, w których najczęściej dochodziło do eksponowania tej symboliki. Wymienia również miejsca, gdzie zwykle umieszczane były określone symbole, i kategorie meczów (skala krajowa lub międzynarodowa), podczas których dochodziło do eksponowania tych symboli.

    The article is divided into two main parts. It refers to selected data on hate crimes recorded in Poland and Police effectiveness regarding preventing, investigating and combating such kinds of crimes. Based on available sources there is no problem with extremist activity in a large-scale in Poland nowadays, but for sure there is an urgent one with the increasing number of hatemotivated incidents, both with its social impact. Awareness-raising and educational campaigns that aim at promoting respect for human rights and tolerance for diversity are much needed in this matter. Also, law enforcement agencies, including Police, play a key role while tackling racism and bias. An uncontrolled and unpunished manifestation of hate, both with the lack of an appropriate and unequivocal state response to such incidents, also quiet, social approval to hate-motivated behaviours, seem to be the main components of extreme movements growing. Thus, the main aim of the article was to describe the phenomenon of hate-motivated incidents that were reported in Poland within the past years and to diagnose Polish police officers’ skills, knowledge and qualification in this field, both qualitative analyses of accessible training programmes. Selected terms (racism, discrimination, intolerance, xenophobia and hate speech) and symbols (the Celtic Cross, the SS-Totenkopf and the Triskele) that promote hate were defined (part 1) both with Police officers’ identification accuracy. Research results presented in this article were gathered by using a variety of methods and techniques, both theoretical and empirical (part 2). The data that refers to Police competence in the context of preventing, investigating and combating hate crimes was mainly collected as a part of a doctoral research conducted by the author in 2012–2014.

    The main aim of the article is to present the results of the surveys conducted among the graduates of the specialist course for police operations commanders at the Police Academy in Szczytno, who participated in the course in 2014–2020. The course uses a tool of modern technology in the form of a simulator of Police operations in crisis situations. The essence of the research was, therefore, to verify the impact of simulation training as part of a specialist course for commanders of police actions and operations on the real scope and manner of tasks performed by its graduates, i.e. on commanding actual police activities to ensure and maintain public safety and order during mass events, in including sports events, public gatherings and celebrations, and other collective disturbances of public order. It should be emphasised that due to the often signifi cant lapse of time after the end of the course, the respondents formulated their opinions based on subsequent experiences and analysis of actual facts, in the context of knowledge and skills acquired during the training.

    The main objective of the article is to present the results of the evaluation carried out among participants of a specialist training course for police operations commanders which was offered by the Police Academy in Szczytno in 2014–2019. The course in question uses a police operations simulator as a modern technology tool for responding to emergencies. Both the functionality of the simulator and a modern form of simulation training, which has replaced the previous theoretical work based on paper maps, have completely changed the methods employed for in-service training, thanks to which teaching outcomes can be achieved more effectively, and police offi cers’ skills can be developed and refi ned with practice. The use of the police operations simulator for training purposes improves police command and control systems and increases the level of in-service training received by commanding offi cers, which in turn results in an effective management of human and material resources while carrying out police operations targeted at the maintenance of public order and safety at major events, including sports events, public gatherings and ceremonies, and any different forms of disturbance to public order. Evaluated have been the following issues: assessment of the training course curriculum, the knowledge and practical skills acquired during the course, and the level of satisfaction of the respondents with their participation in the course. Of key importance has been to identify the extent to which the Police Academy’s training efforts and research projects in the area of internal security affect the development of the system of in-service training offered to police officers.

    Głównym celem artykułu jest prezentacja wyników ewaluacji przeprowadzonej wśród uczestników kursu specjalistycznego dla dowódców operacji policyjnych w Wyższej Szkole Policji w Szczytnie w latach 2014–2019. Przedmiotowy kurs wykorzystuje narzędzie nowoczesnej technologii w postaci symulatora działań Policji w sytuacjach kryzysowych. Zarysowane funkcjonalności symulatora i nowoczesna formuła szkolenia wykorzystująca trening symulacyjny, w miejsce dotychczasowej teoretycznej pracy na papierowych mapach, zdają się przesądzać o diametralnej zmianie sposobu prowadzenia zajęć i bardziej efektywnym osiąganiu zakładanych celów dydaktycznych, w tym pogłębianiu umiejętności praktycznych funkcjonariuszy Policji. Wykorzystanie w szkoleniach symulatora działań Policji w sytuacjach kryzysowych wpływa na doskonalenie systemu dowodzenia w Policji, wzrost wyszkolenia kadry dowódczej polskiej Policji, a przez to na efektywność zarządzania zasobami ludzkimi i materiałowymi podczas realizowanych operacji policyjnych, ukierunkowanych na utrzymanie bezpieczeństwa i porządku publicznego podczas imprez masowych, w tym sportowych, zgromadzeń i uroczystości publicznych czy innego zbiorowego zakłócenia porządku publicznego. Ewaluacji poddano zagadnienia takie jak: ocena programowa kursu, zdobytej podczas kursu wiedzy i umiejętności praktycznych, jak również ogólny poziom zadowolenia respondentów z uczestnictwa w kursie. Kluczowym było ustalenie, w jakim zakresie podejmowane w WSPol w Szczytnie wysiłki naukowe i realizowane projekty badawcze w obszarze bezpieczeństwa wewnętrznego wpływają na optymalizację systemu szkolenia i doskonalenia zawodowego policjantów.

    Głównym celem artykułu jest prezentacja wyników badań sondażowych przeprowadzonych wśród absolwentów kursu specjalistycznego dla dowódców operacji policyjnych w Wyższej Szkole Policji w Szczytnie, którzy w przedmiotowym kursie uczestniczyli w latach 2014–2020. Kurs wykorzystuje narzędzie nowoczesnej technologii w postaci symulatora działań Policji w sytuacjach kryzysowych. Istotą badań było zatem dokonanie weryfikacji wpływu treningu symulacyjnego w ramach kursu specjalistycznego dla dowódców akcji i operacji policyjnych na realny, rzeczywisty zakres i sposób realizowanych przez jego absolwentów zadań tj. na dowodzenie rzeczywistymi policyjnymi działaniami na rzecz zapewnienia i utrzymania bezpieczeństwa oraz porządku publicznego podczas imprez masowych, w tym wydarzeń sportowych, zgromadzeń i uroczystości publicznych, a także innych zbiorowych zakłóceń porządku publicznego. Podkreślić należy, że z uwagi na nierzadko znaczny upływu czasu od zakończenia kursu, respondenci formułowali swoje opinie w oparciu o kolejne doświadczenia i analizy rzeczywistych stanów faktycznych, w kontekście wiedzy i umiejętności nabytych w trakcie szkolenia.

    The introduction of a simulator of Police actions in crisis situations to police training of command skills made it necessary to know the ongoing relationship between training on the simulator and the actual actions of the Police. Visualisation of the effects of decisions taken by commanders in a virtual simulation environment, ending in most cases in the escalation of the threat, trigger off analytic mechanisms and awareness of responsibility for the life and health of people and the officers carrying out commands issued by commanders and other persons taking part in the simulation. Simulation training provides the opportunity to observe the ongoing relationship between cells of the command structure adopted by commanders, depicting among others, the sources of errors and threats of destabilisation of commanding process. There are various scenarios that are possible to play including elements such as: police riot, crowd aggression level, and weather conditions. Based on the feedback from simulation training participants, who are mostly those responsible for commanding processes while performing daily duties, it is reasonable to say that the training conducted on the Police simulator in crisis situations allows the commanding skills and abilities to be significantly shaped. What is more, as the simulator is a universal tool, it enables cooperation training to be conducted with non-police entities, the fire brigade, medical emergency, city guard, and crisis management teams.

    Artykuł przedstawia wyniki ewaluacji przeprowadzonej wśród uczestników kursu specjalistycznego dla dowódców operacji policyjnych w Wyższej Szkole Policji w Szczytnie w latach 2014–2019. Przedmiotowy kurs wykorzystuje narzędzie nowoczesnej technologii w postaci symulatora działań w sytuacjach kryzysowych. Wpływa to na udoskonalenie systemu dowodzenia i wzrost wyszkolenia kadry dowódczej polskiej Policji. Poprawia efektywność zarządzania zasobami ludzkimi i materiałowymi podczas operacji ukierunkowanych na utrzymanie bezpieczeństwa i porządku publicznego podczas imprez masowych, zgromadzeń i uroczystości. Ewaluacji poddano zagadnienia takie jak: ocena programowa kursu, zdobyta wiedza i umiejętności praktyczne oraz poziom zadowolenia uczestników. Celem było ustalenie, w jakim zakresie podejmowane wysiłki naukowe oraz realizowane projekty badawcze w obszarze bezpieczeństwa wewnętrznego wpływają na optymalizację systemu szkolenia i doskonalenia zawodowego policjantów w WSPol w Szczytnie.

    Opis:
    The civilization diseases of the 21st century are non-infectious disorders, affecting a large part of modern society. They are associated with the significant development of industry and technology, and hence with environmental pollution and an unhealthy lifestyle. These factors have led to the development of many civilization diseases, which currently include: cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases, diabetes, obesity, malignant tumors, gastrointestinal diseases, mental disorders and allergic diseases. The development of technologies, including modern therapies and new drugs, resulted in increase in life expectancy. This creates a global problem of an aging population with an increasing number of diseases of the old age, i.e. dementias. In addition, sedentary lifestyles and changing diets are the reasons why more and more people develop metabolic diseases, as well as neurological and cognitive disorders characterized by progressive damage to nerve cells and dementia. Currently, problem on a global scale is also the growing resistance to existing antimicrobial drugs. Therefore, the scientists face many challenges related to searching for the causes of these diseases, their diagnosis and treatment. Scientific research conducted at the Department of Biomedical Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Gdańsk is part of this research trend. In this publication, we discuss various research topics with the long-term aim of solving the problems associated with the diseases mentioned above. The following chapters are dedicated to (i) looking for new effective fluorophores with diagnostic and anti-cancer activity; (ii) designing of new compounds with antibacterial and antiviral activity and their synthesis; (iii) investigating the mechanisms of amyloid deposit formation by human cystatin C and possibilities of inhibition of this process; (iv) designing and studies of compounds activating the proteasome with the potential to suppress the development of neurodegenerative diseases; (v) designing peptide fibrils and hydrogels as drug carriers; (vi) searching for peptide inhibitors of immune checkpoint as potential drugs for immunotherapy; (vii) studying the mechanism of action of selected herpesviruses by determining the structure of viral proteins and (viii) studying the composition of natural glycans and glycoconjugates in order to better understand the mechanisms of interaction of bacteria with the environment or with the host.
