Opis:: The main aim of this paper was to produce amorphous ribbons with specified composition with the use of various process parameters and X-ray qualitative and quantitative phase analysis after casting and heat treating. Station for ultra-fast cooling of the molten alloy with high vacuum pumps designed for the production of metallic glasses in the form: of ribbons with the use of Bühler Melt Spinner SC was used. The X-ray qualitative and quantitative phase analysis, microscopic observation, microhardness and thermal properties tests of the investigated ribbons were conducted. Based on experimental data the discussion on the correlation between casting process parameters, phase and quantitative composition and heat treatment was carried out.

Opis:: This paper presents the study of repetitive corrugation process influence on the strengthening of annealed alloy. Based on the results of mechanical properties of deformed sample, it has been found that the microhardness, ultimate tensile strength, yield strength and apparent elastic limit are significantly increased in relation to annealed sample. Examination on transmission electron microscopy confirmed the effect of intensive plastic deformation on structure fragmentation in the nanometric scale. This work confirmed the possibility of using the repetitive corrugation process to increase mechanical properties of CuCr0.6 alloy.

Opis:: Dextran-polycaprolactone nanoparticles were prepared and the influence of catalyst on particle diameter was investigated. Nanoparticles were synthesized by the simple one-pot reaction of spontaneous dextran modification with ɛ-caprolactone. Afterwards, nanoparticles were purified by dialysis, spray-dried and checked for cytotoxicity by the MTT assay. Prepared particles are a promising carrier for anticancer drug due to their biocompatibility and a narrow size distribution.
Otrzymano nanocząstki dekstranowe z użyciem polikaprolaktonu jako czynnika zwijającego oraz zbadano wpływ ilości katalizatora na ich średnicę. Synteza składa się z prostej jednostopniowej reakcji, w czasie której zachodzi polimeryzacja ε-kaprolaktonu na łańcuchu dekstranowym, a następnie spontaniczne zwinięcie łańcucha w cząstkę. Nanocząstki oczyszczono poprzez dializę, suszono rozpyłowo i przebadano pod kątem cytotoksyczności testem MTT. Otrzymane nanocząstki są obiecującym nośnikiem dla leków przeciwnowotworowych ze względu na wąski rozkład średnic oraz biokompatybilność.

Opis:: A new approach to the theory of excess current carrier distribution in the homogeneous base region of the semiconductor multi-junction structure is proposed. Numerical analysis of this structure is performed taking into consideration an assumption that concentrations of excess electrons and holes in the semiconductor are equal (the neutrality principle). To obtain excess carrier distributions in this structure it is necessary to solve continuity equations of electron J _n and hole J _p current densities. A general solution is obtained and numerically calculated distributions of excess carriers and electrical potential for cases interesting from the point of view of their application in injection modulated thermal radiation structures destined for dynamic scene projectors are presented.

Opis:: Ultrasonic elliptical vibration cutting has recently been utilized in industry for finishing of various precision parts such as mirror surface finishing and precision micro machining of dies and molds. However, its application has been limited to high-cost ultra-precision machining, where depth of cut is typically in a range from a few micrometers to several tens of micrometers due to power limitation of the vibration device. To expand its application to low-cost mirror surface finishing with ordinary machining facilities, a high-power elliptical vibration device was developed in this research. The elliptical vibration cutting of hardened die steel was examined by applying the developed high-power elliptical vibration device with single crystalline diamond tools. Pick feed was kept to be 0.02 mm to obtain mirror quality surfaces, while depth of cut was increased up to 0.4 mm to verify performance of the high-power elliptical vibration cutting. By analyzing the experimental results, it was clarified that mirror surface finishing of the hardened die steel can be achieved at the large depth of cut with practically acceptable tool life.

Opis:: Scalability of packet switched cross-connects that utilize all-optical signal processing is a crucial issue that eventually determines the future role of photonic signal processing in optical networks. After reviewing several labeling techniques, we discuss label stacking and label swapping techniques and their benefits for scalable optical packet switched nodes. All-optical devices for implementing the packet switch based on the labeling techniques will be described. Finally, we present a 1×4 all-optical packet switch based on label swapping technique that utilizes a scalable and asynchronous label processor and label rewriter. Error-free operation indicates a potential utilization of the swapping technique in a multihop packet-switched network.

Opis:: Zirconia matrix ZrO2/CNT composite materials reinforced with multiwall carbon nanotubes were fabricated using a spark plasma sintering technique. The effects of the amount of CNTs addition, sintering temperature and sintering pressure on the properties of the resulting ZrO2/CNT composites were examined. 0 to 9 vol. % CNTs were dispersed in zirconia powder, and the resulting mixture was sintered. The electrical conductivity, hardness, flexural strength, and density were measured to characterize the composites. The friction and wear properties of the composites were also tested. The flexural strength and friction coefficient of the composites were improved with up to 6 vol.% of CNT addition and the flexural strength showed a close relationship with the relative density of the composite. The electrical conductivity increased with increasing proportion of the CNTs, but the efficiency was reduced at more than 6 vol.% CNTs.

Opis:: We show that single peridinin-chlorophyll a-protein light-harvesting complexes from dinoflagellate Amphidinium carterae placed near to silver nanoparticles show strongly enhanced fluorescence emission. Single molecule spectroscopy experiments performed at room temperature point toward an enhancement of more than an order of magnitude for optimal conditions. Irrespective of the enhancement, we observe no effect of the metal nanoparticle on the fluorescence emission energy of the complex. This result provides a way to control the optical properties of biomolecules via plasmon excitations in metal nanoparticles.
