Opis:
The genus Mystriosaurus, established by Kaup in 1834, was one of the first thalattosuchian genera to be named. The holotype, an incomplete skull from the lower Toarcian Posidonienschiefer Formation of Altdorf (Bavaria, southern Germany), is poorly known with a convoluted taxonomic history. For the past 60 years, Mystriosaurus has been considered a subjective junior synonym of Steneosaurus. However, our reassessment of the Mystriosaurus laurillardi holotype demonstrates that it is a distinct and valid taxon. Moreover, we find the holotype of “Steneosaurus” brevior, an almost complete skull from the lower Toarcian Whitby Mudstone Formation of Whitby (Yorkshire, UK), to be a subjective junior synonym of M. laurillardi. Mystriosaurus is diagnosed in having: a heavily and extensively ornamented skull; large and numerous neurovascular foramina on the premaxillae, maxillae and dentaries; anteriorly oriented external nares; and four teeth per premaxilla. Our phylogenetic analyses reveal M. laurillardi to be distantly related to Steneosaurus bollensis, supporting our contention that they are different taxa. Interestingly, our analyses hint that Mystriosaurus may be more closely related to the Chinese teleosauroid (previously known as Peipehsuchus) than any European form.

We experimentally demonstrate a new acoustic sensor based on the concept of quantum mechanical scattering fidelity and the Loschmidt echo applied to classical acoustic waves in air. The sensor employs a one-recording-channel time-reversal mirror that exploits spatial reciprocity to sensitively measure the classical analog of the scattering fidelity of an enclosed region. The experiments are carried out in a stairwell using a simple speaker and microphone. The input is a 7.0 kHz signal that is amplitude modulated with a 1 ms long pulse. We examine the sensitivity of the time-reversed reconstructed pulse to phase noise, long term drift, and to typical perturbations caused by the rotation of an object in the scattering environment.

The Urak Lawoi are indigenous fishermen on Thailand’s west coast. The population includes an estimated 400 divers who dive using surface-supplied compressed air. In a cross-sectional survey conducted among the 6 major communities of Urak Lawoi, questionnaire-based interviews were administered to active divers, ex-divers, and families or colleagues of divers who had died in the previous 5 years. Six deaths resulting from diving-related accidents were identified, indicating a diving-related mortality rate of approximately 300 per 100,000 person-years, while in the same 5-year period 11 divers had been disabled owing to diving-related events, indicating a diving-related disabling event rate of approximately 550 per 100,000 person-years. Among 342 active divers interviewed, one third reported having suffered from decompression illness, although based on reported current symptoms over 50% were classified as suffering from recurring non-disabling decompression illness. Physical examination conducted on a subset of 98 active divers revealed the presence of spinal injury (clonus, raised muscle tone, and heightened reflexes) and of joint damage (pain in one or more joint, crepitus, or restricted movement) in 24 and 30% respectively. Improved primary prevention and medical treatment are needed to reduce mortality and morbidity among this population.

Opis:
Using Brillouin light scattering, the properties of magnetic anisotropies in ultrathin epitaxial Co films grown on single-crystal Cu substrates are investigated. All relevant magnetic anisotropy contributions are determined, in situ in an ultrahigh vacuum system for the (001)-oriented films, as well as ex situ for other film orientations, which are covered with a Cu cap layer. For (001)-oriented films we find a large in-plane anisotropy contribution of fourfold symmetry. For this contribution the volume and the surface part cancel to zero at the same thickness as found for the onset of ferromagnetic order. This finding is indicative for a stabilization of ferromagnetic order in Co/Cu(001) by in-plane anisotropy contributions. In (1 1 13)-oriented films, which are composed of (001)-terraces aligned along the [11̅0]-direction and spaced by 6.5 atomic distances, an additional uniaxial in-plane anisotropy contribution is found which is identified as being of magneto-elastic origin. For (110)-oriented films three ranges of thickness dependence of the in-plane and out-of-plane anisotropy contributions are found which correlate in the thin-film regime with the growth properties. (111)-oriented films show a linear dependence of the perpendicular anisotropy on the reciprocal film thickness over the full investigated thickness range of 2 to 20 Å.

We report a comprehensive investigation of native point defects and impurities in GaN, AlN, and AlGaN alloys, with the goal of understanding doping limitations in nitride semiconductors. Unintentional incorporation of impurities (mainly oxygen) explains the tendency of nitride semiconductors to exhibit n-type conductivity. Silicon is the n-type dopant of choice; it remains shallow in AlGaN up to high Al content, while oxygen undergoes a DX transition. Experimental evidence for DX centers will be discussed. In p-type material, Mg doping is hindered by an increase in ionization energy with increasing Al content in AlGaN, and by nitrogen vacancies acting as compensating centers. Complex formation between magnesium and oxygen and between magnesium and nitrogen vacancies will be discussed.

The Canadian health care system is a publicly financed system administered by ten provincial and three territorial governments. The purpose of this article is to provide an overview of the universal health care system in Canada, including its history, the health status of Canadians, health care funding and spending, and health research and data collection. Health care spending in Canada amounts to 11.6% of the country’s gross domestic product and is estimated to have been $200.5 billion Canadian dollars in 2011. Hospitals account for the largest source of health care spending (29%), followed by drugs (16%) and physician spending (14%). Of the total health care spending, 70% is paid for by the public system. Due to the Canadian population being covered by the universal health care system, health data are being collected and can be used to monitor the health care system and inform evidence-based medicine.

The development of advanced spatial-positioning and monitoring systems for medical monitoring and emergency response using RFID & Wi-Fi technologies is a large-scale research project being conducted at the ward W21C of Foothills Hospital, Calgary, Canada by University of Calgary. The scope of this project is to support real-time location tracking of medical equipments and personnel in hospital settings. In this context, we developed an innovative, interactive, decision-support medical system for tracking of personnel and high value medical equipments. The goal behind development of such a system is to provide a convenient, easy to use interface using existing technologies that allows to visualize and analyse clinical pathways and health care provider’s workflow pattern as well as to perform time motion studies and more advanced statistical pattern analysis. While achieving this goal, we aim to also fill the existing void of documentation and present to scientific community functional issues encountered along with their importance in success.

Fruit quality attributes are influenced by environmental, agronomic and genetic factors; both cultivars and growing conditions can vary substantially between UK production and imported fruit. This study aimed to record and dissect the most relevant fruit quality traits for berries imported into the UK in the winter months. Blackberry, blueberry, raspberry and strawberry fruit were imported from 11 countries into a Kent-based packhouse (UK) or purchased from major retailers between December 2018 and March 2019. Multiple fruit quality components were assessed for relative contribution towards a high “overall assessment” fruit quality score. It was found that strawberry and blackberry overall scores were affected by sweetness perception, whereas blueberry and raspberry organoleptics are more complex, with overall scores influenced by flavor perception. Multiple raspberry and strawberry fruit quality traits were found to be associated with genotypic differences, indicating a promising potential for genetic improvement through breeding. By contrast, the study findings suggest that there is less potential for genetic improvement in blueberry, and that the environment may have a large effect on blueberry fruit quality traits.

Opis:
The extent to which self-report activity measured by the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) can substitute performance-based functional capacity measured by the Six-Minute Walk Test (6MWT) remains inconclusive. This study assessed Physical Activity (PA) and Functional Exercise Capacity (FEC); and also determined the relationship between PA and FEC in apparently healthy young adults. A total of 342 (145 males and 197 females) undergraduates of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ile, Nigeria participated in the study. The IPAQ was used to assess PA, while FEC was assessed using the 6MWT, and expressed in terms of the Six-Minute Walk Distance (6MWD), Six-Minute Walk Work (6MWW), Maximum Oxygen Uptake (VO2max) and Metabolic Equivalent (METS). Anthropometric and cardiovascular parameters were measured following standardized procedures. Data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The alpha level was set at 0.05. The mean age of the participants was 22.0±2.87 years. The mean IPAQ score of all participants was 1471.4±1086.93. The percentage for low, moderate and high PA was 19% (65), 41.2% (141) and 39.8% (136), respectively. The mean 6MWD, 6MWW, VO2max and METS were 639.47 ±66.6 m, 41805.0 ±8520.6 kg·m, 28.9 ±1.92 mlO2k-1min-1, 4.05 ±0.32 mL/kg, respectively. There were signifi cant positive correlations between PA and each of the 6MWD (r=0.268; p=0.001), 6MWW (r=0.219; p=0.001), VO2max (r=0.268; p=0.001), METS (r=0.268; p=0.001). Measures of exercise capacity were not signifi cantly correlated with the anthropometric variables (p>0.05). Self-report of physical activity in healthy young adults does not adequately substitute the results of the Six-Minute Walk Test. Mbada Ch.E., Osifeso T.A., Johnson O.E., Okonji A.M., Odeyemi E.A. Self-reported physical activity versus physical function capacity: alternatives for energy expenditure estimation. Med Rehabil 2016; 20(4): 4-12. DOI: 10.5604/01.3001.0009.5479 null
Wstęp: Stopień, w jakim deklarowana aktywność fizyczna oceniania za pomocą Międzynarodowego Kwestionariusza Aktywności Fizycznej (IPAQ) może zastąpić opartą o wyniki wydolność funkcjonalną mierzoną testem 6-minutowego chodu (6MWT) pozostaje niejednoznaczny. W badaniu tym oceniano aktywność fizyczną (AF) i funkcjonalną wydolność wysiłkową (FEC); a także określono zależność pomiędzy PA i FEC u pozornie zdrowych, młodych dorosłych. Materiał i metody: Badaniem objęto 342 studentów (145 mężczyzn i 197 kobiet) z Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ile, Nigeria. IPAQ został wykorzystany do oceny AF, podczas gdy FEC oceniano za pomocą 6MWT i wyrażono w sześciominutowym dystansie chodu (6MWD), pracy wykonanej podczas sześciominutowego chodu (6MWW), maksymalnym minutowym poborze tlenu (VO2max) i równoważniku metabolicznym (MET). Parametry antropometryczne i układu krążenia były mierzone zgodnie ze standardowymi procedurami. Dane analizowano przy użyciu wnioskowania statystycznego i opisowego. Poziom alfa został ustalony na poziomie 0,05. Wyniki: Średni wiek uczestników wyniósł 22,0 ±2,87 lat. Średni wynik IPAQ wszystkich uczestników to 1471,4 ±1086,93. Procent dla niskiego, średniego i wysokiego poziomu AF to odpowiednio 19% (65), 41,2% (141) i 39,8% (136). Średni 6MWD, 6MWW, VO2max i METS wyniosły odpowiednio 639.47 ±66,6 m, 41805.0±8520,6 kg·m, 28,9±1,92 mlO2k-1min-1, 4,05±0,32 ml/kg. Istnieją znaczące dodatnie korelacje pomiędzy PA i każdym z 6MWD (r=0,268, p=0,001), 6MWW (r=0,219, p=0,001), VO2max (r=0,268, p=0,001), METS (r=0,268; p=0,001).

The Fano resonance photoemission studies of Gd/(Pb, Gd)Te layers using synchrotron radiation were carried out and the electronic structure parameters like binding energies of $Gd^{3+}$ 4f and 5p shells, resonance and antiresonance energies for $Gd^{3+}$ were determined. The presence of $Eu^{3+}$ ions was observed in the (Pb, Eu)Te and (Eu, Gd)Te layers grown by MBE technique. The comparison of data for (Pb, Gd)Te compound with corresponding data for (Eu, Gd)Te and (Pb, Eu)Te layers indicates that we are not able to distinct the $Eu^{3+}4f$ and $Gd^{3+}4f$ electrons contribution to the valence band photoemission spectra because of small content od Gd and similar binding energy values. The key parameters allowing to prove exactly the presence of either $Eu^{3+}$ or $Gd^{3+}$ are the resonance and antiresonance energies which are significantly different for these ions and equal to 143 eV/137 eV and 150 eV/142 eV, respectively.

The photoemission spectra are acquired for the photon energy range of 40-60 eV, corresponding to the Mn 3p → 3d resonances. The spectral features related to Mn 3d states are revealed in the emission from the valence band. The Mn 3d states contribution manifests itself in the whole valence band with a maximum at the binding energy of 3.8 eV.

Opis:
Understanding the initial steps during ultrafast molecular reactions involving large spin state changes is a vital goal in structural dynamics research. These involve knowledge of the geometric structure of the system. Ultrafast X-ray absorption spectroscopy with 50-100 picosecond time resolution establishes the geometric structure of the short-lived (τ = 0.6 ns) high spin state. Here we focus on time-resolved X-ray absorption studies with 160-200 fs temporal resolution to monitor the structural evolution in this spin-conversion process.

Opis:
Having a universal tool for assessing pain in children is hamstrung by cultural sensitivity. This study aimed to develop and validate a culturally-friendly pain assessment tool (i.e. Crying Faces Pain Scale (CFPS)) among Nigerian Children. This study employed criterion-standard design. The study was in three phases, namely: (1) development of CFPS, (2) cross-validity and (3) validation of the CFPS. 70 children (39 (55.7%) males and 31 (44.3%) females) within the age range of 4-13 years who had post-surgical pain, orthopaedic pain, stomach pain or headache were involved in the validation phase. Psychometric properties and preferences for the CFPS compared with the Wong-Baker FACES Pain Rating Scale (FACES) were examined. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. Alpha level was set at p<0.05. The median score of the CFPS was 4.60 compared to FACES median score of 4.49. There was weak correlation between FACES and CFPS (r=0.325; p=0.006). Preference score as a culturally friendly tool for CFPS and FACES was 6.07±1.23 and 3.67±1.09 respectively, based on a modified 0-10 numerical pain scale. Conclusions: The crying faces pain scale has fair psychometric properties for assessing pain in children. However, CFPS was preferred to FACES as a culturally friendly tool for assessing pain among Nigerian children. Implications: The CFPS is more culturally friendly and so might be better suited as a pain scale in Africa. However, due to its fair psychometric properties, further studies may be needed to improve upon this scale.
Zbadano właściwości psychometryczne i preferencje dla CFPS, w porównaniu z Graficzną Skalą Oceny Bólu Wonga-Bakera (FACES, Wong-Baker Faces Pain Rating Scale). Do analizy danych wykorzystano statystyki opisowe i inferencyjne. Poziom Alpha ustawiono na p<0.05. Wyniki: Średni wynik dla CFPS wyniósł 4,60, w porównaniu do średniego wyniku FACES wynoszącego 4,49. Wystąpiła słaba korelacja pomiędzy FACES a CFPS (r=0,325; p=0,.006).
