The paper examines the spatial overlap between the disenfranchisement of African Americans and the performance of William Shakespeare’s plays in the United States. In America, William Shakespeare seems to function as a prelapsarian poet, one who wrote before the institutionalization of colonial slavery, and he is therefore a poet able to symbolically function as a ‘public good’ that trumps America’s past associations with slavery. Instead, the modern American performance of Shakespeare emphasizes an idealized strain of human nature: especially when Americans perform Shakespeare outdoors, we tend to imagine ourselves in a primeval woodland, a setting without a history. Therefore, his plays are often performed without controversy—and (bizarrely) on or near sites specifically tied to the enslavement or disenfranchisement of people with African ancestry. New York City’s popular outdoor Shakespeare theater, the Delacorte, is situated just south of the site of Seneca Village, an African American community displaced for the construction of Central Park; Alabama Shakespeare Festival takes place on a former plantation; the American Shakespeare Center in Staunton, Virginia makes frequent use of a hotel dedicated to a Confederate general; the University of Texas’ Shakespeare at Winedale festival is performed in a barn built with supports carved by slave labor; the Oregon Shakespeare Festival takes place within a state unique for its founding laws dedicated to white supremacy. A historiographical examination of the Texas site reveals how the process of erasure can occur within a ‘progressive’ context, while a survey of Shakespearean performance sites in New York, Alabama, Virginia, and Oregon shows the strength of the unexpected connection between the performance of Shakespeare in America and the subjugation of Black persons, and it raises questions about the unique and utopian assumptions of Shakespearean performance in the United States.

Opis:
Artificial reproductive technologies such as sperm and egg donation, in vitro fertilization, and surrogate motherhood all in principle separate the family from its biological foundation. These technologies enable and promote contemporary social trends that disconnect the family from its biological basis and claim that a family is constituted by an act of will, irrespective of biology. The article discusses three recent documentary films made by American Center for Bioethics and Culture, which consist of interviews with children born from sperm donation and women involved in egg donation and surrogate motherhood, to identify how the biological understanding of parenthood is undermined by these technologies and the ethical and anthropological consequences that follow. The author concludes that these technologies are also in principle available to single persons and to homosexuals to enable them to "have" children. He warns that potential and real deleterious effects of such behavior will be satisfying adults' whims by children.
Sztuczne technologie reprodukcyjne, np. dostarczanie spermy czy jajeczka, zapłodnienie in vitro i zastępcze macierzyństwo, oddalają rodzinę od jej biologicznych zadań. Techniki te umożliwiają i promują współczesne trendy społeczne, które prowadzą do oddzielenia rodziny od jej biologicznych podstaw. W związku z tym może wydawać się, że rodzina powstaje na mocy aktu woli dojrzałego człowieka, nieuwzględniającego biologii. Niniejszy artykuł rozważa trzy najnowsze filmy dokumentalne wykonane przez amerykańskie Centrum Bioetyki i Kultury, na które składają się wywiady z dziećmi zrodzonymi z ofiarowanej spermy oraz z kobietami, które dostarczały jaja i podjęły zastępcze macierzyństwo. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie, w jakim stopniu biologiczne po- jęcie rodzicielstwa jest podważane przez te technologie, a także zaprezentowanie ich etycznych oraz antropologicznych konsekwencji. Autor kończy swój wywód, zaznaczając, że wspomniane technologie umożliwiają także osobom wolnym i homoseksualistom „posiadanie" dzieci oraz ostrzegając, że potencjalnymi i rzeczywistymi zgubnymi skutkami takich zachowań będzie spełnianie przez dzieci zachcianek dorosłych.

Opis:
Democratic movements and networks across borders are sharing programs and strategies that are helping the development of a set of ‘universals’: values and beliefs that define what can be called a democratic education. Such universals are contested, but work to help classrooms emerge that link schools with communities and build contextual relationships with students, families and members of the  broader society. Key to these democratic classrooms are tools and strategies of communication, deliberation and decision-making that provide for the sharing of multiple perspectives and work towards the construction of new knowledge. A recent study found that Polish students gained from their participation in such a program. Such studies help emphasize the roles schools and teachers can play in the development of democratic citizens.

In the context of a long-term project of collecting and cataloguing the alliterating word-pairs in the earliest stages of German, i.e. Old and Middle High German, the role of word-pairs of legal origin and-/-or context has been repeatedly addressed. Alliteration is defined according to the Germanic tradition of alliterating only stressed syllables; word-pairs as terms joined by conjunctions with the same morpho-syntactic elements. Here we study the use of the rhetoric device in “Reinhard Fuchs,” a text that survives in both Early Middle High and Middle High German versions. The word-pairs are discussed in the context of their appearance in the transmission of the text, within the context of the story, then assessed with regard to the recorded occurrences of the pairings in earlier and / or near contemporary works. This collection suggests hints of the kind of education to which the author was exposed, and characterizes the work as using traditional rhetoric elements within its specific genre. It further supplements the ongoing survey of the alliterating word-pair within the history of recorded German.

W pracy omówiono jeden z problemów pojawiających się przy konstruowaniu egzoszkieletu. Omówiono możliwość zastosowania konstrukcji lekkich. Dokładniej skupiono się na strukturze opartej na budowie kości, strukturze typu sandwicz z rdzeniem typu pianoaluminium oraz na strukturze typu plaster miodu. Przedstawiono przeprowadzone już badania numeryczne oraz planowane. Na podstawie otrzymanych wyników zaproponowano wprowadzenie wzmocnień każdej ze struktur.
This paper discusses one of the problems emerging in the design of the exoskeleton. Discussed the possibility of lightweight construction. More specifically focuses on the structure based on the bone structure, a sandwich-type structure with a core foam aluminum and type honeycomb structure. The paper presents numerical studies have been carried out and planned. On the basis of the results proposed the introduction of reinforcements for each property.

Opis:
An harmonic domain model is developed for open-loop controlled voltage source inverters, which provides the steady-state solution for integer multiples of the fundamental frequency. The convolution of the switching function spectrum with the converter currents and voltages is used to describe the coupling of the AC side and the DC side. The modeling is based on a single phase leg and is extended to a single-phase and a three-phase voltage source inverter, which results in a non-linear algebraic equation system. For open-loop control the switching function is independent of the converter currents and voltages and the model is simplified to a linear equation system. This straightforward and fast model is verified by time domain simulations and experimental results. The modeling can be adapted to systems of coupled converters, which is presented for a back-to-back converter system showing the harmonic interaction of the connected subsystems.
Opracowano model w domenie częstotliwości dla falowników napięcia sterowanych w otwartej pętli, który zapewnia rozwiązanie w stanie ustalonym dla całkowitych wielokrotności częstotliwości podstawowej. Splot spektrum funkcyjnego przełączania z prądami i napięciami przemiennika służy do opisania sprzężenia strony prądu przemiennego i prądu stałego. Modelowanie opiera się na pojedynczej fazie i jest rozszerzone na falownik jednofazowy i trójfazowy, co skutkuje nieliniowym układem równań algebraicznych. W przypadku sterowania w otwartej pętli funkcja przełączania jest niezależna od prądów i napięć przekształtnika, a model jest uproszczony do układu równań liniowych. Ten prosty i szybki model jest weryfikowany przez symulacje w dziedzinie czasu i wyniki eksperymentalne. Modelowanie może być dostosowane do systemów przekształtników sprzężonych, które przedstawiono dla systemu konwertera równoległego pokazującego harmoniczne oddziaływanie połączonych podsystemów.

The goal of education is to prepare individuals for the new world of global connections, competition and the labor market by means of an educational process that works to get students ready for activity, responsibility and deliberation. Within these issues schools and teachers are the focus of much concern. Many reform efforts work to  remove autonomy from the school. “Deskilling,” viewing school improvement through the lens of packaged programs that work to script teachers, prescribe what they should do in their context, and pull more and more control to central authorities, is not a new phenomenon. Recently, however, teachers have been recognized as necessary leaders in school reform.How might those based in universities proceed to work and change the situation we find in schools? Rather than one-shot, one-way school reform efforts and programs which are known to have little impact compared to long-term, collegial work, our work with schools should be based on building professional relationships. Democratic school  reform is possible. By working (as it was mentioned) to link schools, universities and communities in engaged, reciprocal, networks of support we can strengthen the outcomes and the success of school reform in ways that lift up students, teachers, communities, universities and democratic societies themselves.

A Passive Coherent Location (PCL) Radar system, consisting of spatially distributed transmitters and receivers is currently being integrated at the University of Cape Town (UCT). The paper investigates the feasibility of real-time processing of PCL system signals using Graphic Processing Units (GPUs), specifically a study of two distinct clutter cancellation algorithms: ECA (Extensive Cancellation Algorithm) and NLMS (Normalised Least Mean Square). Clutter cancellation is the most computationally demanding part of PCL signal processing. This investigation compares the processing speed-up achieved by GPU over CPU implementations, with very encouraging results.

Extant odonates (damsel- and dragonflies) represent a small subset of the historical biodiversity of this group. Among their successive stem-groups, the Triadotypomorpha are poorly documented. Herein we describe a new species Reisia rieki from the Molteno Formation (South Africa, Upper Triassic) belonging to this taxon. The comparatively large sample allows a relatively complete description of the wing venation in Triadotypomorpha. We noticed the occurrence of a strongly oblique crossvein located between RA and RP1, a condition documented in some other Pandiscoidalia and which might be of phylogenetic importance. The new species probably inhabited open landscapes and foraged above large water bodies. The documentation of a Gondwanian Triadotypomorpha demonstrates that the group had a worldwide distribution by the Triassic.

Karol Darwin pracował nad swoją teorią o pochodzeniu gatunków od roku 1837 i choć był bliski jej opublikowania już w 1844 roku, zdecydował się odłożyć publikację w celu jej uzupełnienia: chciał wyjaśnić adaptację pąkli i zarysować klasyfikację z punktu widzenia procesów ewolucji. W tym celu rozpoczął zbieranie i interpretowanie pąkli (wąsonogów), zarówno istniejących, jak i skamieniałych. Pomiędzy rokiem 1851 a 1855 Darwin opublikował cztery autorytatywne tomy na temat tych osiadłych skorupiaków, wyjątkowo pięknie ilustrowane, a także zabrał się za opracowanie pełnej monografii, mimo iż wąsonogi momentami wprawiały go w zakłopotanie i frustrację. W 1859 roku, po wydaniu dzieła O pochodzeniu gatunków, w swoich zapiskach odnotował, że to te „nieszczęsne” pąkle kazały mu zastanowić się nad genezą i powiązaniami gatunków na bazie homologii i embriologii. Joseph de Bosquet, aptekarz z Maastricht, który zajmował się zbieraniem i badaniem skamieniałości z epoki późnejkredy z pobliskiego wzgórza Sint-Pietersberg, prowadził korespondencję z Darwinem na temat wąsonogów w okresie pomiędzy grudniem 1852 a listopadem 1856 roku, co zaowocowało wymianą opracowań, rękopisów, rycin i okazów między oboma badaczami. W czasie, gdy Darwin próbował ostatecznie sformułować swoją teorię w odniesieniu do pąkli, z całą pewnością cieszył się wsparciem i zrozumieniem płynącym z Maastricht.
Чарльз Дарвин работал над своей теорией о происхождении видов с 1837 г., и хотя был близок к ее публикации еще в 1844 г., решил это отложить на некоторое время, пытаясь понять процессы адаптации балянусов (усоногих раков) и составить их классификацию с точки зрения эволюции. С этой целью он начал собирать и описывать балянусов, как современных, так и ископаемых. В 1851–1855 гг. Дарвин опубликовал четыре авторитетных прекрасно иллюстрированных тома об этих оседлых ракообразных, и приступил к созданию заключительной монографии, несмотря на то, что иногда непонимание этих усоногих приводило его в настоящее бешенство. В 1859 г., после публикации работы О происхождении видов, он отметил в своих заметках, что именно эти «несчастные» балянусы заставили его задуматься о генезисе и связях видов на основе гомологии и эмбриологии. Жозеф де Боскет, фармацевт из Маастрихта, который изучал ископаемые позднего мела, собирая их в обнажениях близлежащего холма Синт-Питерсберг (Sint-Pietersberg), с декабря 1852 по ноябрь 1856 года переписывался с Дарвином на тему усоногих, обмениваясь монографиями, рукописями, гравюрами с рисунками образцов и самими образцами. Дарвин был глубоко признателен за поддержку и понимание, которые он получал из Маастрихта, когда пытался окончательно определиться с пониманием своих балянусов.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a leading cause of death worldwide. Only in 2012 it accounted for 17.5 million deaths. Although it affects both sexes, every year more women die due to CVD, more than due to all cancers, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS and malaria combined. The risk factors, symptoms and course of CVD in women and men often differ, which makes early proper diagnosis and treatment more difficult. Despite being a major threat for women, the level of awareness and knowledge on the gender-specific picture of CVD, both among females and within the medical environment, remains staggeringly low. Introducing a new gender-tailored health education and prevention model, adjusted to the medical, socio-cultural, technological expectations and needs of contemporary women, to their modern lifestyle and pace of life, could constitute an attractive and more effective alternative to initiatives undertaken so far targeting the general population. E- and m-health tools seem to have a promising potential in educating and supporting contemporary women in their everyday health management. Applying Internet-based solutions together with a gender-oriented approach could increase the level of knowledge and CVD awareness among women, lead to improvement of their heart health and contribute to a reduction in the medical-social-economic burden of CVD in women.
Choroby sercowo-naczyniowe (ChSN) stanowią najczęstszą przyczynę zgonów na świecie. Tylko w roku 2012 z powodu ChSN zmarło 17,5 miliona osób. Mimo że problem ten dotyczy przedstawicieli obu płci, każdego roku więcej kobiet umiera z powodu chorób układu krążenia. Śmiertelność z powodu ChSN w tej grupie jest wyższa niż z powodu nowotworów, gruźlicy, HIV/AIDS i malarii łącznie. Symptomatyka i przebieg ChSN u mężczyzn i kobiet są często odmienne, w przypadku kobiet objawy są często mniej charakterystyczne i w związku z tym trudniejsze do wczesnego rozpoznania i leczenia. Poziom wiedzy i świadomości na temat specyfiki ChSN u kobiet w Polsce jest wciąż ograniczony i często trudno dostępny – zwłaszcza wśród samych zainteresowanych. Wprowadzenie nowego modelu edukacji i prewencji, skierowanego wyłącznie do kobiet, skrojonego do ich potrzeb: biologicznych, medycznych, technologicznych, estetycznych, uwzględniającego społeczno-kulturowe uwarunkowania i oczekiwania może stanowić wartościową i bardziej skuteczną strategię prewencji ChSN w tej populacji. Ponadto wykorzystanie w tym modelu nowych technologii, w tym narzędzi e- oraz m-zdrowia, bardziej dopasowanych do mobilnego stylu i tempa życia współczesnej kobiety, w profilaktyce ChSN mogłoby przyczynić się do zwiększenia wiedzy i świadomości na temat kobiecego profilu ChSN, poprawy sytuacji zdrowotnej kobiet w Polsce, a tym samym do redukcji medyczno-ekonomicznego i społecznego ciężaru ChSN w tej populacji.

Introduction This study was undertaken to determine the mean peak filter resistance to airflow (R filter) encountered by subjects while wearing prototype filtering facepiece respirators (PRs) with low Rfilter during nasal and oral breathing at sedentary and low-moderate work rates. Material and methods In-line pressure transducer measurements of mean R filter across PRs with nominal R filter of 29.4 Pa, 58.8 Pa and 88.2 Pa (measured at 85 l/min constant airflow) were obtained during nasal and oral breathing at sedentary and low-moderate work rates for 10 subjects. Results The mean R filter for the 29.4 PR was significantly lower than the other 2 PRs (p < 0.000), but there were no significant differences in mean R filter between the PRs with 58.8 and 88.2 Pa filter resistance (p > 0.05). The mean R filter was greater for oral versus nasal breathing and for exercise compared to sedentary activity (p < 0.001). Conclusions Mean oral and nasal R filter for all 3 PRs was at, or below, the minimal threshold level for detection of inspiratory resistance (the 58.8–74.5 Pa/l×s⁻¹), which may account for the previously-reported lack of significant subjective or physiological differences when wearing PRs with these low R filter. Lowering filtering facepiece respirator R filter below 88.2 Pa (measured at 85 l/min constant airflow) may not result in additional subjective or physiological benefit to the wearer.

Isolated bones of three taxa of marine reptiles (Mosasaurus hoffmannii Mantell, Plioplatecarpus marshi Dollo and Allopleuron hofmanni (Gray)) from various levels within the Maastricht Formation (upper Maastrichtian) at the former ENCI-Heidelberg Cement Group quarry (Maastricht, the Netherlands) exhibit bioerosional traces and encrustation. Episkeletozoans include dimyid, ostreid and monopleurid bivalves, at least three species of cheilostome and cyclostome bryozoans and two adnate calcareous foraminifera. The bones show biting traces (Gnathichnus pentax Bromley, Linichnus cf. serratus Jacobsen & Bromley and Machichnus isp.), as well as borings. The latter may be referred to Karethraichnus lakkos Zonneveld, Bartels, Gunnell & McHugh, which is here considered to be a junior synonym of Gastrochaenolites isp.

W artykule przedstawiono metodykę pomiarową emisji zaburzeń promieniowanych i przewodzonych w pokładowej sieci zasilającej niskiego napięcia taboru kolejowego na przykładzie obecnie obowiązujących wymagań normatywnych norm serii PN-EN 50121-x-x. Przedstawiono szczegółowo metodykę pomiarową, dopuszczalne po-ziomy emisji zaburzeń promieniowanych na postoju i w trakcie jazdy pojazdu oraz emisji zaburzeń przewodzonych w pokładowej sieci zasilającej niskiego napięcia. Na koniec dokonano porównania obowiązujących wymagań normatywnych w tym zakresie z nowymi edycjami norm kolejowych, które mają zostać wprowadzone niebawem, ze względu na dość stare wydania obecnych dokumentów normalizacyjnych, w oparciu które należy badać tabor kolejowym pod kątem EMC celem spełnienia wymagań normatywnych.
The paper presents the methodology of measurement radiation and conducting disturbance emission in onboard rolling stock power low voltage network in reference to current obligatory normative standard requirements PN-EN 50121-x-x. The article presents in detail the methodology of measurement, methodology of permissible levels of radiation emission disturbance during stand and during vehicle ride and the levels of conducted disturbance emission in on-board low voltage power network. In conclusion paper presents com-parison of obligatory, normative standard requirements in this range and along with new edition of rail standards, which will be deploy soon, due to the old editions of current standards documents based on rolling stock should be tested in terms of EMC in order to fulfill normative requirements.

In this paper the method of adaptation the existing 3D geometry of human's rib cage to FEM system ANSYS 10.0 was presented. It was created for visualization objectives. There was shown the way of model’s transformation into computational 3D geometry. Finally strength calculations were perform for verification Cavanough's test which was used in crash test of cars.

In this paper presents the problem of electromagnetic compatibility tests and systems with electrical and electronic equipment installed in the railway environment. The paper presents the test methods immunity to the type of exposure SURGE, BURST, ESD, voltage dips, short interruptions and voltage variations AC and DC, resistance to magnetic field pulse. Describes the test methods related to the issue conducted and radiated disturbances. Presented research positions and measuring apparatus used in such studies. Electromagnetic compatibility issues presented in the railway environment proves to multithreading electromagnetic compatibility.
W artykule przedstawiono problematykę badań kompatybilności elektromagnetycznej systemów i urządzeń elektrycznych oraz elektronicznych instalowanych w środowisku kolejowym. Opisano metody badawcze w zakresie odporności na narażenia typu SURGE, BURST, ESD, zapady napięcia, krótkie przerwy i zmiany napięcia zasilania AC i DC, odporności na impulsowe pole magnetyczne. Scharakteryzowano metody badawcze związane z emisją zaburzeń przewodzonych oraz promieniowanych. Opisano stanowiska badawcze oraz aparaturę pomiarową wykorzystywaną w tego typu badaniach. Przedstawiona problematyka kompatybilności elektromagnetycznej w środowisku kolejowym dowodzi wielowątkowości zagadnienia kompatybilności elektromagnetycznej.

W artykule opisano problematykę oceny stanu środowiska elektromagnetycznego na terenie kolejowym. Jako przykład oceny przedstawiono badania wykonane na terenie hali lokomotywowni Intercity Warszawa Olszynka Grochowska. Ocenę stanu środowiska elektromagnetycznego przeprowadzono w odniesieniu do obecnie obowiązujących poziomów dopuszczalnych zaburzeń radioelektrycznych, zawartych w dokumentach normatywnych. Opisano metodę pomiarów mającą na celu ocenę stanu środowiska elektro-magnetycznego in situ. Podstawą oceny emisji zaburzeń postronnych (tła) jest wartość natężenia pola elektromagnetycznego zaburzeń radioelektrycznych wokół ruchomych obiektów kolejowych znajdujących się na miejscu pomiarowym. Analiza pomiarów wykazała brak zaburzeń postronnych, stanowiących zagrożenie dla prawidłowej pracy urządzeń elektronicznych i elektronicznych.
The paper presents problems of evaluation of the electromagnetic environment in railway. As an example, the assessment presents a study made on the site locomotive hall Intercity depot Olszynka Grochowska Warsaw. The evaluation of the electromagnetic environment has been carried out in relation to the current acceptable levels contained in the normative documents. describes a method of measurement to assess the electromagnetic environment in situ. Basis for evaluation emissions of outsiders disorders (background) is the value of the field strength of radio disturbance characteristics of moving objects around the rail location on-site measurement. The analysis of the measurements showed no outsiders disorders which causes the area in which the test was conducted there are no outsiders threat from electromagnetic disturbances of dangerous normal functioning of electronic devices and electronic equipment.

Opis:
The article describes the concept of measurement of the mechanical strength of trabecular bone dissected from human femoral head. When the studies are performed based on the human trabecular bone, there is a risk that correlation can be not achieved due to high discrepancy in the distribution of the bone density and mechanical properties. The compressive tests and X-ray microcomputed tomography with associated density phantom were used to deliver quantitative data. There is a conclusion that the selection of the region in the femoral head has to be performed very carefully. The region where cylinder is dissected can influence the results and produce fake data, which could not be correlated in the density of bone.

Opis:
W pracy przedstawiono sposób zamodelowania stawu biodrowego człowieka odpowiadający stanowi przed operacją kapoplastyki (fizjologicznie prawidłowemu) oraz stanowi po operacji. W obu modelach założono takie same warunki brzegowe. Następnie przeprowadzono analizę numeryczną oraz porównano wyniki w celu określenia, które miejsca modeli są najbardziej narażone na przeciążenia podczas fizjologicznego obciążenia stawu biodrowego.
In this work two states of human hip joint were modelled refers to: state physiologically correct and after resurfacing operation. These same boundary conditions were assigned to both models and the FEM analysis was conducted. The obtained results were compared and finally the most dangerous and overloading areas were defined for physiological loading of hip joint.

W ciągu ostatniej dekady nastąpił gwałtowny rozwój inżynierii biomateriałów, inspirowany rosnącym zapotrzebowaniem na materiały zastępujące chory bądź uszkodzony organ oraz stymulujące regenerację tkanek. Tematyka naszych badań, z pogranicza chemii oraz inżynierii materiałowej, dotyczy funkcjonalnych materiałów kompozytowych, należących do III generacji biomateriałów - materiałów bionicznych, które mogą być stosowane jako protezy układu kostnego człowieka. Naszych celem było opracowanie optymalnej metody funkcjonalizowania organiczno-nieorganicznych biomimetycznych materiałów kompozytowych, wcześniej otrzymanych i scharakteryzowanych w naszym zespole. [1] Materiały kompozytowe otrzymano techniką zol-żel, która zapewnia równomierną dystrybucję wprowadzonych substancji w matrycy, a następnie formowano w trójwymiarowe rusztowania (skafoldy, ang. scaffolds) techniką odlewania połączonego z wymywaniem cząstek, z użyciem cukru i węglanu amonu, jako porogenu i czynnika modyfikującego powierzchnię. [1] Trójwymiarowe skafoldy (RYS.1a i b) posiadają morfologię analogiczną do kości gąbczastej – system połączonych, otwartych porów o wielkości 150–300 μm oraz chropowatość w zakresie 0.2–7 μm - cechy te stwarzają możliwość adhezji i proliferacji komórek oraz stwarzają możliwość funkcjonalizowania. Wprowadzanie do matrycy czynników funkcjonalizujących, głównie cząsteczek organicznych, ma na celu wzbogacanie lub zmianę charakteru wyjściowego materiału np. zmianę rozpuszczalności materiału, lub efektywniejsze wiązanie czynników wzrostu czy leków. Najbardziej ciekawe z punktu widzenia medycyny regeneracyjnej są badania nad wprowadzaniem substancji farmakologicznie czynnych do matrycy kompozytowej, co prowadzi do otrzymywania układów o kontrolowanym dostarczaniu leków do miejsca przeznaczenia (DDS–ang. drug delivery system), a trójwymiarowe biomateriały układu kostnego wydają się być doskonałym nośnikiem dla cząsteczek leków. Biokompozyty zostały otrzymane techniką zol-żel z wykorzystaniem komponentów organicznych: poli(metakrylanu 2-hydroksyetylu) (HEMA) i etenylotrietoksysilanu (TEVS). Substraty zostały wybrane ze względu na obecność ugrupowań winylowych, które oprócz polimeryzacji z utworzeniem wiązań C-C, mogą tworzyć połączenia typu cross-linking –(-O-CH2-Si-O-)n, odpowiedzialne są za powstawanie mezoporowatej matrycy kompozytowej. Z kolei, obecność grup alkoksylowych w związku krzemu umożliwia hydrolizę i polikondensację z utworzeniem sieci połączeń –Si-O-Si– oraz grup silanolowych ≡Si-OH. Obecność tych ugrupowań inicjuje wymianę jonów pomiędzy płynem biologicznym a materiałem, co także umożliwi krystalizację związków bogatych w wapń i fosfor na amorficznej powierzchni kompozytu (głównie HAp) (RYS.2). Biorusztowania materiałów kompozytowych zostały także poddane procesowi syntetycznego pokrywania hydroksyapatytem (HAp), reakcja typu „one-pot” przeprowadzona była w nieskomplikowany i efektywny sposób. [4] Obrazy SEM (RYS.3) przedstawiają materiał równomiernie pokryty kryształami o kształcie przypominającym kwiaty („flower like shape”) - określenie to odnosi się do syntetycznego hydroksyapatytu. [3] Obecność grup ≡Si-OH na powierzchni badanych materiałów jest niezbędna dla procesu funkcjonalizowania, ponieważ grupy te oddziałują z cząsteczkami organicznymi, posiadającymi takie grupy funkcyjne jak aminowa czy hydroksylowa (R), tworząc wiązania wodorowe lub słabe oddziaływania (typu π-stacking). Matryca kompozytowa funkcjonalizowana była techniką współkondensacji („one-pot”) oraz sillilowania (RYS.4) z użyciem 3-aminopropylotrimetoksysilanu (APTMS) w atmosferze inertnej. Następnie wprowadzano substancje farmakologicznie czynne należące do grupy Niesteroidowych Leków Przeciwzapalnych (NLPZów) tj. ibuprofen i meloksykam (RYS.5). Wybór tych leków podyktowany był faktem występowania stanów zapalnych w miejscach implementowania protez. Otrzymane skafoldy kompozytowe scharakteryzowane zostały za pomocą rentgenowskiej dyfraktometrii proszkowej (PXRD), Spektroskopii w Podczerwieni (FT-IR), Spektroskopii UV-VIS, Skaningowej Mikroskopii Elektronowej (SEM-EDS) oraz Transmisyjnej Mikroskopii Elektronowej (TEM-EDS).
Over the last decade there has been a rapid development of bio-engineering, inspired by the growing demand for materials to replace damaged parts of the body and stimulate tissue regeneration. Our research, on the border of chemistry and materials science, concerns the development of functional composite materials, belonging to the third generation of biomaterials - bionic materials, that can be used as an artificial human bone. Our research was focused on development an optimal, novel method of functionalization biomimetic organic-inorganic composite materials, previously obtained and characterized in our research team. [1] Materials were synthesized via the sol-gel technique, which allows even distribution of substances introduced into the composite matrix, and then formed as three-dimensional scaffolds using a particulate leaching technique in which sugar and ammonium caronate were used as porogen and factor for surface modyfication. [1]. Three-dimensional scaffolds (FIG.1a and b) possess morphology similar to the cancellous bone – the system of interconnected, open-pore size 150 - 300 μm and a surface roughness of 0.2 - 7 μm – these features provide an opportunity for cell adhesion and proliferation and create a great potential for functionalization process. Introduction of functionalization agents, mainly an organic molecules, enhance or modify the nature of the starting material, such as changing the solubility of material or more efficient binding of growth factors or drugs. The most attractive, from regenerative medicine point of view, are studies on introduction of a pharmacologically active substances into the matrix, which leads to controlled drug delivery systems (DDS) and a three-dimensional skeletal biomaterials provide an excellent carrier for drug molecules. The biocomposites were prepared by combining organic components: 2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate (HEMA) and triethoxyvinylsilane (TEVS) via sol-gel technique. This compounds were chosen because of the presence of vinyl groups, which in addition to C-C bonds, may form a cross-linking connections –(-O-CH2-Si-O-)n, which are responsible for the formation of silica, while presence of alkoxy groups (RO-) in a silicon precursor, allows hydrolysis and polycondensation to form –Si-O-Si– network and silanol ≡Si-OH moieties. Silanols initiate the exchange of ions between the biological fluid and the material, also enabling crystallization of hydroxyapatite (HAp) on the composite surface, which lead to bone growth and an effective recovery of the treated fragment (FIG.2). Biocomposite scaffolds were also coated with synthetic hydroxyapatite (HAp) in the one-pot reaction, carried out in a simple and efficient manner. [4] SEM images (FIG.3) show material that is densely and evenly covered with shape-like flower crystals, which refers to the synthetic hydroxyapatite. [3]. The presence of ≡Si-OH groups on the surface of the materials is essential for the process of functionalization, as these groups interact with organic molecules with functional groups (R), such as amine or hydroxyl, allowing hydrogen bond formation or π-stacking interactions, etc. depending on drug molecule nature. The composite matrix was functionalized via cocondensation and sililation techniques (FIG.4) using 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APTMS) in the inert atmosphere. Then the pharmacologically active substances were introduced - drugs belonging to the group of NSAIDs - ibuprofen and meloxicam (FIG.5). These drugs were chosen because of occurrence of inflammation after implementing dentures. Obtained materials were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction analysis (PXRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (UV-VIS), scanning electron microscopy-energy-dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) and transmission electron microscopy-energy-dispersive spectroscopy (TEM-EDS).

The paper studies presents the problem matter of the research of railway rolling stock in conducted disturbances emission in deck net supply low voltage. This research refers to permissible levels included in the norms. Moreover the paper studies reveal major sources of radio disturbances in deck net supply. Discusses the measurement methodology and includes a examples of the results of normative measurements before installing a filter to eliminate excessive levels of disturbance and after installation.

The paper presents the methodology of measurement radiation and conducted disturbance emission as well as the methodology of the testing resistance elec-trical and electronic devices installed on rolling stock, telecommunication and railway traffic control devices in reference to current obligatory normative standard requirements PN-EN 50121-x-x. The article presents range of measurements and methodology of measurements during testing resistance in electrical and electronic equipment installed on rolling stock as well as in stationary rail devices. In conclusion paper presents comparison of obligatory, normative standard requirements in this range and along with new edition of rail standards, which will be deploy soon, due to the old editions of current standard documents based on the electronic equipment installed on rolling stock and stationary rail devices used to railway traffic control and used to rail connection should be tested in terms of EMC in rail environment to reduce.

Land consolidation procedures are an attempt to comprehensively change the existing spatial structure of land in rural areas. This treatment also brings many other social and economic benefi ts, contributing to the development of consolidated areas. Land consolidation in mountain areas differs in many respects from those implemented in areas with more favorable conditions for the functioning of agriculture. The unfavorable values of land fragmentation indices, terrain conditions and lower than the average soil quality affect both the dominant forms of agricultural activity and the limited opportunities to improve the distribution of plots in space, parameters of shape, and the area as a result of land consolidation. For this reason, the effectiveness of land consolidation in mountain areas can be achieved by improving the quality of transportation network and the accessibility of the plots, arranging ownership issues and improving the quality of cadastral documentation. This article presents the evaluation of the measures of effectiveness of land consolidation realized in mountain areas on the example of Łetownia Village in the Małopolska Province, located in the southern part of Poland. Selected village is an area with unfavorable conditions for the functioning of agriculture and high values of land fragmentation indices.

Ochrona obiektu polega na wyposażeniu go w zewnętrzną instalację odgromową, która będzie obejmowała również instalacje radiowe na zewnątrz budynku oraz pełne zabezpieczenie wszystkich urządzeń elektronicznych zainstalowanych wewnątrz obiektu po stronie zasilania. Przedstawiono elementy składowe zewnętrznej instalacji odgromowej oraz zasady jej doboru. Opisano sposób projektowania zewnętrznej instalacji odgromowej uwzględniający obowiązujące wymagania normatywne.
The paper discusses the matters concerning design of lightning protection of electronic systems installed in the railway facilities exposed to high energy electromagnetic disturbances. Protection consists in providing the equipment with external lightning protection that would include also radio systems installed outside a building as well as full protection of all the electronic equipment installed inside a building on the power supply side. Components of the external lightning protection system are presented, as well as the principles of its selection.. Method for design of external lightning protection systems taking legal requirements into consideration is described.

The paper presents the methodology of radiated and conducted disturbance emission measurement in on-board rolling stock power low voltage network in reference to current obligatory normative standard requirements PN-EN 50121-X-X. The article presents in detail the methodology of measurement, permissible levels of radiation disturbance emission during stand and during vehicle ride and the levels of conducted disturbance emission in on-board low voltage power network. In conclusion, the paper outlines the comparison of obligatory, normative standard requirements in this range along with a new edition of rail standards, which will be implemented soon, due to the old editions of current standards documents based on rolling stock should be tested in terms of EMC in order to fulfill normative requirements.
W artykule przedstawiono metodykę pomiarów emisji zaburzeń promieniowanych i przewodzonych w pokładowej sieci zasilającej niskiego napięcia taboru kolejowego na przykładzie obecnie obowiązujących wymagań norm serii PN-EN 50121-X-X. Szczegółowo przedstawiono metodykę pomiarów, dopuszczalne poziomy emisji zaburzeń promieniowanych na postoju i w trakcie jazdy pojazdu oraz emisji zaburzeń przewodzonych w pokładowej sieci zasilającej niskiego napięcia. Porównano obowiązujące wymagania normatywne w tym zakresie, z nowym planowanym wydaniem norm kolejowych, które niedługo zastąpią obecne normy.

We examine the relative impact of increased housing vs. increased parking availability on ridership of public transit. The approach sheds light on the trade-off in alternative land uses near transit stops: park-and-ride (PnR) vs. transit-oriented development (TOD). In the example of one city studied here, econometric analysis suggests that PnR provides more transit ridership than housing. However, the transit agency may choose the alternative of reducing PnR and partnering with housing developers as a source of new non-fare revenue that creates vibrant, walkable growth in station areas, which is considered to be just as important as ridership.

Water is essential for all life forms and the provision of safe drinking water to the populace cannot be overemphasized. This study examined the bacteriological quality of two sources of water supplies in Mubi, North-eastern Nigeria. A total of 72 water samples were analysed. These include 30 from 10 brands of sachet water and 42 from 21 boreholes in seven different wards of Mubi. Heterotrophic plate count (HPC) was determined by pour plate technique and the total coliform count was determined by 3-3-3 regimen using most probable number (MPN) technique. Escherichia coli and other isolates were identified by standard protocols. The mean HPC for both borehole and sachet water samples were variable and ranged from 3.3 × 102 – 4.7 × 104 cfu/ml for sachet water and 1.1 – 6.0 × 104 cfu/ml for borehole water samples. The HPC of borehole water samples were significantly higher than those of sachet water (P = 0.006). The results showed that the mean MPN index for sachet water samples from brand HCM, KGN, OYM and YNS were zero (0). Brand UDS had the highest mean MPN index (1966.7), while other brands had low mean MPN index that ranged from 3.0 -9.1. In the same vein, the mean MPN index of borehole water samples were high, variable and ranged from 3.7 – 1750. Statistically, the mean MPN index/100ml of borehole water samples were significantly higher than those of sachet water samples (P = 0.006). A total of 49 non-repetitive bacterial species were isolated from the two sources of water. These include E. coli (30), Enterobacter spp (3), P. aeruginosa (5) and Citrobacter spp (11). The distributions of bacterial isolates from the two sources of water showed that E. coli was detected in two brands of sachet water SDK and DYJ and 20 representative boreholes in all the locations, while other organisms were variably distributed. The presence of these organisms constitutes public health significance.

The model was governed by a system of ordinary differential equations; the population into susceptible individuals (S), Exposed individuals (E), infected individuals (I) and Recovered individuals (Q). Theory of positivity and boundedness was used to investigate the well-posedness of the model. Equilibrium solutions were investigated analytically. The basic reproduction number (R0) were calculated using the next generation operator method. Bifurcation analysis and global stability of the model were carried out using centre manifold theory and Lyapunov functions respectively. The effects of parameters such as efficacy of Condom (κ), Effective Contact Rate (β), Compliance of Condom (θ), Progression Rate (ρ) and Treatment Rate (α) on R0 were explored through sensitivity analysis. The possibility of mitigating the spread of gonorrhea in the population has been studied. It can be concluded that parameters representing efficacy of Condom, Effective Contact Rate, Compliance of Condom, Progression Rate and Treatment Rate are significant in reducing the burden of gonorrhea disease in the population.

Background. Just mere brushing of teeth is not enough for maintaining good oral health. Regular cleaning of tongue is equally important for maintaining good oral hygiene and to escape social embarrassment and personal discomfort, which could arise as a result of halitosis. Objective. To test the variables of Theory of Reasoned Action to explain the behavior of tongue cleaning among college going students of Udaipur city, Rajasthan, India. Material and methods. A descriptive cross-sectional survey was conducted amongst 756 college going students of Udaipur city, India using an online self-administered structured questionnaire which was designed based on our study objectives. Logistic regression analysis and structural equation modelling (SEM) were employed for statistical analysis. Confidence level and level of significance were set at 95% and 5% respectively. Results. Logistic regression analysis showed that with one unit increase in subjective norm, the tongue cleaning behavior odds increased significantly by 1.124. Also, the tongue cleaning behavior odds was 1.77 times significantly greater among those brushing their teeth twice a day than those brushing once a day. Structural Equation modelling also evidenced the significant direct effect of subjective norm on tongue cleaning behavior (β = 0.2, p≤0.05). Conclusion. Our results highlighted the importance of subjective norms in espousing tongue cleaning preventive behaviour habit. It is thus recommended to highpoint the role of significant others in changing tongue cleaning behaviour.
