Opis:
Orthopaedic trauma surgery is a complex surgical speciality in which anatomy, physiology and physics are mixed. Proper diagnosing and based on that planning and performing surgery is of crucial matter. This article presents usefulness of 3D reconstruction in diagnostics and surgical planning. It focuses on utility of computed tomography reconstruction in trauma surgery. Moreover, two cases in which this technique was used is described. Complex 3D reconstruction proved its usefulness and in future it may become a modality of choice for planning complex trauma procedures in which standard implants and approaches are insufficient.

Opis:
The main goal of this article is to show, in which way the main assumptions of cultural studies may be useful for development and enrichment the explanatory perspectives of international relations theory. Since that discipline concerns about social and cultural mechanisms, by which power is being created and reproduced, it opens in front of global system scholars a new analytical dimension, located so far rather outside to the main stream of their interests. Cultural studies theorists aspire to reveal, of how is it happening, that coherent and complex structures of knowledge, so called discoursive formations, determine certain forms of social reality, among which some groups obtain privileged position to the others. This case was related to international relations topic by Edward Said in Orientalism, a well-known and respected thesis, that combine the main assumptions of cultural studies with the matter of colonial and post-colonial domination. That is also why the deconstruction of western orientalistic discourse becomes the key aspect of this article. To make E. Said’s remarks clear enough, they need to be preceded, however, by general reflection about cultural studies as such and their connections with cognitive constructivism and widely grasped postmodernism. The first part of this article is dedicated to these thoughts. The second (middle) part contains basic arguments of discourse theory formulated by Jacques Derrida and Michel Foucault, because without them it would be impossible to understand a specific meaning of „power” in cultural studies – the power by forcing and legalizing certain descriptions of reality. Showing the essence of this category seems to be indispensible to explain, in which way, according to E. Said’s opinion, the orientalistic discourse became an instrument of western imperial domination over territories and societies of Orient. This problem will be considered in the last part of the article.

Opis:
This article contains an attempt to put order in the chaos of definitions accompanying the concept of kitsch and simultaneously to free kitsch from any cognitively dubious connection with the category of art. While considering the difficulties of definition arising from the connotative nature of the concept and its contextual modality, the author criticizes the entirety of the conceptualization of kitsch and then divides the phenomenon into ‘first elements’, distinguishing three different views of kitsch: textual essentialist (idyllism, sentimentalism), formal essentialist (triviality, eclecticism), and processual (the effect of unthinking pop culture reproduction). Configurationism and its derivative category of the projective model are useful to the attempt to reject ‘art’ as the ‘good’ antithesis of ‘bad’ taste. These arguments are accompanied by the author’s thoughts on the cultural function of kitsch, its contextual entanglements, and its role in forming the social structure.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to analyse absolute and relative reliability of a number of postural static stability measures obtained from a GYKO inertial sensor system in young adults. Methods: The study examined 29 healthy non-athlete young adults. A test was performed for 30 s while standing on one foot, without moving, with eyes open and arms relaxed along the sides of the body. The examinations were performed twice, with a one-week interval. Relative reliability was measured using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and the 95% confidence interval (95% CI), whereas the absolute reliability was evaluated based on the standard error of measurement (SEM) and the minimal detectable change (MDC). Results: The results of this study showed moderate to good relative reliability scores for all the postural stability measures, with ICC values ranging from 0.62 to 0.70. For most of the analysed variables, SEM% ranged from ca. 10 to 14%. Relatively high SEM% values were obtained only for two variables (Area, Convex Hull Area). Conclusions: The low costs of GYKO inertial sensor systems, the fast and easy installation, the mobility and high reliability of the measurement of postural stability show that it can be effective alternative to stabilographic platforms.
