    Opis:
    The present paper aims at presenting the ambiguity of spare time and service in Vladimir Sorokin’s Day of the Oprichnik in the context of the fictional totalitarian system of the New Middle Ages and the historical atrocity of the Nazi and Soviet history. The proposed interpretation has been based on Giorgio Agamben’s reflections on the individual’s status under the exceptional circumstances of an extremely oppressive regime. The analysis has led the author to conclude the imminent and omnipresent blurring and overlapping of the intimate and the public in Sorokin’s book. Moreover, Day of the Oprichnik may be seen as a rich universe of intertextual references interweaving into a complex picture of a human being disappearing in the uniform crowd of state officers.

    The paper aims at analyzing the importance of national identity in the selected works by Vladimir Sorokin and Viktor Pelevin. Both writers place significant emphasis on presenting the possible consequences of the present social changes. Pelevin predicts the unification of the world’s biggest countries into a homogenous structure based on people’s recognition. On the other hand, Sorokin forecasts the division of the present states into smaller structures, which will need to (re)construct their own identity. The interpretation is complemented with relevant ideas of Hegel and Fukuyama.

    The philosophical doctrine of solipsism plays an extremely significant role in Viktor Pelevin’s works as a core idea which undergoes the process of formal modifications. In this paper this process is referred to as “reconfiguration”. The article presents different representations of solipsism in Pelevin’s novels. The analysis is preceded by a brief introduction to the philosophical roots of the doctrine.

    Pamięć z gipsu. O kruchości tradycji i modelowaniu przeszłości-przyszłości w późnej twórczości Wiktora Pielewina Celem niniejszego artykułu jest próba interpretacji dwóch późnych powieści Wiktora Pielewina – Lampy Mafusaila i iPhuck 10– w kontekście czasoprzestrzeni, pamięci i zapomnienia. Przeprowadzona analiza wyjawiła niezwykłe zainteresowanie rosyjskiego pisarza fizycznymi i filozoficznymi teoriami, aspirującymi do zrozumienia prawdziwej natury Wszechświata. Czas i przestrzeń w analizowanych utworach stanowią nierozerwalną całość, tworząc skomplikowaną sieć równoległych światów. Co więcej, te światy nie funkcjonują w linearny sposób, do jakiego przywykło ludzkie poznanie. W Lampie Mafusaila podróże w czasie są możliwe, ale wprowadzenie zmian/ulepszeń w strukturę przeszłości sprawia, że przyszłość ulega całkowitemu zniszczeniu (w rzeczywistości zmiana przeszłości prowadzi do zupełnie innej czasoprzestrzeni). Z drugiej strony podróże w czasie w iPhuck 10 przybierają oryginalną formę aktu Demiurga (w tym wypadku stworzony świat jest pełen tęsknoty i walki o zanikłe wartości duchowe), jako że pamięć w danej powieści równoznaczna jest tworzeniu nowej materialnej rzeczywistości. W tym świetle podróże w czasie są niezwykle utrudnione i pozbawione sensu – wszystkie możliwe światy istnieją przecież równolegle.
    Memory made of plaster. On the fragility of tradition and modeling the past-future in the late works of Viktor Pelevin The paper aims at interpreting two recent novels by Viktor Pelevin –  Mafusail's Lamp and iPhuck 10 in the context of time-space, remembrance and oblivion. The analysis revealed the Russian writer’s vast interest in the physical and philosophical theories related to the true nature of the Universe. Therefore, time and space are inextricably connected in the relevant novels as they form a whole network of parallel realities. Moreover, the realities do not function in the linear way, as human beings would like to perceive them.  In Mafusail’s Lamp time travel is possible, but the introduce modifications of the past make the future impossible (in fact, the amendment of the past leads to an utterly new time-space). On the other hand, time travel in iPhuck 10  takes an unorthodox form of world creation (in this case – a world struggling to revive traditional spiritual values), as remembrance in the novel calls for constructing a whole new world. Thus, time travel hardly makes any sense, as all possible worlds exist simultaneously.

О хрупкости традиции и моделировании прошлого-будущего в позднем творчестве Виктора Пелевина Целью нынешней статьи является попытка интерпретации двух поздних романов Виктора Пелевина – Лампы Мафусаилаи iPhuck 10– к ключе хронотопа, памяти и забвения. Проведенный анализ выявил несомненную заинтересованность русского писателя в физических и философских теориях, пытающихся разгадать истинную природу Вселенной. Время и пространство в анализированных произведениях неразделимы, так как создают сложную сеть параллельных миров. К тому же эти новые реальности не функционируют линейным, привычным для человеческого познания образом. В Лампе Мафусаила путешествия во времени возможны, но введение модификаций/улучшений в структуре прошлого полностью уничтожает будущее (в сущности изменение прошлого становится путем в другое пространство-время). С другой стороны, вiPhuck 10 путешествие во времени приобретает оригинальную форму демиургического акта (в данном случае созданный таким образом мир полон тоски и ностальгии по исчезнувшим духовным ценностям). В таком ракурсе путешествия во времени трудны и лишены смысла, так как все возможные реальности существуют и материализируются, будучи параллельными действительностями.

    The aim of this paper is to depict significant parallels between the works  of Witold Gombrowicz and Viktor Pelevin within the scope of reinterpreting national myths. In their novels, Trans Atlantic and Buddha’s Little Finger, the writers seem to take account of substantial danger related to fixed, ossified forms of understanding the notions of nation and motherland. Despite visible differences in their styles both novelist stay alert to automatized relationship to any phenomenon and make attempts at provoking the reader to rethink their relationship to the abovementioned terms. The author of the present paper finds these issues crucial and very up-to-date in the post postmodern society and culture, in particular in light of the recent geopolitical changes.

    The aim of the article is to show the interrelations between the works of Carl Gustav Jung and Fyodor Dostoyevsky with particular emphasis on the archetype  of shadow. The aforementioned archetype has been analyzed and characterized in the paper in order to interpret the novel Crime and Punishment in the psychoanalytical key. This category has been analyzed at the level of the structure and plot of the work. Consequently, the author of the present article attempts to interpret the functions of the main characters of Crime and Punishment and divides them into triads related to relevant Jungian archetypes. The research amounts to an incentive to further explore the Jungian traces in the works of Fyodor Dostoyevsky.

    Viktor Pelevin is one of the most outstanding novelists in contemporary Russian literature. His works are popular with both professional critics and ordinary readers in the whole world. The present paper aims at finding the key characteristics of Pelevin’spoetics. Therefore, the author has decided to employ the notion of reconfiguration, which depicts the complexity of interrelations between the Russian writer’s novels. The conductedanalysis of one of the dominant aspects of this intertextual network — the motif of the autoteleology of language — has revealed a new universe of meanings.

    The paper is an attempt to interpret the metaliterary aspect of Vladimir Sorokin’s novel titled Manaraga. Thorough analysis of the text has revealed the postmodern understanding of literary activity as the pivotal element of Sorokin’s narration. Thus, the narrator along with his words do not represent reality but create it in an almost divine manner. The interpretation also suggests that the novel has an underlying message seeping from its every page – cognition and reading are inextricably connected. Moreover, deep cognition needs a plurality of ideas/views/points of view, which is present only in a world in which books are read and not consumed.
