    This paper describes the main idea of IP Multimedia Subsystem, the overview of its architecture, operating principles, basic signalling scenarios and the service provisioning process. The explained concepts are accompanied by an example configuration of the so called „call forward unconditional” supplementary voice service deployed on OpenIMSCore platform with support of Kamailio software serving as an application server.

    W artykule kompleksowo opisano podejście do zagadnienia oceny jakości usług telefonii pakietowej. Na wstępnie dokonano systematyki pojęć związanych z oceną jakości, wyjaśniając m.in. różnicę pomiędzy używanymi w tym kontekście terminami QoS (Quality of Service) oraz QoE (Quality of Experience). Następnie omówiono możliwe poziomy oceny jakości, tj. poziom sieci, aplikacji i użytkownika, opisując dla każdego z nich adekwatne metryki jakościowe, stosowne rekomendacje organizacji standaryzujących oraz sugerowane wartości graniczne warunkujące akceptowalną jakość. Dla poziomu użytkownika dokonano krótkiej systematyki stosowanych metod oceny, koncentrując się na metodzie E-model z zalecenia ITU-T G.107 [1]. E-model jest nieinwazyjną, pasywną metodą pozwalającą na oszacowanie subiektywnej oceny użytkownika w skali MOS (Mean Opinion Score) na bazie wartości parametrów obiektywnych tzn. w pełni mierzalnych. W pracy zilustrowano praktyczne zastosowanie E-modelu, wyjaśniając sposób pozyskiwania niezbędnych dla niego wartości m.in. z raportów protokołu RTCP (Real Time Control Protocol).
    This paper summarizes quality evaluation of the IP packet telephony service. At the beginning the taxonomy of the quality related concepts is introduced and the fundamental differences between QoS (Quality of Service) and QoE (Quality of Experience) approaches are explained. Furthermore the possible quality evaluation levels including user, application and network perspective are proposed and for each quality evaluation level the relevant recommendations of 23 standardization bodies, the adequate metrics and associated thresholds necessary for the acceptable service quality are discussed. For the user level, the brief review of the quality evaluation methods is presented with the special focus on E-model as defined in ITU-T G.107 [1] recommendation. E-model is a not invasive passive method that let to estimate the user subjective opinion in MOS (Mean Opinion Score) scale based on the values of the measurable objective parameters. In this paper the practical application of the E-model is described including details related to acquisition of the necessary values from RTCP (Real Tome Control Protocol) reports.

    W pracy przedstawiono zagadnienie oceny wydajności aplikacji tworzonych w modelach natywnym oraz hybrydowym. Analizę porównawczą przeprowadzono przyjmując jako kryterium czas wykonywania funkcji natywnych, takich jak np. dostęp do sprzętu, dostęp do sieci, zapis i odczyt danych z wykorzystaniem mechanizmów specyficznych dla konkretnego systemu operacyjnego. Pomiary wykonano przygotowując dwie jednakowe pod względem funkcjonalnym aplikacje dla systemu operacyjnego Android, jedną w języku Java (metodologia natywna), drugą w języku JavaScript i HTML z wykorzystaniem mostu PhoneGap (metodologia hybrydowa), w których wywoływano określone funkcje natywne i mierzono czas ich zakończenia. Badania wykonano dla kilku wersji systemu operacyjnego Android w celu uzyskania szerszego poglądu na analizowane zagadnienie.
    This paper presents the performance evaluation of the mobile native and hybrid applications. The comparison of application performance was carried out assuming a native function execution time (e.g. an access to the hardware, an access to the network, writing or reading files or contacts) as a main criteria. The measurements were conducted by preparing two functionally identical applications for Android OS, one written in Java language (native methodology) the other written in JavaScript and HTML languages with the aid of PhoneGap bridge (hybrid methodology), that were later used to call selected native functions and measure their execution time. The evaluation was performed for three versions of Android OS in order to have a broader perspective on the analysed issue.

    In this work we perform extensive simulation studies to evaluate the mean packet waiting time in a system composed of two queues and Earliest Deadline First scheduler with different deadline distributions. The investigation is focused on the analysis of mean packet delays when deterministic and exponentially distributed deadline values are used. Comparing the results is targeted at deciding if the analytical approach proposed in our earlier work for modelling performance of Earliest Deadline First scheduler with exponentially distributed deadline values is also suitable when deadline values are deterministic. The series of simulation tests let us conclude the conditions when both deadline distributions produce very close results thus confirming the applicability of our already published analytical approach.

    This work deals with the performance evaluation of EDF (Earliest Deadline First) packet scheduler with two classes. The primary metric of interest is the mean sojourn time for each class. The system is composed of two classes (two queues) with Poisson input to each of them, deterministic service times and exponentially distributed deadline values. The model is analysed as an embedded Markov chain at the instants of packet departures from the service. The solution i.e. the joint probability distribution of the number of packets in each queue is obtained using the matrix approach. The metrics such as the mean sojourn time or the mean number of packets in the system for each class are directly obtained from this joint probability distribution.

    The determination of the number of the simultaneously observed objects is an important problem of the MUSIC algorithm. As the result of the covariance matrix eigendecomposition the eingevector and unitary matrix are obtained. The unitary matrix defines the transformation of the measurement vector. Consequently the obtained vector is orthogonal to the noise subspace. The solution of the eigendecomposition problem can be avoided assuming a-priori knowledge of the unitary matrix. Practically, the passive sonar detects the first appeared noisy object. This enable to beforehand define the set of the unitary matrixes exactly matched to the previously determined directions of the signal arrival. The article presents the form of the matrix and features of the measurement vector transformation. The results of the DOA algorithm computer simulation for passive sonar composed of four hydrophones developed in the OBR CTM S.A. are also presented.

    The hydroacoustic system based on DOA estimation utilizes passive antenna composed of many hydrophones. The samples of the arriving acoustic signal must be gathered synchronously from each hydrophone. This enables to take advantage of parametric processing signals methods. These methods make possible determination of the amplitude and the phase relationship among particular hydrophones. The newest complex systems made up of many sub modules uses network solutions. In the case of Ethernet network some standards (e.g. Precision Time Protocol) are defined to enable synchronization of the data (samples) gathered from many hydrophones by the clock synchronization. When the antenna consists of few hydrophones then the special concentrator connected point-to-point to hydrophones can be utilized. This article discusses the issue related to PTP as well as concentrator based on FPGA technology, which uses simple UDP protocol. In the case of concentrator the synchronous method of the I/Q detection which not requires synchronous samples acquisition is also presented.

    Physical activity is a natural need of a human organism in every stage of the onthogenesis. It is especially indispensable for the proper physical and mental development in childhood, in youth as well as in adult life. Usually it the person’s interests and capabilities that determine the form of their physical activity. Among the most popular disciplines nowadays are: table tennis, skiing, gym exercises, gymnastics, roller–skating, football, swimming, jogging as well as water sports such as rowing. There are many benefits that come from any form of physical activity. The purpose of this research was to determine factors that affect young people’s decision to take up rowing. The research has been carried out on three social groups: active rowers – athletes (20 women and 19 men) at the age of 15–21, all members of Poznań rowing clubs; students of primary and secondary schools in Poznań (72 girls and 68 boys) at the 13–14; as well as adult inhabitants of Poznań (51 women and 52 men) at the age 30–45. The research was carried out with the help of a diagnostic poll (author’s questionnaire) comprising 17 questions regarding knowledge about the discipline, the discipline’s popularity as well as the influence of media on the decision as to the form of physical activity. Over the last few years the number of rowers has decreased significantly in spite of considerable international success of Polish rowers. The reasons for youth not taking up any physical activity may lie in incorrectly prepared range of activities that rowing clubs have to offer as well as in insufficient means taken to inform society about this sport. It seems that new methods of reaching potential future athletes should be used, e.g. by means of the Internet and social media.

    The first Polish whole-body spectrometer (WBS) with scintillation detectors was constructed in Łódź in the early sixties of the last century and was operating there for more than 30 years. In 2008, the 19th century steel shield of this instrument was transported from Łódź to Kraków, where it was re-equipped with a modern gamma spectrometric system. Design and construction of this modernized spectrometer is presented along with the results for in-body contamination measurements of four Polish inhabitants who returned to Poland from Japan after the Fukushima accident compared with the results for typical Polish inhabitants, the volunteers from the Institute of Nuclear Physics (IFJ, Kraków) workers. Although, a clear signal from the Fukushima fallout was noticed for three of four persons who returned from Japan, the calculated doses were negligible. No traces of Fukushima-originating radionuclides were noticed for the examined people who have not traveled to Japan.
