This article presents the key aspects of configuration management in the maintenance of freight wagons. The authors of the article significantly relate to the place and role of the system approach in the development of the fundamentals of configuration management, focusing on the factors, the use of which can improve railway safety and interoperability. Maintenance Management System of freight wagons due to multiple accidents to railway, can create an important area falls within the scope of Directives of interoperability of rail transport. Maintenance Management System is implemented to the safety and interoperability in the railway system and can provide the ability of wagons to carries freight services through them.

Project Riese (German for giant) in the Owl Mountains (Góry Sowie), located in Lower Silesia, was the largest mining and building project of Nazi Germany. The construction work was done by forced laborers, POWs, and prisoners of concentration camp Gross-Rosen. Many of them lost their lives. The whole project was kept in secret, even the beginning of the construction work is unclear. The purpose of Riese remains uncertain because of lack of documentation, it is still rather a hypothesis than a fact. The only verified information is that the project was abandoned at the initial stage due to the approach of the Red Army. Before that, Nazis put a lot of effort to hide all information about Riese. Today, we can see how successful these efforts were. Nowadays, six underground structures were discovered in Walim and Głuszyca area: Włodarz (3000 m of tunnels), Osówka (1700 m of tunnels), Sokolec (or Gontów – 800 m of tunnels), Soboń (740 m of tunnels), Rzeczka (560 m of tunnels), Jugowice (500 m of tunnels) and about 600 m of tunnels under Książ Castle in Wałbrzych (Aniszewski 2002, Graba 2012). It has been found that many of the tunnels in some structures have a dead end, and there is a theory this might prove that all complexes were supposed to be combined. It is believed that many kilometers of the underground tunnels are still to be discovered (Cera 1998). The whole area is one of the most popular destinations for treasure hunters and scientists. Nowadays treasure hunters are using not only maps and metal detectors, but also GPRs. Scientists are interested in Riese because of many underground tunnels in various sizes and depth, as well as huge amount of steel which was used to reinforce adits. All these details allow scientists to perform many different types of research. Geophysicists are testing the equipment and methodology in the area of gravimetric, magnetic and GPR measurements. All geophysical measurements need to be put into the coordinate system, local or global. Moreover, to eliminate gravity or magnetic effect of the excavations and steel reinforcements their shape must be known (Porzucek 2013). To meet the needs of scientists, researchers, tourists and museum authorities, authors of this report, with the help of students, performed a full inventory of Osówka complex. It was performed in 2015 and covered all underground and ground objects. 1700 m of underground tunnels in the main part of the complex (Museum of Underground City Osówka) were scanned, together with 130 m of Sztolnia Wodna (from Polish water adit) and two ground objects: Siłownia and Kasyno. These two objects are supposed to be nuclear energy plants and Hitler’s headquarters or command headquarters (Cera 1998). During measurements, laser scanner (Faro, Focus 3D), tachymeter (Topcon, OS103) and GPS receivers (Topcon, HiperPro) for georeferencing were used. The main scientific importance of the study is a unique data set that was collected during this research. Afterwords, geometrical relations between objects of Osówka complex were analyzed. The previously supposed course of the Sztolnia Wodna and its destination was revised. Moreover, the possible lift shaft connecting Siłownia and underground part of Osówka was confirmed. The report presents location of objects in relations to each other which was not previously verified in research or verified in the other ways. Although, it is possible to do geophysics measurement on unexplored field, data from researches provides possibility of introducing excavations height and size amendments. Another inventory result is a virtual museum, available from 1st April for everybody on Museum of Underground City Osówka website (www. osowka.pl). The user can virtually explore the whole complex, including places where visitors are not allowed. During measurements, flooded adits have also been inventoried: the ones in the museum and in Sztolnia Wodna (entrance collapsed in November 2015 and the whole adit is in danger of collapsing). Inventory also included Siłownia (firstly, water has been pumped out to allow measurements in the staircase and alleged lift shaft). Another inaccessible place available during the virtual tour is shaft connecting the forest near Kasyno to the undergrounds. The virtual tour allows also measuring selected surface or distance between chosen points and checking coordinates or height in a particular spot. The user can generate a link to a screen which interests him and upload it to any website. It must be said that even sharing this amount of data doesn’t equate to possibility of conducting research and measurements in appointed spots. Project Riese is located on the land belonging to the local government, individuals and National Forests (the majority of it). Before taking any actions, area manager must give his permission. It is strictly enforced since the whole “golden train” story in July 2015.

Opis:
Ocena stanu technicznego zbiorników wody pitnej na dwóch stacjach wodociągowych, eksploatowanych przez ponad 50 lat, oraz zbiornika eksploatowanego przez niemal 90 lat wykazała ich uszkodzenia korozyjne. Znacznym uszkodzeniom uległo przekrycie zbiorników. Natomiast żelbetowe ściany i słupy zbiorników nadal znajdują się w dobrym stanie technicznym, choć w jednym ze zbiorników odspojeniu uległa wyprawa cementowa. Za przyczynę uszkodzeń korozyjnych uznano zbyt cienką otulinę zbrojenia. Zalecono remont lub wymianę przekrycia oraz ochronę elementów konstrukcyjnych zbiorników systemowymi materiałami natryskowymi z mikrokrzemionką.
The water tanks in two water supply stations being in use for above fifty years and one water tank used for above ninety years were examined. It was found that the reinforced concrete walls and columns are quite good only in one of tanks the cement plaster is debonded. The intensive corrosive damages of roofs were observed. The thin concrete cover of reinforcement was identified as the reason of this damage. The repair or change of roofs was recommended as well as the protection of structural elements by repair materials with silica fume.

Haemophilus parasuis belongs to opportunistic microorganisms of undefined virulence. The purpose of the studies was to compare suitability of PCR/RFLP in our modification and ERIC PCR for epidemiological study of domestic strains of H. parasuis. The results were evaluated taking into account two different aspects: suitability of the tests for isolating the highest possible number of clone groups and subjective evaluation of the method judged with respect to the following criteria: difficulty, availability of equipment and reagents as well as time and cost of the study. The results obtained in the present study show that the two methods used for typing of H. parasuis had high discriminatory power. Taking into account this parameter it can be concluded that ERIC PCR is more suitable than PCR/RFLP. This justifies the use of ERIC PCR for routine epidemiological analyses of mentioned pathogen. Taking into account the complexity of method used, ERIC-PCR based on random amplification of DNA, proved to be comparable to PCR/RFLP. The last mentioned technique is relatively less expensive and labour-consuming, especially when diagnostic PCR method is used for the epidemiological studies.

The implementation of ITS is carried out with the use of standard project management tools. Therefore, it includes certain phases. One of the most difficult and risky phase of ITS implementation is launching of such projects. An important factor causing this difficulty is the fact that launching is being done on „living organism”. Thus it has to be time-consuming mostly due to the necessity of a proper real-time city traffic data collection. Additional factors are occurring failures (eg. the tram network or traffic lights system) or accidents. Another problem are social expectations, which does not take into account the specifics of ITS implementation. The citizens expect immediate results. The aim of people responsible for the launching phase of such systems is to ensure smooth operation of all its components and to provide local community with information on a relatively long system activation to its full operation. This article presents the analysis of the launching phase of the biggest ITS in Poland.

The motion of an oscillator excited by a Poisson process is a stochastic process X(t). Knowing the trajectory of the motion we can find all the stochastic moments of X(t) for large t. This, in turn, allows us to find stochastic distribution of the forces exciting an oscillator. In this paper we evaluate the impact of errors in the computations of the moments on computed distribution of the forces exciting an oscillator.
Ruch oscylatora wymuszony przez proces stochastyczny Poissona jest również pewnym procesem stochastycznym X(t). Znając pewną trajektorię ruchu tego oscylatora, możemy znaleźć w przybliżeniu wszystkie momenty zmiennej losowej X(t) dla dostatecznie dużych t. Momenty te pozwalają znaleźć rozkład stochastyczny sił działających na oscylator. W pracy badamy wpływ błędów w obliczeniach momentów na obliczanie prawdopodobieństw wielkości sił działających na oscylator

The inelastic mean free path of electrons (IMFP) is an important material parameter for description of electron transport processes in solids. This parameter is particularly useful for quantifying the electron spectroscopies, in particular Auger electron spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, electron energy loss spectroscopy and elastic peak electron spectroscopy. In this work, a brief overview of the IMFP determination is presented. Generally, there are two groups of methods to determine the IMFP: (i) calculations using the theoretical model based on the experimental optical data, and (ii) calculations using theory relating the IMFP and the measured probability elastic electron backscattering from solids. Major advances in the development of the second group of methods were made in three laboratories; these advances are reviewed here. The elastic backscattering probability, in absolute or relative units, can be conveniently evaluated from the elastic peak intensity. However, much effort is needed to develop the theory for calculating the IMFP, which typically involves the Monte Carlo simulations of electron trajectories in solids. Presently, this theory and typical procedures of the spectra processing are implemented in the software package EPESWIN developed by Jablonski. In recent years, much attention is devoted to the phenomenon of the electron energy losses in the surface region of solids. Reliability of the theory of elastic backscattering is distinctly improved if this effect is taken into account.

The system of human activity, which is established by genetics and regulated by outer and inner factors, is associated with many characteristics which maintain the body in the best condition and ensure appropriate life quality. Objective. To evaluate of life quality among male shift-workers. Methods: Research based on a self-devised questionnaire, conducted among 700 shift-workers, followed by statistical analysis of the results. Results. Nearly a half of respondents (43.00%) reported that shift-work influences the quality of their family life. Remarkably, such an opinion was often stated by people with children (46.01%) p<0.05, the divorced (58.22%), married people (44.74%) and bachelors (25.33%), respectively. Fathers usually indicated lack of contact with their family as well as irregular consumption of meals (66.91%). Almost every third respondent noted that their shift type of work negatively influence their sexual life (31.14%). Conclusions. It was shown that shift-work negatively influences the respondents’ life quality in the form of deterioration of the quality of family life; the respondents, regardless of marital status, age and having children, most often complained about the lack of contact with the family and irregular eating with them; negative influence on sexual life, which was the case in one-third of respondents. In order to encourage healthy behaviour and increase the quality of life of people performing shift-work, training and programmes should be introduced. These would help shift- workers to adjust their work time to their family and social life.

The dynamics of the changes in the railway sector requires a system approach. Adopted management mechanisms are created by new regulations, for example a new Directive of the European Parliament and the Council 2012/34 / EU of 21 November 2012. New law presents a new categorization of railway sidings and proposes their way of functioning in terms of a safety criterion. Ensuring the supply chain with regard to safety is determined by specific operating rules on the railway sidings. At the same time this requires intensified supervision of the railway sidings, especially in the case of rail events. A railway siding is a very important component of the rail system and a railway siding user is a special case of an infrastructure manager. The aim of this article is to present the selected aspects of the efficient management of railway sidings in terms of a safety criterion. The scope of this article includes the issue of railway siding management in the context of a new division of railway infrastructure arising from changes in legislation.

The paper presents a prototype semi-industrial cooling line developed by the authors, which makes it possible to design a thermal treatment of forgings with the use of the forging heat, together with exemplary test results for forgings forked type. The proposed method of heat treatment dedicated to these forgings was described and compared to traditionally used heat treatment method in chamber furnaces. Next, the original research stand was presented, which performs mechanical fatigue test on final products – forked-type forgings. Forgings after heat treatment and cooling on the prototype line were tested on this stand in condition of cyclically variable mechanical loads in order to resistance to mechanical fatigue was analyzed and the influence of performed exemplary heat treatment on mechanical properties. The presented preliminary investigations performed on the designed combined research standing, consisting of: the prototype controlled cooling line, as well as mechanical fatigue stand point to the possibility of implementing thermal treatment with the use of the heat generated during the forging process and determining its impact on the mechanical properties of forgings.
