    The main topic of this article is the description of a concept of the authors’ suspended rail vehicle. Firstly, the existing solutions where analysed with determination of their disadvantages and advantages. Subsequently, the proposed construction was described in the fields of: rolling stock build, suspension construction and guidance system. This article is based on authors’ master thesis: „The concept of suspended railway engine wagon”, conducted on Mechanical Engineering Faculty of Gdansk University of Technology.
    Niniejsza publikacja została poświęcona szczegółowemu opisowi proponowanej przez autorów koncepcji podwieszanego pojazdu szynowego. W pierwszej kolejności przeanalizowano istniejące rozwiązania, wraz ze wskazaniem ich podstawowych wad i zalet. Następnie opisano proponowaną konstrukcję w zakresie: budowy wagonu, sposobu jego zawieszenia oraz prowadzenia po zadanym torze ruchu. Artykuł ten powstał na podstawie pracy dyplomowej pt. „Koncepcja wagonu silnikowego kolei podwieszanej”, na wydziale Mechanicznym Politechniki Gdańskiej.

    The main topic of this article is the construction of a railway bogie, which was used in authors concept of suspended rail vehicle. Firstly, the vehicle was briefly described with particular consideration of the parameters determining the bogie design. Subsequently, constructional solutions were described in terms of individual bogie subassemblies, like: wheelsets, bogie frame, two stage suspension, propulsion and brake systems.     Niniejsza publikacja została poświęcona szczegółowemu opisowi wózka, przeznaczonego do wykorzystania w proponowanej przez autorów koncepcji podwieszanego pojazdu szynowego. W pierwszej kolejności skrótowo opisano rzeczony pojazd, ze szczególnym naciskiem na parametry determinujące konstrukcję wózków. Następnie zostały omówione zastosowane rozwiązania konstrukcyjne w zakresie budowy poszczególnych podzespołów wózka, takich jak: zestawy kołowe, rama, dwustopniowe usprężynowanie, układ napędowy i hamulcowy. Artykuł ten powstał na podstawie pracy dyplomowej pt. „Koncepcja wagonu silnikowego kolei podwieszanej”, na wydziale Mechanicznym Politechniki Gdańskiej.

    This publication is devoted to the evaluation of the movement parameters of the concept suspended monorail vehicle which was conducted on a basis of its traction characteristic and dynamic capabilities. Firstly, the construction of the proposed vehicle was briefly described along with the specification of the most important design assumptions. Subsequently, the focus was put on the methodology and the very plotting of the vehicle’s traction characteristic, as well as the process of its acceleration as a function of speed. Finally, the braking system was assessed by determining the average braking deceleration depending on its type. This article is based on authors’ master thesis: „The concept of suspended railway engine wagon”, conducted on Mechanical Engineering Faculty of Gdansk University of Technology.
    Niniejsza publikacja została poświęcona ocenie parametrów ruchowych koncepcyjnego pojazdu kolei podwieszanej, którą dokonano w oparciu o jego charakterystykę trakcyjną oraz możliwości dynamiczne. W pierwszej kolejności skrótowo opisano konstrukcję proponowanego pojazdu wraz z wyszczególnieniem najważniejszych założeń projektowych. Następnie skupiono się na metodyce oraz samym wykreśleniu charakterystyki trakcyjnej pojazdu, jak również przebiegu jego przyspieszenia w funkcji prędkości. Na koniec poddano ocenie układ hamulcowy poprzez wyznaczenie średniego opóźnienia hamowania w zależności od jego rodzaju. Artykuł ten powstał na podstawie pracy dyplomowej pt. „Koncepcja wagonu silnikowego kolei podwieszanej”, na wydziale Mechanicznym Politechniki Gdańskiej.

    The main topic of this article is the strength analysis of selected bogie components – the wheelset axle and the frame. Axle calculations were based on the analytical method and were conducted with different types of materials. The finite element method was used for verification of bogie frame construction and loads applied on the frame were calculated according to the PN-EN 13749 norm. The bogie is a part of suspended electric multiple unit which was main matter of authors’ master thesis: „The concept of suspended railway engine wagon”, conducted on Mechanical Engineering Faculty of Gdansk University of Technology.

    Preoperative preparation of working models of the skull and free bone flaps using the digital print technology and photocured polyacrylic resins may be of a great benefit to the patient, for whom a virtual resection and reconstruction procedure may be planned in detail and performed. The purpose of mid-facial reconstruction using 3D models is to plan a functional mid-facial reconstruction procedure in order to restore supportive function of intraorbital structures and to make placement of dental implants and further prosthetic rehabilitation possible.Maxillary and mid-facial reconstruction using a free fibula flap based on a three-dimensional working model was performed in a patient diagnosed with a squamous cell carcinoma of the left maxillary sinus penetrating to the orbit, the ethmoid complex, and the pterygopalatine fossa. The use of three-dimensional polyacrylic models allowed for detailed preoperative planning and a virtual resection and reconstruction procedure with a highly satisfying functional and cosmetic effect.A procedure based on methods discussed here may be significantly shorter and more precise.

    Introduction: About 25% of melanomas are localized in head and neck skin, and this particular localization is most difficult to treat, and the prognosis is less favorable. The depth of melanoma infiltration (Clark and Breslau grade) into the skin is the main factor of local advancement of the disease. Surgical treatment is an essential therapeutic modality in patients with melanoma. Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate results of our surgical treatment of melanomas in head and neck localisation, treated from 1997 to 2007 in Department of Oncological and Reconstructive Surgery in Center of Oncology IMSC in Gliwice. Material: We analysed group of 47 patients (aged 26 to 75 years, mean 49), treated by surgical excision of malignant melanoma in the head and neck region. Most of the patiens required to use free fl aps or skin graft technique to close posexcisional defect, on basis of clinical considerations. Results: The 5-year total survival for all patients was 62% and were dependent on depht of melanoma infiltration and regional lymph node metastasis. The significant prognostic factors were: localization of primary focus, local progression of disease, free microscopical excision margins sex and age. Conclusions: Prognosis in the patients with melanoma of the head and neck is unreliable and dependent on local advancement of disease and localization of primary focus. Surgical treatment is an essential therapeutic modality in patients with melanoma. Adiuvant radiotherapy after surgical treatment of melanoma of the head and neck is intended for the patiens with high risk of local or regional recurence of disease.

    In most production plants, waste heat is usually discharged into the environment, contributing to a reduction in the energy efficiency of industrial processes. This is often due to the low thermal parameters of the carriers in which this energy is contained, such as oils, water, exhaust gases or other post-process gases, which means that their use for electricity production in a conventional Rankine cycle may prove to be economically unprofitable. One of the technologies enabling the use of lowand medium-temperature waste heat carriers is the organic Rankine cycle (ORC) technology. The paper present results of calculations performed to evaluate potential electricity production in ORC using waste heat from a natural gas-fired glass melting furnace. The analysis was carried out assuming the use of a single-stage axial turbine, whose efficiency was estimated using correlations available in the literature. The calculations were carried out for three working fluids, namely hexamethyldisiloxane, dimethyl carbonate, and toluene for two scenarios, i.e. ORC system dedicated only to electricity production and ORC system working in cogeneration mode, where heat is obtain from cooling the condenser. In each of the considered cases, the ORC system achieves the net power output exceeding 300 kW (309 kW for megawatts in the cogenerative mode to 367 kW for toluene in the non-cogenerative mode), with an estimated turbine efficiency above 80%, in range of 80,75 to 83,78%. The efficiency of the ORC system, depending on the used working fluid and the adopted scenario, is in the range from 14.85 to 16.68%, achieving higher efficiency for the non-cogenerative work scenario.

    The presence of Giardia genotypes was investigated in 18 raccoon dogs (Nyctereutes procyonoides) and 80 red foxes (Vulpes vulpes) on one farm. To demonstrate Giardia cysts, fresh and trichrome stained smears were microscopically screened. Two molecular markers were used for Giardia genotyping: a fragment of the beta-giardin gene and a fragment of the glutamate dehydrogenase gene. All faecal samples obtained from red foxes were negative. Giardia cysts were identified only in 2 of the 18 raccoon dogs. The result of genotyping and phylogenetic analysis showed that the G. duodenalis from both raccoon dogs belonged to the D assemblage. This finding of a new animal reservoir of G. duodenalis canids-specific genotypes is important in order to eliminate the risk of infecting other animals bred for fur. Further molecular analyses of Giardia isolates in raccoon dogs are required. The present study represents the first contribution to knowledge of G. duodenalis genotypes in raccoon dogs.
