Opis:: Monotonicity of functions were of great interest of many mathematicians. Starting from the well known theorem of monotonicity of a differentiable function one can get quite sophisticated results. We give a survey of results when thesis of them is continuous and monotone function. Someone can ask why it should be continuous. Even a differentiable functions but not at the only point of its domain with positive derivative need not be non-decreasing. That is why we want to look for theorems for continuous functions.

Opis:: This paper presents two triaxial finite element (FE) models: a “full model” and a “quarter model”, representing the contact between the specimen’s rough surface and the ideally smooth and flat surface of the punch. Models have a contact zone that represents the topography of the real surface and has elastoplastic properties close to those of the real contact. The contact zone was entirely modelled on the basis of roughness measurements performed on a real milled specimen made of 5083 aluminium alloy. The developmentof the FE models, the stages in their refinement and the interlinking of the contact zone with the material of the specimen are described. The results of the computed deformations occurring during the specimen contact loading with the punch were compared with the experimental results. The possible causes of the observed deviations of the computer simulation results from the experimental ones were discussed. The models were used to analyse the effect of the specimen’s material properties, i.e. Young’s modulus, yield strength, compressive strength and material hardening, on the deformations in the contact. On this basis a procedure for predicting the parameters describing the contact characteristic in cases of changes in the properties of the subsurface zone is proposed.

Opis:: This paper discusses the need to create intelligent machine tools, the expected properties of such machine tools and the benefits they will bring to business and the development of manufacturing. The basis for machine tool intelligence, and the evolution of machine tools towards the development of their intelligent functions, with a special emphasis on control, digitization and virtualization systems, the role of the STP-NC standard, and the prediction of machine tool operating properties, are presented. The arising concepts of the development of intelligent machine tool functions, which take into account the monitoring and planning of a collisionless tool path, are discussed. The approach to achieving real time and the intelligent machine tool is described for copy milling. Also the directions of implementing intelligent functions by machine tool manufacturers are presented using the MAZAK Corporation as an example.

Opis:: The paper presents the idea and need for the holistic modelling of machine tools. The complexity of such modelling is illustrated for a 5-axis machining centre. The need to model errors in the controllable axes of machine tools with rotational and linear motion drives is indicated. The physical dependences having a bearing on the state of deformations produced by temperature and dynamic forces, as well as the assumptions and computational modelsof shift generation in the high-speed bearing sets of spindles, and models of the behaviour of the ball screw are presented. Moreover, the results of experimental studies of the thermal behaviour of linear motor sets and guideways with rolling blocks are reported.

Opis:: Simulating of workpiece and fixture behaviour is commonly done with the use of Finite Element Analyses. In the most, if not all, cases researchers usually use traditional implicit integration scheme FEM codes (e.g. ANSYS, ABAQUS/Standard, NASTRAN, FEAP). In this paper a different approach is proposed. FEM code of ABAQUS/Explicit, based on explicit integration of equations of the motion is used to predict workpiece behaviour during alignment and fixing process in quasistatic state. Comparison of results obtained using both implicit and explicit techniques is also presented, results and differences are discussed.

Opis:: The assurance of high precision alignment of workpieces with low stiffness requires thorough knowledge about the phenomena taking place in the contact area under the influence of forces exerted by actuators. It is indispensable to utilise the model of a contact and deformations taking place in it. In order to solve the problem of contact, the contact geometry was modelled by means of a flat and rough surface model based on stereometric measurements, as well as by means of the finite element method (FEM). In a FEM method, a spherical structure of the surface layer was assumed and only one zone was taken into consideration, i.e. 0.4.Rt (maximum surface roughness). Zone structure allows easy changing of mechanical properties of material during the introduction of data defined by a strengthening curve in the plastic region. The possibility of expanding the model by consecutive zones allows taking into consideration the physical properties in complex analyses of the surface layer. This paper presents the problem of contact related to the alignment and fixing process, a model of contact deformations between a flat and a rough surface, as well as the algorithm for determining the model of a surface profile according to the bearing ratio curve.

Opis:: Elements of theory of divisibility are present in many various interesting mathematical tasks, especially in tasks that are addressed to talented pupils taking part in mathematical competitions. Good understanding of it lets solve very interesting and difficult (at first glance) issues. On the other hand, there are a lot of problems with understanding such terms as: multiple, divisor, divisibility, prime number, LCM, GCD etc. The purpose of the article is presenting the base terms of theory in the language understood for pupil of the gymnasium (3-rd educational level, 13-16 years old). In addition, we present some algorithms that are used to solve problems from the theory of divisibility and we discuss the influence the choice of the algorithm on its effectiveness (so we analyse its complexity). Presented algorithms let us create computer programs that solve the problems mechanically. We also enlarge a bit some topics for those ones which can be taught in the class of pupils which are interested in Mathematics.

Opis:: In this paper, a method of hybrid modelling of machine's mechanic structure together with mechatronic cooling system of its body is presented. In this method, a FEM model, traditionally used for thermal analyses of machine's thermal behaviour, has been integrated with mechatronic model of cooling system, implemented in MATLAB. In such way, a hybrid model has been created, allowing to simulate the control of machine body cooling process. Applied simulation of cooling the region of body, adjacent to the guide, illustrates the possibility of controlling the temperature in chosen points of the machine tool, in transient state, which would ensure minimal body deformations, small enough not to require compensation, which is generally hard and of limited precision. Thermal model of machine tool has been built with the use of SATO system [1]. In this work, time-domain temperature changes with and without the use of regulation by means of PID regulator have been compared. Results of the simulation show the usefulness of presented hybrid modelling method for the improvement of machine tool thermal behaviour.

Opis:: The paper presents causes of excessive precision distortions, appearing in electrospindles of HSC machining centres. The influence of changing ambient temperature is shown, as well as the precision of its modelling. Phenomena, which appear in the electrospindle unit during large rotational speed changes, have been presented and the functioning of bearing loading sleeve has been shown, which has the task of compensating thermal expansions of a spindle. Conditions of proper functioning of the sleeve have been presented, which should assure minimal displacements of a spindle. Also, possibilities of increasing bearing life span have been pointed out.

Opis:: The most important tendencies in the development of modern machine tools are pointed out, including the improvement of their design and development of error compensation methods. An overview of the most popular and useful error compensation methods for machine tools is presented. Based on examples, the effectiveness and limitations of each method are discussed. An integrated 5-axis machine tool behaviour model is presented, which assists in the elaboration of an error model required for the compensation purposes.

Opis:: The two-state spinless Falicov-Kimball model on a one-dimensional lattice is studied by means of well-controlled numerical procedures. Restricted phase diagrams in the grand-canonical ensemble and at zero temperature are constructed. The evolution of these phase diagrams, as the interaction parameter U is varied, including the band structures corresponding to configurations of localized particles (ions) and densities of mobile particles (electrons), is monitored. The changes observed enable us to draw conclusions for the global structure of the phase diagram and to make a qualitative plot of such a diagram. Particular attention is paid to the possibility of conductor-insulator transitions. The results obtained suggest that the system is an insulator for all U only if the electron and ion densities ρ$\text{}_{e}$,ρ$\text{}_{i}$ satisfy the conditions: ρ$\text{}_{e}$ + ρ$\text{}_{i}$ = 1, |ρ$\text{}_{i}$ - 1/2| ≤ δ < 1/2. For all other pairs (ρ$\text{}_{e}$,ρ$\text{}_{i}$) there is a critical U at which the system undergoes a conductor-insulator transition.
