Opis:
The use of diamond as material for X-ray detector is subject of investigation and practice in radiotherapy, space and material science and technology. This paper presents the results of application of Monte Carlo method for simulation of photon transport through diamond detector. The aim is restitution and demonstrating of numerical technique for characterization of electrical properties for different detector conditions and configurations. Monte Carlo code was adopted to determine the energy deposited and dose distribution in the structure of diamond detector. Our results show that the use of numerical simulations may be of essential help in design of diamond detector systems.

Opis:
Radiation sensing MOSFETs have found numerous applications as detectors or device components in radiation fields used in nuclear industry, medical applications and space research. Monte Carlo simulations of MOSFET energy response to X-ray and gamma radiation for different packaging were performed. The photon transport Monte Carlo software FOTELP-2K10 has been adapted to obtain the energy deposited in MOSFET structure with microscopic dimensions. In this work the ratio between values of total energy deposited in the sensitive volume (thick $SiO_2$ layer) for cases of MOSFET structure with and without package lid is presented. For this purpose is defined the shielding energy dependence factor (SDEF), and gave its value for kovar and Ti-24Al-11Nb and Ti-13Nb-13Zr alloys as lid materials.

Nuclear facilities as nuclear power stations, nuclear research reactors, particle accelerators and linear accelerator in medical institution using concrete in building construction. The different type materials of the aggregate as component of concrete were analyzed to provide radiation protection. The energy deposited the transmission factor and the mass attenuation coefficients in ordinary and barite concretes have been calculated with the photon transport Monte Carlo software. The numerical simulations results show that using barite as an aggregate in the concrete is one of the solutions for gamma ray shielding. Thereat, it is shown non-destructive method for determining the gamma radiation absorption characteristics of concrete.

Opis:
This work presents a characterization of radiation absorption properties of silicon carbide (SiC) as semiconductor for the realization of detectors for X-rays. SiC detectors can potentially reach superior performance with respect to all the other semiconductors presently employed in hazardous environments in nuclear and space science and technology. Physics and numerical modeling of photons transport through SiC detector is incorporated in non-destructive Monte Carlo method for determining the energy deposited and dose distribution. The Monte Carlo code has been adopted for numerical simulations for different detector conditions and configurations. The X-ray characterization of new SiC structures originates the improving of design of these detector systems.

Opis:
Titanium alloys have found numerous applications in space research, and nuclear industry and research. Since X-rays constitute an important part of the space radiation environment, numerical simulations of radiation absorption characteristics of titanium alloys were studied in this paper. The photon transport Monte Carlo software was used for determining the energy deposited in titanium samples. The numerical results show the pronounced dependence of radiation absorption properties of different combinations of components in alloy. The results obtained are encouraging in respect of optimization of structure of alloys regarding their required features in radiation shielding.

Opis:
The purpose of this study was to investigate soleus muscle activation during different phases of drop jump performed at submaximal levels of volitional effort and drop height magnitude. Methods: Fifteen professional volleyball players with minimum of eight years of experience in jumping activities participated in the study. Experimental protocol involved executing submaximal drop jumps at three levels of volitional effort (i.e., 65, 80 and 95% of the maximal height of jump). All submaximal drop jumps were done from three drop heights (20, 40 and 60 cm). The soleus muscle activation was monitored during four jump phases: pre-activation phase before touchdown, early contact phase upon touchdown, early and late push-off phase. Results: The results indicate that volitional effort level did not change the muscle activation during pre activation and early contact phase, but only in early and late push-off phase ( p ≤ 0.05). Conversely, it was observed that muscle activation during all phases of drop jump was adapted to the increased intensity of the external load caused by increasing of drop height magnitude ( p ≤ 0.01). Conclusions: The findings of the present study suggested that soleus muscle activation has selective responses to internal load (i.e., volitional effort level) and external load (i.e., drop height magnitude) intensities when drop jump is executing with submaximal effort.

Opis:
Understanding leg and joint stiffness adjustment during maximum hopping may provide important information for developing more effective training methods. It has been reported that ankle stiffness has major influence on stable spring-mass dynamics during submaximal hopping, and that knee stiffness is a major determinant for hopping performance during maximal hopping task. Furthermore, there are no reports on how the height of the previous hop could affect overall stiffness modulation of the subsequent maximum one. The purpose of the present study was to determine whether and how the jump height of the previous hop affects leg and joint stiffness for subsequent maximum hop. Ten participants completed trials in which they repeatedly hopped as high as possible (MX task) and trials in which they were instructed to perform several maximum hops with 3 preferred (optimal) height hops between each of them (P3MX task). Both hopping tasks were performed at 2.2 Hz hopping frequency and at the participant's preferred (freely chosen) frequency as well. By comparing results of those hopping tasks, we found that ankle stiffness at 2.2 Hz (p=0.041) and knee stiffness at preferred frequency (p=0.045) was significantly greater for MX versus P3MX tasks. Leg stiffness for 2.2 Hz hopping is greater than for the preferred frequency. Ankle stiffness is greater for 2.2 Hz than for preferred frequencies; opposite stands for knee stiffness. The results of this study suggest that preparatory hop height can be considered as an important factor for modulation of maximum hop.

Opis:
This paper deals with the problem of defining the optimal procedure for reparation of the machine parts of large dimensions and complex shapes. The procedure consists of establishing the causes of the part's damages, definition of the reparation technology, with selection of its parameters and ways of execution. The reparation is done by hard-facing, with heat treatment that consists of preheating, additional heating and the post hard-facing tempering. The process parameters' selection includes choosing the right filler metal(s), ways and order of depositing the hard-faced layers, ways of reaching and maintaining the preheating temperatures, checking of the base metal's chemical composition and mechanical properties and deciding on the post-process heat and mechanical processing of the executed hard-facing. The executed reparation of the forging hammer's mallet, presented in details, serves as an example how the reparation can successfully serve as a substitute for procuring the new part and thus producing the savings both directly in lower costs and indirectly in shortening the down-time of the damaged part operation.
