    The aim of this paper is to present the economic, social, political and moral causes and effects of the Greek debt crisis. The debt and deficit figures for Greece are presented. The causes of the crisis are: (a) corruption, (b) tax evasion and deposit of the stolen money in tax heavens (c) inefficiency of the public sector, (d) absence of transparency practices in the system of justice, in the areas of health, education, defense and labor, (e) excessive consumption habits of the Greeks, (f) lack of entrepreneurial and innovative spirit among the Greeks, (g) excessive debt and non-permissible budget deficit. The consequences are: (a) unemployment, (b) poverty, (c) social exclusion, (d) rising inequalities as it is shown by original research on Gini coefficient, (e) homelessness, (f) health problems, (g) rising suicide rate. Future prospects are: possible exclusion of Greece from Eurozone because of inability to repay debt and to reduce deficit.

    Opis:
    Working capital represents the amount of funds invested in firms' current assets. Optimizing working capital management is a challenge and a necessity for firms especially today due to the demand volatility and limit access to bank credit. This paper investigates the relationship between working capital management and firms' performance in small and medium enterprises in Greece. The results suggests that an effective working capital management is a necessary component of firm's future growth and profitability. The analysis used data for a sample of 459 small and medium enterprises for the period from 2008 to 2012. The paper is organized as follows: in the next section we briefly present the problem based on literature review. This is followed by the presentation of research methodology and the data sources used in the analysis. The results are presented and discussed in section three. Last section summarizes the conclusions and presents further opportunities for research.

    In the new globalization era banks face an increasingly competitive environment, replete with threats from non-banking institutions operating under different kinds of regulations. Changing circumstances provide for banks opportunities as well as challenges. One aspect of the competitive challenges faced by retail banks lies in the management of human resources. The aim of the present paper is to investigate the problem of job satisfaction based on the results of research conducted in the Greek banking sector. Multiple theoretical frameworks regarding motivation and job satisfaction are used as the theoretical guide. The author examines the effect of individual attributes, job characteristics and organizational variable on job satisfaction. In the second part of the paper the study investigates the interaction effect of job satisfaction and work motivation and productivity. Responses gathered by means of a questionnaire survey from Greek banks were generated and analyzed using correlation analysis.

    This paper presents the causes of the global financial crisis and critically discusses the Greek debt crisis. We argue that the crisis is the result of deterioration of Greek macroeconomic characteristics to levels inconsistent with long- term EMU participation. We also argue that without extensive structural reforms the sustainability of the European Monetary Union is in question. We suggest that the European leaders should take initiatives to create mechanisms to address the debt crisis, to improve surveillance for the implementation of fiscal rules and to strengthen economic cooperation between countries in order to raise funds that may cover the short-termneeds of countries facing sovereign debt crisis.

    Głównym celem artykułu jest ocena zmian w pozycji greckiego sektora bankowego w okresie kryzysu i zidentyfikowanie głównych problemów oraz perspektyw dla tego sektora. W analizie zostały wykorzystane dane statystyczne i dane ze sprawozdań finansowych czterech największych banków komercyjnych Grecji. Badania oparte są na metodologii CAMELS. Artykuł zorganizowany jest w sposób następujący: po wprowadzeniu zaprezentowano analizę sytuacji makroekonomicznej Grecji i dokonano przeglądu zmian w strukturze greckiego sektora bankowego. W kolejnej części autorzy koncentrują się na omówieniu metodologii badań i źródeł danych wykorzystanych w analizie. Następnie przedstawiają i omawiają wyniki badań oraz ich analizę. Ostatnia część opracowania zawiera wnioski z badań, wskazuje na ich ograniczenia, jak też możliwości ich wzbogacenia i rozwijania.
    The main objective of this study is to examine the performance of Greek banking sector and to identify the main problems and prospects of Greek banks. The analysis used the data from financial statements and statistical materials of four biggest commercial banks in Greece. The main methodology is CAMELS model. The paper is organized as follows: after the introduction, we briefly present the macroeconomic situation and the evolution of banking sector structure in Greece. This is followed by the presentation of research methodology and the data sources used in the analysis. The results are presented and discussed in next section. We conclude with study limitations and further opportunities for research.

    Many proposals favouring cash abolition have emerged over the past few years. Their economic and social impact has not yet been analysed in depth. This paper aims to present the evolution of the means of payment during the last decades and to analyse the issue of cash abolition in European economies. The creation of a cashless economy would bring benefits, such as efficiency increase, as well as problems: the disturbance of money supply, instability of the foreign exchange rate, and so on. The paper discusses the reasons and arguments expressed by supporters and opponents of cash abolition and focuses on possible consequences, from the economic point of view. The advantages, disadvantages, benefits and costs associated with the possibility of removing cash from the economy are also described. Finally, a possible scenario for the future is analysed.
