Opis:
Umbilical hernia is one of the most common problems in young calves. This problem occurs in dairy sector as well as in the local farmers. Present study was conducted to compare outcomes of four different techniques of herniorrhaphy. Twenty four young calves (n=24) were divided in 4 groups (A, B, C, and D) which underwent four different surgical techniques. Group A underwent vicryl plus suture material and pants-over-west technique, Group B underwent mesh application with Dexon suture material by using simple interrupted suture pattern, Group C underwent closed method with Nylon No. 3 suture material by using vertical mattress suture pattern and Group D underwent clamp application method with Silk No. 2 suture material by using simple interrupted suture pattern. The result showed that mesh application method was comparatively better with respect to feed intake, body weight gain and healing time. There was no reoccurrence with non-significant hematological changes (p≤0.05). It is concluded that mesh application method is safer than other three techniques and there are no systemic effects of this surgical intervention on calves’ health.

Opis:
The unsteady laminar boundary layer characteristics of mixed convection flow past a vertical wedge have been investigated numerically. The free-stream velocity and surface temperature are assumed to be oscillating in the magnitude but not in the direction of the oncoming flow velocity. The governing equations have been solved by two distinct methods, namely, the straightforward finite difference method for the entire frequency range, and the extended series solution for low frequency range and the asymptotic series expansion method for high frequency range. The results demonstrate the effects of the Richardson number, Ri, introduced to quantify the influence of mixed convection and the Prandtl number, Pr, on the amplitudes and phase angles of the skin friction and heat transfer. In addition, the effects of these parameters are examined in terms of the transient skin friction and heat transfer.

Opis:
This research focuses on the effect of nanomaterials on the physical properties of a local Iraqi lubricant oil (20W-50), which is widely used in diesel engines. The concentrations of 0.001, 0.2 and 0.5 wt% of Al2O3 NPs and CNT are dispersed in the oil with the help of a suitable surfactant using a magnetic stirrer and a sonication process. The density, surface tension, dynamic viscosity, kinematic viscosity, flash point, fire point, pour point, thermal conductivity, thermal images, wear and the coefficient of friction of the oil with and without nanomaterials are tested. The results were shown that the higher concentrations of NPs, the better properties for the engine oil. The density for Al2O3 nanooil indicates a small change at 0.001 and 0.2 wt%, and a decrease at 0.5 wt% ratio. Also, the density of CNT oil shows a slight change at 0.001and then decreasing at 0.2 and 0.5 ratios. In addition, the surface tension of both nanooils are increased. The dynamic viscosity slightly change with an addition of the NPs especially at 20°C and 30°C. Also, there is a convergence in the viscosity values between base and nanooils at 40°C and 50°C. Also, the dynamic viscosity indicates shear thickening behavior at low shear rate, while in the high shear rate the viscosity attempts to be more stable. The kinematic viscosity increases with an increased concentration of the NPs at 40°C and 100°C for both nanooils. The flash and fire point are increasing for both nanooils and Al2O3 nanooil indicates a lower pour point than that of CNT oil. CNT oil indicates higher dissipating heat friction and thermal conductivity than that of Al2O3 nanooil. Thermal images are supported by thermal conductivity and flash point behavior, while the tribology tests are compatible with viscosity behavior. A significant reduction in the coefficient of friction and wear loss is produced for both nanooils.

The yield and composition of pyrolysis products depend on the characteristics of feed stock and process operating parameters. Effect of particle size, reaction temperature and carrier gas flow rate on the yield of bio-oil from fast pyrolysis of Pakistani maize stalk was investigated. Pyrolysis experiments were performed at temperature range of 360-540°C, feed particle size of 1-2 mm and carrier gas flow rate of 7.0-13.0 m3/h (0.61.1 m/s superficial velocity). Bio-oil yield increased with the increase of temperature followed by a decreasing trend. The maximum yield of bio-oil obtained was 42 wt% at a temperature of 490°C with the particle size of around 1.0 mm and carrier gas flow rate of 11.0 m3/h (0.9 m/s superficial velocity). High temperatures resulted in the higher ratios of char and non-condensable gas.

Opis:
A total of 96 indigenous Brassica rapa accessions were collected from different locations of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Simple Sequence Repeats (SSR) markers were used to identify the most diverse genotypes among the collected lots. Twenty six (26) different SSR primers were used for (genetic) variability among collected genotypes. These primers were selected from literature based on their previous results. These primers produced 135 scorable bands of which 75 were polymorphic, with an average of 55.5% polymorphic loci, and reflected the broader genetic background of the collected genotypes. An average 2.88 polymorphic bands with an average PIC value of 0.49 was recorded. Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic Mean (UPGMA) divided all genotypes into three main groups. Group one contained three clusters, while group two and three had four and two clusters each. Based on the UPGMA dendrogram, genotypes collected from Kohat, Bannu, Swat and Haripur showed considerable amount of variation. From the present study, it is concluded that SSR markers can be proved as the best tool for the genetic variability of other local and exotic B. rapa genotypes.

Opis:
Sweet orange fruits were exposed to vapor heat treatment (50°C) in water bath for 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 min in plastic covered structure. The data were recorded on different physico chemical factors immediately after the storage and after seven days simulated marketing under ambient condition (20°C). Low temperature storage enhanced weight loss, surface pitting, disease incidence, total soluble solids accumulation, TSS/Acid ratio but decreased reducing sugars, acidity and ascorbic acid content. Chilling exposure up to 45 days had no significant effect on weight loss and TSS. However, increased weight loss (2.63%), TSS (11.75), TSS/Acid ratio (8.45 ºBrix), disease incidence (8.93%) and lowest reducing sugars (3.90) were noted in sweet orange exposed to chilling temperature for 75 days. Among the VHT durations, the highest weight loss (2.29%) was found in VHT for 0 min while the highest TSS (11.81 ºBrix), TSS/Acid ratio (8.10) and disease incidence (6.22%) and least reducing sugars (4.12%) were found in VHT 20 for min. Vapor heat treatment ranging from 5–10 min resulted in lowest weight loss (1.79%), TSS (10.81 ºBrix) TSS/Acid ratio (7.33), disease incidence (1.00%) and highest reducing sugars (4.75%) in sweet orange fruits. However, non-reducing sugars were least affected by both LTSs and VHTs. It is concluded that the chilling exposure (5°C) beyond 45 days aggravated the decline of fruit physio-chemical quality characteristics. Whereas, VHT with 5–10 min maintained the sweet orange fruit quality during simulated marketing; however, VHT of 15–20 min adversely affected the sweet orange fruit quality attributes.

Opis:
In order to understand travellers’ willingness to use the train in Petaling Jaya, this study adds four predictors - situational factors, trust, novelty seeking and external influence - to the existing model of theory of planned behaviour (TPB). The study collected research data from employees in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, resulting in valuable data of 400 participants. Results indicate that attitude, perceived behavioural control, and subjective norm are found to have positive effects on the behavioural intention of taking the train. Furthermore, novelty seeking and external influence also have positive influences on attitude. While the three antecedents of trust were found to have an indirect positive effect on commuters’ intention to take the train via attitude, subjective norm and PBC. Situational factors were found to have an indirect negative significant influence on people’s intention to take the train through perceived behavioural control.

Opis:
This paper examines firms’ target adjustment behavior for debt maturity structure for selected countries from the Asia Pacific region. The literature documents that managers’ structure debt issues in line with a target maturity structure which is limited by transactions costs, information asymmetry, agency problems, liquidity needs as well as institutional factors. Our paper contends that firms adjust to target levels at differing rates based on whether the current maturity structure is above or below target levels as well as equity mispricing. We estimate the target debt maturity based on the lead level and measure speed of adjustment to target levels by regressing the difference between the simulated and actual values. Our findings indicate that firms which are below target debt maturity tend to adjust at more rapid rates during periods of overvaluation. Firms which are above target debt maturity tend to adjust at more rapid rates during periods of undervaluation. Our findings indicate asymmetric adjustment rates indicating that debt maturity structure serves as an important tool for signaling. The implications provide a better understanding on the impact of debt maturity on information asymmetry leading to differences in adjustment to target debt maturity structures.
Implikacje te zapewniają lepsze zrozumienie wpływu dojrzałości długu na asymetrię informacyjną prowadzącą do różnic w dostosowaniu do docelowych struktur zapadalności długu.

Introduction: Medicinal plants are found throughout the world but most are considered weeds. They are – directly or indirectly – the major source of medicines in pharmaceutical and herbal industries. Formulations used to prepare medicines or the method of use for these plants are mainly based on folk or traditional knowledge. This folk knowledge is not documented in many areas and needs to be explored. Objectives: This study was aimed to enlist the seasonal weed species with traditional medicinal usage in Toba Tek Singh District, Punjab, Pakistan. Methods: Field surveys were arranged in winter and summer 2019–2020 to enlist the important medicinal weeds and traditional knowledge of the local community. Data collected were as follows: local name of weed, medicinal use, method and part used. Results: Numerous wild perennial, biennial and annual plants were identified, 30 of them were ethnomedicinally important in the local community. They were grouped in 16 families. It was found that whole weed is used in many prescriptions (37%). Achyranthes aspera L. (Amaranthaceae) was the most common weed used in treating fevers, respiratory problems and asthma. Cichorium intybus L. (Asteraceae) was used in summer drinks to reduce thirst, improve digestion and liver function. Chenopodium album L. (Amaranthaceae) was used with 0.71 UV and 0.147 RFC values. Medicago polymorpha L. (Fabaceae) was used to treat kidney, intestinal and bladder infections. Its UV was 0.65 and RFC was 0.121. Tribulus terrestris L. (Zygophyllaceae) was used in impotency treatment, and in the removal of kidney stones and urinary tract infections treatment. It has 0.63 UV and 0.21 RFC values. This weed also showed the highest Fidelity Level (FL) (77%), as compared to other weeds. Conclusion: It was concluded that there are many significant medicinal weeds in the Toba Tek Singh District, Punjab, Pakistan that are used in traditional medicines in treating various disorders. These plants also showed herbal or pharmacological importance that can be used to develop medicine at commercial scale.
