Opis:
This paper deals with evaluation the lower extremity efficiency and balance in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. Own authors test (LLFT-lower extremities functional test) and balance tests during normal standing and tandem positions with eyes opened or closed were used. Twelve patients with RA and fifteen controls for comparison were examined. Center feet of pressure dislocation on platform in normal standing with eyes open, normal standing with eyes closed, tandem left foot in front and tandem right foot in front positions and further dynamic balance tests on three different boards were analyzed. Visual Analogue Scale monitored level of pain after each LLFT task. There was found a relation between intensity of pain and overloading of joints in particular tasks, resulting in lower extremities dysfunction. Significant disbalance in medio-lateral direction during normal standing with eyes closed and tandem right foot in front positions and also in anterior-posterior direction in tandem right foot in front position during static balance tests was found. Correlations showed that patient’s age, disease’s duration and Steinbrocker Functional Classes have an influence on parameters of balance tests. Results indicate that complex dysfunction of lower extremities causes disbalance of posture in static conditions.

Opis:
An application of the Entropy Generation Minimization principle allows new formulation of the boundary and initial boundaryvalue problems. Applying Euler-Lagrange variational formalism new mathematical form of heat conduction equation describing steady-state processes have been derived. Mathematical method presented in the paper can also be used for any diffusion heat and mass transfer process. Linear and non-linear problems with internal heat sources have been analyzed.

Opis:
Purpose: The appearance of pathology in the lumbar spine, such as a previous episode of low disc herniation or non-specific low back pain contributes to improper activation of the hip muscles. The aim of the study was to detect alterations in hip strategy manifested by differences in balance parameters and rectus femoris and gluteus maximus activity in people with previous episode of pain radiation to one lower limb caused by low disc herniation or non-specific low back pain. Methods: We studied 11 patients with history of low-disc herniation, 9 patients with history of non-specific low back pain and 10 healthy subjects. Hip strategy alterations were detected by measuring rectus femoris and gluteus maximus activity in bilateral surface polyelectromyographic recordings and by stability measurements on a balance platform. Results: In the surface polyelectromyography study, in both patients' group the value of the average amplitude was higher and the amount of the fluctuations was lower than in healthy subjects. There were no significant differences in stability parameters. Conclusions: A changed pattern of hip muscles activity was detected in the patients without changes in stability parameters. Greater disorder occurs in people in with previous episode of pain radiation to one lower limb caused by low disc herniation than in people with non-specific low back pain.

Opis:
We report recent advances in material characterization on the nanometer scale using scanning microwave microscopy. This combines atomic force microscopy and a vector network analyzer using microwave tip sample interaction to characterize dielectric and electronic material properties on the nanometer scale. We present the methods for calibration as well as applications. Scanning microwave microscopy features calibrated measurements of: (1) capacitance with attofarad sensitivity. For calibration a well characterized array of capacitors (0.1 fF to 10 fF) is used. The method is applied to determine the dielectric properties of thin organic films, (2) Semiconductor dopant density. Calibration is performed by imaging the cross-section of a standard sample with differently doped layers (dopant stair case) from $10^{16}$ atoms/$cm^3$ to $10^{20}$ atoms/$cm^3$.

Opis:
Testing of real driving emissions (RDE) with portable emission measuring system (PEMS) in an appropriate road circuit became an obligatory element of new type approval of passenger cars since September 2017. In several projects the Laboratory for Exhaust Emissions Control (AFHB) of the Berne University of Applied Sciences (BFH) performed comparisons on passenger cars with different PEMS’s on chassis dynamometer and on road, considering the quality and the correlations of results. Particle number measuring systems (PN PEMS) were also included in the tests. The present paper informs about influences of E85 on RDE on two flex-fuel-vehicles, discusses some aspects of different ways of evaluation with different programs, shows comparison of different types of PN PEMS and represents the effects of simulation of slope on the chassis dynamometer.

Opis:
Materials from joint endoprothesis are the source for particle induced reactions in the SLIM (Synovia Like Interface Membrane) which are relevant for endoprosthetic pathologies especially in aseptic prosthesis loosening. The identification of wear particles in the SLIM is due to the heterogeneity of implant materials, due to the complexity of particle genesis and its differential diagnosis to non prosthesis-material particles a great challenge for histopathologists. This “particle algorithm” is based on 1) conventional transmitted light microscopy with a guide to sizing, shaping and coloring 2) polarization optical criteria and 3) enzyme-histochemical properties (oil red O staining and Prussian blue reaction). Based on these criterias the complete spectrum of particles in the SLIM may be defined including non-ferrous metals and metal alloys, ferrous metals, wear particle corrosion, ceramic particles, bone cement (polymethyl methacrylate, PMMA) particles, PMMA additives such as X-ray contrast medium (zirconium dioxide or barium sulfate), and non-metallic and non-ceramic materials (polyethylene particles, carbon particles, silicon). The most relevant non prosthesis-material particles include calciumpyrophosphate, urate, calciumcar-bonates and hemosiderin. Since in principle all wear particles may exert inflammatory or immunological properties, the diagnosis of particle induced inflammatory or immunological reactions should be carried out in the context of the Consensus-Classification of the SLIM leading to a definite SLIM type classification. In respect of the particle heterogeneity an open web based “particle algorithme” would be helpful which could include all material particles in a rapid changing field of material science. For histopathological diagnosis a “particle score” for the SLIM is recommended evaluating 1) the predominant prosthesis-material particle type in respect to micro-, and macroparticles, 2) the existence of non prosthesis-material particles and 3) the quantification of particle induced necrosis and lymphocytosis.
