Opis:
Fenton reaction is an important method to remove NO from flue gas. • OH radicals generated in the Fenton reaction can effectively oxidize NO to NO2, which is absorbed and removed by alkali sorbent. To supply guidance for engineering research, numerical simulation of NO oxidation by • OH radical clusters in flue gas has been carried out using Fluent software. The average concentration of NO on the cross sections at various positions of a cylindrical pipe with a circular surface was calculated by simulation. Under various working conditions (temperature, • OH/NO molar ratio, NO concentration in flue gas, and jet velocity), NO oxidation efficiency by • OH radical was simulated and the key factors affecting NO oxidation were analyzed. The results show that temperature and • OH/NO molar ratio are the key factors affecting the oxidation of NO by • OH radicals. The injection velocity has also a significant effect on the oxidation efficiency while the moisture and oxygen content are minor factors influencing the process. The optimum oxidation efficiency of NO is obtained at 473–523 K, the molar ratio of • OH/NO ca. 1.4, the jet velocity 10 m/s, and the flue gas velocity of 3 m/s.

Opis:
The paper documents on the uses of traditional medicinal plants used for treating human ailments in three villages of Ledong, a county inhabited by Liethnic group in the southwest of Hainan Province, China. Semi-structured interviews, key informant interviews and participatory observations were used to collect ethnobotanical data from February to March 2012 and in July 2013. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Thirty native knowledgeable people were interviewed. The Li community uses 50 plant species in 36 families for medicinal purposes. The most common medicinal plant families were Leguminosae (14%), Compositae (6%), and Euphorbiaceae (6%), and the most common preparations methods were decoction (84%), crushing (38%), and poultice (34%). The traditional medicinal plants were mainly used for hemostasis (12.9%), body pains (11.4%), gastrointestinal disorders (11.4%), and trauma (10%). Twenty-four species of medicinal plants (48%) have never been reported in the literature of Li medicines. In addition, 22 species (44%) have already been studied by researchers and their extracts or compounds were good bioactives. However, the rapid socioeconomic development in the county is the main threat to the conservation of Li medicine and has resulted in the decrease in the abundance and use of medicinal plants and associated traditional knowledge. Other factors accounting for a decrease in the use of Li medicinal plants like loss of plant diversity, change of land use, and threatened traditional knowledge were equally discussed.

Opis:
This study aims to explore the effect of chemical element symbols in students’ identification of 2D chemical structural formulas. A chemical conceptual questionnaire, event-related potential experiments and interviews were administered to fifty university students in this study. The results revealed that high achieving students performed different brain activities and strategies to identify 2D figures (without chemical elements symbols inside) and 2D chemical structural formulas. However, low achieving students ignored the existence of chemical element symbols and performed similar brain activities and strategies when identifying 2D figures and chemical structural formulas. This paper discusses implications for new education.
