Opis:
The article presents main assumptions of the methodology of integrated modeling of hightemperature steel processing in the aspect of supporting the design of new technologies. The developed solution uses a methodological research capability of modern Gleeble thermomechanical simulators to simulate physical processes, and the benefits of numerical modeling. This allows for restricting the number of expensive experimental tests to the minimum, e.g. by selecting a suitable heating schedule to achieve the desired temperature at the sample section, or getting additional information about the process, eg. estimating the zones with diversified grain growth dynamics, information on local cooling rates at any point within the volume of the sample tested. Mathematical models are original solutions of the developed methodology, such as the thermomechanical model of steel deformation in the semi-solid state, and the multi-scale model of resistance heating coupled with grain growth modelling in the micro scale. The work is supplemented with the main assumptions of the developed mathematical models together with examples of their practical use to support physical simulations.

Opis:
The paper presents the results of work leading to the construction of a spatial hybrid model based on finite element (FE) and Monte Carlo (MC) methods allowing the computer simulation of physical phenomena accompanying the steel sample testing at temperatures that are characteristic for soft-reduction process. The proposed solution includes local density variations at the level of mechanical solution (the incompressibility condition was replaced with the condition of mass conservation), and at the same time simulates the grain growth in a comprehensive resistance heating process combined with a local remelting followed by free/controlled cooling of the sample tested. Simulation of grain growth in the entire computing domain would not be possible without the support of GPU processors. There was a 59-fold increase in the computing speed on the GPU compared to single-threaded computing on the CPU. The study was complemented by examples of experimental and computer simulation results, showing the correctness of the adopted model assumptions.

Opis:
Microalloying elements such as Ti, Nb, V, entered into steel they influence their microstructure and mechanical properties, because formation of carbonitrides, M(C, N). Influence of carbonitrides to the microstructure and mechanical properties depends on their basic stereological parameters: volume fraction, Vv, and their size, r. In this work the Cellular Automata model of the kinetics of the carbonitrides precipitation which enable to predict the image of the microstructure and calculate the size of carbonitrides formed during isothermal annealing of supersaturated steel is presented. In the high temperature the microalloying elements inhibit the austenite grains growth. Chemical composition of steel has influence to volume fraction and size of precipitations. The work is supplemented with examples of experimental comparison.

Opis:
Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) is a Lagrangian formula-based non-grid computational method for simulating fluid flows, solid deformation, and fluid structured systems. SPH is a method widely applied in many fields of science and engineering, especially in the field of materials science. It solves complex physical deformation and flow problems. This paper provides a basic overview of the application of the SPH method in metal processing. This is a very useful simulation method for reconstructing flow patterns, solidification, and predicting defects, limitations, or material destruction that occur during deformation. The main purpose of this review article is to give readers better understanding of the SPH method and show its strengths and weaknesses. Studying and promoting the advantages and overcoming the shortcomings of the SPH method will help making great strides in simulation modeling techniques. It can be effectively applied in training as well as for industrial purposes.

Opis:
The paper presents the methodology of designing a system for accumulating waste heat from industrial processes. The research aimed to analyse the fluid’s movement in the heat accumulator to unify the temperature field in the volume of water constituting the heat buffer. Using the computer program Ansys Fluent, a series of computational fluid dynamics simulations of the process of charging the heat storage with water at 60◦C, 70◦C, and 80◦C was carried out. The selected temperatures correspond to the temperature range of unmanaged waste heat. In the presented solution, heat storage is loaded with water from the cooling systems of industrial equipment to store excess heat and use it at a later time. The results of numerical calculations were used to analyse the velocity and temperature fields in the selected structure of the modular heat storage. A novelty in the presented solution is the use of smaller modular heat storage units that allow any configuration of the heat storage system. This solution makes it possible to create heat storage with the required heat capacity.

Opis:
This paper identifies and describes the parameters of a numerical model generating the microstructure in the integrated heating-remelting-cooling process of steel specimens. The numerical model allows the heating-remelting-cooling process to be simulated comprehensively. The model is based on the Monte Carlo (MC) method and the finite element method (FEM), and works within the entire volume of the steel sample, contrary to previous studies, in which calculations were carried out for selected, relatively small areas. Experimental studies constituting the basis for the identification and description of model parameters such as: probability function, initial number of orientations, number of cells and number of MC steps were carried out using the Gleeble 3800 thermo-mechanical simulator. The use of GPU capabilities improved the performance of the numerical model and significantly reduced the simulation time. Thanks to the significant acceleration of simulation times, it became possible to comprehensively implement a numerical model of the heating-transformation-cooling process in the entire volume of the test sample. The paper is supplemented by results of performance tests of the numerical model and results of simulation tests.

Opis:
This paper presents an innovative solution in the form of a virtual reality (VR) and high performance computing (HPC) system dedicated to aid designing rotary forming processes with laser beam reheating the material formed. The invented method allowing a virtual machine copy to be coupled with its actual counterpart and a computing engine utilizing GPU processors of graphic NVidia cards to accelerate computing are discussed. The completed experiments and simulations of the 316L stainless steel semi-product spinning process showed that the developed VR-HPC system solution allows the manufacturing process to be effectively engineered and controlled in industrial conditions.
