Opis:
A few distinctive bryozoan assemblages have been recognized in the Middle and Upper Jurassic sediments of southern Poland. The biota moderately rich in bryozoan taxa are generally restricted to a few cyclostome genera and dominated respectively by tubuloporines among which the majority form a fan-shaped or discoidal [bereniciform], encrusting colonies previously called "Berenieca", a bryozoan ubiquitous in the Jurassic. The Lower and Upper Callovian epifaunal bryozoan community of the vicinity of Cracow at Zalas in the Cracow Upland is represented by well-known Jurassic Stomatopora Bronn, Hyporosopora Canu & Bassler and Microeciella Taylor & Sequeiros, genera, as well as the other undeterminated, numerous bereniciform colonies. In terms of the species richness the most diversified is the Early Oxfordian bryozoan assemblage of the Ćmielów area [NW margin of the Holy Cross Mts], associated with an open shelf biohermal sedimentation, which was replaced later [during the transversarium and bifurcatues zones] by the shallow-water, soft-bottom coral buildups, among which the bryozoans are well-represented and described from Bałtów. The presence of the ?Late Tithonian–Berriasian bryozoan fauna has been documented in the thin-sections of the Stramberk limestones of the Polish Flysch Carpathians. Palaeoecological aspects of the studied bryozoan biotas are related to the nature and relative abundance of the colonial growth forms, the substrate type and other ecological factors. The moderately rich occurrence of the bryozoans in the Late Middle and Upper Jurassic sequences of Poland shows a different pattern of distribution than the biotas of the northwestern Europe which display the greatest species diversity in the Middle Jurassic [Bathonian]. The taxonomical and biogeographical studies of the Jurassic bryozoan biotas of Poland, in spite of the great patchiness in the global distribution of the Jurassic cyclostomes, has a key significance for the evolutionary radiation pattern and may add new data, whether this fauna originated and started to radiate in the Late Middle or the Upper Jurassic, or this event was mostly connected with the facies migration from west to east.

Opis:
Moundlike, globular to hemispherical bryozoan colonies of Celleporina medoborensis sp. nov. are documented from the calcareous organodetrital, slightly marly facies of the Lower Sarmatian (Volhynian) serpulid-microbialite reefs, in the Polupanivka and Ditkivtsi quarries (Medobory Hills), located at the northeastern margin of the Carpathian Foreland Basin (Central Paratethys) in western Ukraine. The colonies of C. medoborensis are multilamellar, often with a subcircular hole and occur together with numerous cyclostome bryozoans (crisiids, tubuliporinids, branching colonies of entalophoroids) as well as schizoporellid and cryptosulid cheilostomes, accompanied by a few macro- and micro-fossil taxa. The combination of morphological characters such as: thick radial ribs in the pseudoporous, variably-shaped area of the ovicell, and one or two small adventitious oral, as well as large vicarious avicularia are the main characteristic features of species. The rich occurrence of the celleporiform colonies of C. medoborensis sp. nov. within the fine-grained calcareous sands of Polupanivka and Ditkivtsi suggests a shallow-water setting and high availability of soft substrates, probably dominated by calcareous algae upon which the bryozoans may have settled in the Medobory reef biota during the Early Sarmatian.

Opis:
A recently investigated Zechstein Limestone (Ca1, Wuchiapingian) bryozoan fauna from the Polish part of the Southern Permian Basin (SW Poland) is dominated volumetrically and taxonomically by fenestellids. In total six species from five genera are recognized, comprising two species of trepostomes belonging to Dyscritella Girty, 1911 and four fenestellids attributed to Kingopora Morozova, 1970, Kalvariella Morozova, 1970, Acanthocladia King, 1849 and Spinofenestella Termier and Termier, 1971. The greatest biodiversity of the bryozoans in the Ca1 profiles studied is within the slope facies where large, fan-shaped and funnel-shaped reticulate fenestellid colonies up to 10 cm high dominate. In contrast, bryozoans in the marginal (proximal) parts of the basin mostly comprise trepostomes, represented by encrusting plate-like or coil-shaped colonies of Dyscritella Girty, and commonly broken branched colonies of Acanthocladia King. The changes in the biotic composition of the bryozoans and the presence of a dominant colony growth form in the stratigraphical profile of the Ca1 reflect the depositional environment and water energy. These factors stimulate the successive stages of the development of the biota and their settlement, marked by the rich productid-fenestellid assemblages typical of the offshore setting, with the maximum depth in the middle part of the Ca1 in the Grodziec Syncline. The proximal tempestites and foreshore facies of the upper part of the Ca1 (Leszczyna Syncline) terminate the sedimentary cycle of the Ca1, with the remnant, broken bryozoans of Acanthocladia and fenestellids. The relationship between the taxonomic composition, colony growth-patterns, associated biota, and sedimentary structures points to slow sedimentation rate on slope and basin floor of the Ca1 carbonate platform. The fenestellids which are dominated in the studied biota by the reticulate and pinnate colonies of Spinofenestella, Kingopora, Kalvariella and Acanthocladia mark a close palaeogeographical link with the Zechstein (Ca1) bryozoans of Great Britain, Germany and the southern Baltic region.

Opis:
The trepostome bryozoan Dyscritella microstoma Ernst, 2001 is reported for the first time from the Zechstein Main Dolomite (Ca2) of Poland and Germany. This species has been previously recognized in the older fossiliferous Zechstein Lime stone (Ca1) of the North Sudetic Basin (Poland) and in the northern part of Germany. The Polish specimens derive from a few boreholes located in the Pomerania region and in the Wolsztyn High, both in the western part of Poland. The German material comes from a borehole on Rügen Island in North eastern Germany. The present paper deals with the taxonomic description of D. microstoma and its distribution in the Main Dolomite deposits.

Opis:
Early to Late Eocene bryozoans from the La Meseta Formation of Seymour Island were collected at two localities within the Cucullaea I Allomember (Telm4 and Telm5) on the northwestern side of the island and in two localities within the Submeseta Allomember (Telm6 and Telm7) on the northeastern side. This fauna is represented by cyclostomes of the suborders Tubuliporina and Cerioporina and suborders of Neocheilostomata, among which nine species have been recognized. The following new species are introduced: Micropora nordenskjoeldi sp. nov., Lunulites marambionis sp. nov., Otionellina antarctica sp. nov. and Otionellina eocenica sp. nov. Some other taxa recognized in the studied material, such as Reticrescis plicatus, Uharella seymourensis and Celleporaria mesetaensis, were previously described from the lowermost (Telm1) or uppermost parts (Telm6-7), thus their stratigraphical ranges within the La Meseta Formation are extended. The diverse growth-forms of the bryozoans include a sole ball-shaped celleporiform colony and reticulated and bilamellar-foliaceous colony, as well as rich encrusting and free-living forms (so-called sand faunas), indicating the existence of locally restricted shallow-marine environments. This is particularly true in the middle and upper parts of the La Meseta Formation (Telm4-7). Reticulated, spheroidal and robust, branched colonies, which thrived in the environmental conditions of the lower part (Telm1), are represented only by a sparse bryozoan biota in the upper part of the La Meseta Formation. Lunulitiforms, such as Lunulites and Otionellina which are warm water, free-living bryozoans, dominate in the siliciclastic sediments of Telm5, but erect folded sheets forming a shell bed composed of ?Goodonia occur in Telm6-7. These three genera are recognized in Antarctica for the first time. The austral genus Otionellina has its earliest fossil record here, showing close biogeographical links with the Late Eocene-Miocene faunas of Australia and New Zealand. The taxonomic composition of the studied fauna together with their growth forms is a very good tool for reconstructing palaeoenvironmental conditions in the middle and upper parts (Telm4-7) of the La Meseta Formation, deposited during the Late Ypresian-Priabonian.

Opis:
The unique Middle Miocene reef belt formed within the Paratethyan realm constitutes at present the Medobory Hills in western Ukraine and northernmost Moldova. Not only is the size of this structure (almost 300 km long) quite unusual, but also the development of peculiar facies and their spatial distribution. Two distinct reef generations appear in Medobory (Late Badenian and Early Sarmatian), both separated by a sharp erosional boundary. Two Upper Badenian calcareous lithofacies dominate – organodetrital and biohermal (with coralline-algae as main framework builders accompanied by a rich invertebrate assemblage). The Lower Sarmatian strata, although megascopically very similar to Upper Badenian ones, differ drastically when studied closely. The main reef components here are serpulids and microbialites, usually with ubiquitous, but taxonomically highly impoverished fauna. Differences in lithofacies and biotic communities between both reef systems unveil open-marine environment during formation of Upper Badenian reefs and a drastic change of conditions at the Badenian/Sarmatian boundary (including emersion and intense weathering). The Early Sarmatian basin was established soon after and highly restricted conditions prevailed in it (e.g. with mesohaline waters and intense evaporation occurring simultaneously); its deposits are the last record of Middle Miocene sedimentation within the Medobory area.
Wśród wapiennych osadów górnego badenu dominują litofacje organodetrytyczne i biohermalne.
