Opis:
Surface charging and particles aggregation ascharite are investigated through Zeta potential measurement, XPS analysis, SEM analysis and dissolution experiments. The results show that more Mg2+ are removed from ascharite surface after dissolution, which confirms that incongruent dissolution of ions in the case of certain ionic substances like rmagnesium ions, hydroxyl groups and borate ions can lead to a net charge on surface. Isomorphous substitution of Fe3+ for Mg2+ is also regarded as one factor that causes surface charging behavior, which is in consistent with the experimental data. The dissolution process is analyzed to show more details about the dissolution reactions. The disparity in the bonding energy of B–O and Mg–OH surface groups and the difference in free energy of hydration of surface groups are considered to be the basic reason that lead to incongruent dissolution. Eventually, the effect of surface potential on particles aggregation is analyzed by DLVO theory, indicating that dissolution of ascharite has a detrimental effect on particles dispersion.

Opis:
The comminution process and mechanism of low-grade hematite ore in a high pressure grinding roll (HPGR) were investigated in this work. Three different methods were used for comminution of the hematite ore: HPGR with an air classifier, HPGR with screening followed by ball milling (HPGR+BM), and cone crushing with screening followed by ball milling (CC+BM). In addition, the effects of comminution methods on the degree of liberation of minerals in the grinding products were compared. The results suggest that the comminution process of the ore can be divided into four stages: appearance of tiny cracks, expansion of tiny cracks, which eventually form microcosmic cracks, development of principle cracks, and generation of the conjugate fracturing zone. Intergranular cracks, including partial intergranular cracks and complete intergranular cracks, are apparent in the comminution products of the HPGR. The complete intergranular cracks mainly occur in the conjugate fracturing zone, while the partial intergranular cracks within the particles result in an abundance of locked-particles in the comminution products. Furthermore, the degree of liberation of minerals is more influenced by the final grinding mode rather than the crushing method. It is found that complete intergranular cracks in the conjugate fracturing zone play a significant role in increasing the degree of liberation of iron minerals in the fine size fraction. The “mosaic-type” locked-particles have negligible effect on the liberation properties of iron minerals during the subsequent grinding process.

Opis:
In this study, the surface properties and flotation behavior of quartz with NaOl as a collector in the presence of Ca2+ ions were investigated using density functional theory (DFT) calculations in conjunction with flotation tests, adsorption experiments, zeta potential measurements, and solution chemistry calculations. The results of the flotation and adsorption tests proved that Ca2+ promoted the flotation recovery and the adsorption density of sodium oleate on quartz at pH > 8. Zeta potential analyses and solution chemistry calculations demonstrated that Ca(OH)+ was the functional species which activated quartz. DFT calculations indicated that O atoms dominated the quartz (101) surface, and great electrostatic repulsion and space resistance existed between the surface and oleate anion. The spontaneous adsorption of H2O and OH- on the (101) surface made quartz surfaces hydrated and hydroxylated, and resulted in the hydrophilicity of quartz. The adsorption of Ca(OH)+ on quartz (101) surface was more favorable and able to repulse the water film, which decreased the electrostatic repulsion and space resistance, and further facilitated the adsorption of oleate anion. During the activating and collecting adsorption processes, electron transition occurred along the O1—Ca—O2 path, implying Ca(OH)+ acted as an intermediary and electron donator in the activation process.

Adsorption mechanism of a novel amphoteric collector 2-((2-(decyloxy)ethyl)amino)lauric acid (CH<3>dolny(CH2)9CH(NH(CH2)3-O-(CH2)9CH3)COOH, LDEA) on the α-quartz (1 0 1) surface has been investigated through molecular dynamic (MD) simulation calculations at a molecular level. The adsorption process showed that the LDEA collector could be adsorbed onto α-quartz’s (1 0 1) surface as the H atom in the polar carboxyl and amino functional group of the collector moved closer to the O atom of quartz (1 0 1) surface. The interaction energies of the collector LDEA molecule and its ionic derivative species on α-quartz surfaces in vacuum and aqueous solutions are in the order of pH 4 < pH 12 < in vacuum < pH 10 < pH 6, which demonstrating that the α-quartz (1 0 1) surface could absorb the collector LDEA in the forms of electrostatic and hydrogen bonding interactions. It also reveals that the optimal pulp pH range for LDEA adsorption on α-quartz’s surface is between neutral and weak alkali environment (pH 6 - 10). The trend obtained from molecular modeling has been validated by microflotation studies on quartz at different pHs.

Opis:
The eastern tailings of the Anshan mining area are generally categorized as high silicon-bearing iron tailings, and the iron mainly exists in the form of hematite–limonite with an iron grade of 10.60%. In order to recover iron minerals and reduce the influence of the tailings on the environment, a method for pre-enrichment through the combination of low intensity magnetic separation and high intensity magnetic separation with fluidized magnetizing roasting and subsequent low intensity magnetic separation was developed to treat the eastern tailings of the Anshan mining area. The effects of gas-flow rate, H2 concentration, roasting temperature, and roasting time on the quality of the final iron concentrate were discussed. Moreover, the iron phase transformation and change in magnetism of the sample were studied. The results indicated that an iron concentrate with an iron grade of 65.30% and a recovery of 85.85% could be obtained under the conditions of gas-flow rate of 8 m3/h, H2 concentration of 50%, and fluidized magnetizing roasting at 600 ℃ for 20 s. X-ray diffraction analysis, phase analysis, and magnetism analysis on the roasted materials indicated that the hematite–limonite could be transformed into magnetite during the fluidized magnetizing roasting process, and effective separation of iron and gangues could be easily achieved by the weak magnetic separation.

Opis:
2-((2-(decyloxy)ethyl)amino)lauric acid $(C_{10}H_21CH(NH(CH_2)_3OC_{10}H_{21})COOH$, (LDEA), a novel amphoteric surfactant, has been first utilized as the collector for on-site the reverse flotation of Anqian mixed magnetic concentrates. The separation performances were investigated systematically by flotation conditioning tests, open-circuit flowsheet experiment, and locked cycle flowsheet test. The flotation condition test's results showed that the optimal roughing conditions were pulp pH of 10, starch dosage 1000 g/Mg, and LDEA dosage of 500 g/Mg at 25 °C. Under the optimized flotation conditions, through one roughing - three scavengings locked cycle flowsheet, the iron concentrate with a total iron grade of 68.08% and recovery of 88.20% was obtained. In contrast, the iron grade of the tailings was only 12.32%. Compared with the flotation results of anionic commercial surfactant RA-715 used as the collector, the LDEA has a better separation performance. The iron grade and recovery increased by 0.07% and 0.86% in the iron concentrate, and the grade of the tailings decreased 3.72%, respectively. Besides, the LDEA possesses more advantages, such as a simple flotation process, no activator (CaO) addition, lower collector consumption, and lower pulp temperature. The study revealed that the novel amphoteric surfactant LDEA was an effective flotation collector with good collecting and separation ability on natural iron ores at a comparatively lower temperature.
