Opis:
NdBa$\text{}_{2}$Cu$\text{}_{3}$O$\text{}_{7-δ}$ superconducting thin films were grown on SrTiO$\text{}_{3}$(100) and LaSrGaO$\text{}_{4}$(100) substrates by off-axis rf sputtering and pulsed laser deposition. The effects of several deposition parameters, e.g. gas pressure, substrate temperature and energy density were studied. Thin films grown by off-axis rf sputtering were highly c-axis oriented, but those by pulsed laser deposition were predominantly a-axis oriented under our deposition conditions. However, the c-axis oriented portion for the films grown by pulsed laser deposition was increased by increasing the temperature above 800°C. T$\text{}_{c(zero)}$ was 87 K and 83 K for the c- and a-axis oriented films respectively. The critical current density of c-axis oriented films was 10$\text{}^{6}$-10$\text{}^{7}$ A/cm$\text{}^{2}$ below 60 K.

Opis:
Study of silicified material of Trinodus elspethi, from the Edinburg Formation, Virginia, USA, shows there is no gliding of distal parts of segments but an articulating furrow and opposing flange with prongs, acting as apodemes for muscle attachment, allowed cephalon and thorax to move as a single unit. Articulation between thorax and pygidium was more rigid with prongs from the thorax articulating in sockets on the pygidium. Support is given to the view that agnostoids lived partially enrolled with cephalon and pygidium gaping. They are unique in lacking an articulating half−ring between cephalon and thorax and the hinge joint is modified medially to provide an opening for what is interpreted as an exhalatory organ through which water passed during feeding and swimming. Peculiarities of the thorax are connected with the presence of only two thoracic segments articulating as a unit with distal tips directed anteriorly rather than posteriorly. Otherwise articulating half rings are present in the rest of the thorax and pygidium and lack of articulating facets is not unique. It is concluded that agnostoids can be shown to be trilobites.

Opis:
This paper investigates an air spindle with both radial and thrust air bearings of newly developing one-directional porous materials. At present, orifice type and porous type are adopted for thrust air bearings. Orifice type thrust air bearing is fabricated by machining several micro-holes on a bearing pad bearing, permeability significantly affected by particle size and machining conditions is an important factor of performance, but it is hard to c porosities is suggested. It has many micro-porosities through axial direction, so stable and plenty of air can be supplied to the thrust bearing pad. A radial air bearing also can be substituted by a radial direction porous bearing as the same reason. In case of driving parts, built-in motor type is widely applied. But it needs additional cooling parts to drop heat from a motor. So application of an air turbine drive with light-weight shaft is suggested and additionally it will reduce fabricating cost.

Opis:
Purpose: Weed interference is a constraint in agricultural practice. The crop-weed interaction has been extensively described in literature, but the weed-weed interaction and their potential usage in crop production have not much been understood. In this paper, the interactions of allelochemicals of the weeds which cause troublesome in crop production and ecosystem against weeds, crops, and pathogens are described. Principal results: Weed allelochemicals are classified into many chemical classes, and the majority is consisting of phenolics acids, alkaloids, terpenes, flavonoids, long chain fatty acids, lactones, and other volatile compounds. Type of weed allelochemicals and their doses are varied among weed species. Some allelochemicals such as catechin (+/-) have been reported to be responsible for weed invasiveness. Some crops exude germination stimulants to parasitic weeds such as Striga spp. and Orobanche spp. In contrast to their negative impacts on crop production, many weeds can be exploited as promising sources to control harmful insects, fungi, bacteria, and weeds. For instance, Ageratum conyzoides is a destructive weed in crop production, but it exerted excellent insecticidal, antifungal, and herbicidal capacity and promoted citrus productivity in A. conyzoides intercropped citrus orchards. Major conclusions: In general, weeds compete with crops by chemical pathway by releasing plant growth inhibitors to reduce crop growth. Weed allelochemicals may be successfully exploited for pest and weed controls in an integrated sustainable crop production. Some weed allelochemicals are potent for development of natural pesticides.

Opis:
Clarifying the genetic background of the drought-tolerance trait is a crucial task that may help to improve plant performance under stress by a genetic engineering approach. dehydration-responsive element-binding protein (dREB) is a transcription factor family which modulates many stress-responsive genes. In this study, we isolated a DrEB homolog gene named ZmDrEBtv from Zea mays var. Tevang-1. Using bioinformatic tools, a number of Indels and SNPs in ZmDrEBtv sequence different from the reference accession were identified. In addition, based on deduced protein sequence similarity, ZmdREBtv was assigned to transcription factor dREB2 class as featured by a conserved dNa binding domain – aP2. The ZmDrEBtv construct under thecontrol of the rd29a promoter was transformed into a drought-sensitive maize plant, K7 line. The transgenic plants were assessed with reference to molecular and phenotypic characteristics related to the drought-tolenrance trait. The results proved that the maize plants carrying ZmDrEBtv gene showed enhanced tolerance and better performance to the water-deficit environment at different stages, compared to the wild-type plants.

Opis:
Small ruminants represent an important economic source in small farm systems and agriculture. Feed is the main component of livestock farming, which has gained special attention to improve animal performance. Many studies have been done to improve feed utilisation through addition of feed additives. For a long period, antibiotics have been widely used as growth promoters in livestock diets. Due to their ban in many countries, search for alternative feed additives has been intensified. Probiotics are one of these alternatives recognised to be safe to the animals. Use of probiotics in small ruminant nutrition has been confirmed to improve animal health, productivity and immunity. Probiotics improved growth performance through enhancing of rumen microbial ecosystem, nutrient digestibility and feed conversion rate. Moreover, probiotics have been reported to stabilise rumen pH, increase volatile fatty acids production and to stimulate lactic acid utilising protozoa, resulting in a highly efficient rumen function. Furthermore, use of probiotics has been found to increase milk production and can reduce incidence of neonatal diarrhea and mortality. However, actual mechanisms through which probiotics exert these functions are not known. Since research on application of probiotics in small ruminants is scarce, the present review attempts to discuss the potential roles of this class of feed additives on productive performance and health status of these animals.

Opis:
In this study, the allelopathic potential of dehulled rice, rice, and hulls of rice on germination of weeds was evaluated in laboratory. Phenolic acids in growth media of these plants were also identified and quantified using HPLC. Identified allelochemicals were reversely tested for phytotoxic effects on germination and seedling growth of barnyardgrass, lettuce, radish and rice. The results showed that the inhibitory effects of dehulled rice were stronger than those of hulls and rice. Dehulled rice caused 66.7% and 50.6% reduction in radish root length and lettuce shoot height, respectively. Dehulled rice showed strong inhibitory effects on root length of lettuce and shoot height of radish while hulls and rice exhibited stimulation. Regarding phenolic identification, vanillin and vanillic acid were detected as allelochemicals in root exudates of rice and tested plants. The results revealed that most of the vanillin and vanillic acid treatments showed high inhibitory effects on germination rates and seedling growth of lettuce and radish, high stimulatory activity on root elongation of rice. Vanillic acid (100 ppm and 200 ppm), vanillin (100 ppm) and their mixture (200 ppm) completely inhibited survival of lettuce. The findings indicate the allelopathic potential of dehulled rice which can be used for identification of more phytotoxins to produce bioherbicides in agricultural practices.
