    The objective of this paper is to discuss current reductive theories of the nonexistent objects, specifically - contemporary deflationary theories of the fictional objects. By such theories I mean those denying that fictional objects have any ontological status at all. Theories, which claim that fictional proper names denote some sort of objects but deny that these names denote individual objects, are treated as the reductive theories of non-existent as well. In the discourse I present the following ideas: 1) Russell’s theory of description with the further remarks by W. V. O. Quine; 2) A. Plantinga’s view that the fictional names have no denotation, which is realized in the framework of possible worlds semantics; 3) Theories by N. Wolterstorf and P. van Inwagen which can be seen as a link between strictly deflationary theories and meinongian theories; Wolterstorff claim that empty names denote general abstract objects and Inwagen identify fictional objects with theoretical objects of literal criticism; 4) Theories based on the speech acts theories; 5) Theories which identify fictional objects with mental objects. The conclusion of the argument is that the aforementioned theories are not adequate for the analysis of fiction (non-existent) and that more suitable for such a purpose are meinongian theories of non-existent objects.

    Opis:
    Der Artikel befasst sich mit dem Problem des geistigen Eigentums und der Urheberrechte im Zeitalter der Entwicklung der digitalen Technologien und des Internets. Es werden die Unterschiede zwischen dem Besitz der materiellen Güter und dem intellektuellen Eigentum genannt. Es entsteht die Frage, ob man im letzten Fall überhaupt vom Eigentumsrecht sprechen kann. Es wird darauf hingewiesen, dass das Herunterladen und Kopieren aus dem Internet etwas anderes als Diebstahl ist. Es wird auch der überholte und übermäßig restriktive Charakter des heute geltenden Urheberrechtssystems betont. Es wird zum Schluss festgestellt, dass eine Diskussion über die grundsätzliche Frage, was „geistiges Eigentum“ bedeutet, unentbehrlich sei. Darüber hinaus sei auch eine tiefgründige Reform des bestehenden Urheberrechtssystems erforderlich, um sie an die sich rasch entwickelnden digitalen Technologien anzupassen.
    This paper discusses the problem of intellectual property and copyright in the times of the development of digital-age technologies. The article points out the differences between possessing material goods and intellectual property. The question arises if the latter can be called “a property” at all. Subsequently, the author explains why copying and downloading content from the Internet cannot be simply defined as stealing. The author also points out that obtaining and holding copyright has recently become too restrictive and obsolete. As a conclusion, the need for thorough public debate concerning the very fundamental problem - the defintion of “intellectual property” is highlighted. Other long-term recommendations include in-depth reforms of the present copyright system so that it is more fine-tuned to the reality dominated by the rapidly developing digital technologies.
    Artykuł podejmuje problem własności intelektualnej i praw autorskich w dobie rozwoju technologii cyfrowych i Internetu. Wskazane zostają różnice pomiędzy posiadaniem dóbr materialnych a własnością intelektualną. Powstaje pytanie, czy w tym ostatnim przypadku w ogóle można mówić o prawie własności. Wskazuje się również, że pobieranie treści z Internetu i kopiowanie jest czymś innym niż kradzież. Podkreślona zostaje również przestarzałość i nadmierna restrykcyjność panującego obecnie systemu praw autorskich. Ostatecznie należy stwierdzić, że potrzebna jest dyskusja nad fundamentalną kwestią – czym jest tzw. „własność intelektualna”. W dalszej kolejności niezbędna jest również głęboka reforma  istniejącego systemu praw autorskich, zmierzająca do jego przystosowania do szybko rozwijających się technologii cyfrowych.

    The article discusses the concept of the matrix presented by M. Ostrowicki. The concept is Ostrowicki’s original thought and relates to the way that virtual reality exists and is understood. The basic term is a matrix understood in a peculiar way represented in the cybernetic approach which is fully compatible with the digitality of virtual reality. In the article, the author presented the critical analysis of the concept stressing its limitations based on the very concept of the matrix. It is important, however, to highlight the fact that it was the first fully author’s attempt to look at the problem of virtual reality’s ontology in general instead of local way.
    W artykule omówiono koncepcję matryc przedstawioną przez M. Ostrowickiego. Jest to jego oryginalna koncepcja, dotycząca sposobu rozumienia oraz istnienia rzeczywistości wirtualnej. Podstawowym pojęciem jest swoiście rozumiana matryca (matrix), w dużym stopniu ujęta na sposób cybernetyczny, co doskonale współgra z cyfrowością rzeczywistości wirtualnej. Przedstawiono krytyczną analizę dotyczącą tej koncepcji, wskazując na pewne jej niedoskonałości, leżące niestety u podstawy samego pojęcia matrycy. Należy jednak zauważyć, że była to pierwsza w pełni autorska próba całościowego, a nie tylko lokalnego, ujęcia problemu ontologii rzeczywistości wirtualnej.

    Celem artykułu jest przytoczenie argumentów na rzecz tezy, że o kwestiach moralnych nie sposób decydować bez odwoływania się do rozstrzygnięć natury ontologicznej. Ilustracją głównej linii argumentacyjnej jest wybór Cyphera – jednego z pobocznych bohaterów filmu Matrix. Cypher decyduje się na zdradę walczących o wolność ludzi w zamian za dostanie życie w rzeczywistości wirtualnej. Wybór ten wydaje się przy pierwszej analizie problemu całkowicie naganny, gdyż wiąże się z porzuceniem świata rzeczywistego i prowadzeniem pozornie nieautentycznego życia w symulacji komputerowej. Argumentować można jednak, że dychotomia świata rzeczywistego i wirtualnego jest jedynie pozorna. Wybierając rzeczywistość wirtualną Cypher wybrał funkcjonowanie w świecie, który tak samo jak świat rzeczywisty umożliwia zaistnienie podmiotowości moralnej i autentyczne przeżywanie. To, co różni oba światy, to z pewnością rodzaje determinacji jakim podlega podmiot. Cypher woli żyć w świecie, w którym podlega determinacjom narzucanym przez Matrix, niż w świecie realnym, gdzie jego zachowanie determinowane jest przez geny i imperatywy biologiczne.
    The paper tries to defend the thesis that it is impossible to decide upon moral issues without any references to the ontology of the world we live in. An illustrative example of the main argumentation line is the choice made by Cypher—a second plan character in the movie Matrix. Cypher decides to betray human rebels fighting against machines for freedom and, as a reward, accepts affluent life in the virtual reality. His choice seems to be superficially reprehensible because of the abandonment of the real world and authentic life. However, one can argue that the dichotomy between the real and virtual world is seeming. By choosing the virtual reality Cypher decided to act in a world which, like the real world, makes it possible to be a moral subject and enables authentic experience. The difference between both the worlds lies in the type of determination limiting any conscious subject. Cypher prefers to live in a world determined by the algorithm of Matrix more than in a world where his behaviour is determined by genes and other biological factors.
