Opis:
Energy efficiency can be obtained by measuring accurate new surface energy in the crushing process. For the calculation of new surface energy, most researchers only pay attention to particle size distribution and ignore the influence of particle shape and roughness on the surface area. In this paper, the image processing technology was used to calculate the shape parameters and surface fractal dimension of the crushed granite sample. According to the different combinations of particle shape and roughness, the new surface area corresponding to the four basic models was calculated. For the surface area of a single particle, the calculation result of the rough model considering the surface fractal dimension is higher than that of the smooth model. Moreover, the ratio of the calculation results of the rough model and the smooth model increases significantly as the particle size increases. For 0.1 mm particles, the area ratio of the two models is 8, but for 25 mm particles, the area ratio reaches 130. In contrast, the particle shape is a secondary factor that affects the surface area calculation. The ellipsoidal model considering the particle shape has a surface area 30% larger than the spherical model. If the roughness and particle shape are considered when calculating the surface area, the energy efficiency of crushing is higher.

Opis:
The strength of a particle is one of the most crucial characteristics within a comminution process due to the mechanical stresses experienced by each particle. In this study, the K9 glass spheres and ceramic spheres were subjected to a breakage test. The test includes the breakage of up to 240 particles under compression to obtain the distribution of the breakage probability depending on the crushing force and breakage energy. The breakage test was conducted for five particle size fractions from each individual material. Thus obtained 10 crushing force distributions and corresponding 10 breakage energy distributions were fitted with lognormal distribution function. The parameters in the lognormal were analyzed including the effect of the material and particle size. Following this, the relationship between the crushing force and breakage energy was analyzed based on the Hertzian elastic contacts model and Tomas’s elastic-plastic contact model, respectively. Additionally, particle strength in terms of crushing force and breakage energy were compared and found to be size dependent. Finally, a simple transformation algorithm of distributions is developed. According to this algorithm the crushing force distribution can be transformed into breakage energy distribution and vice versa. The findings facilitate a better understanding of the particle strength distribution under compression and will help to improve the comminution process design, control and optimization.

Opis:
In order to accurately predict the particle size distribution (PSD) of coal particle bed comminution under different applied pressures, the tests of two kinds of coal with four size fractions under five different applied pressures were carried out by TAW-3000 hydraulic servo testing machine. The Gaudin-Schumann(G-S) distribution is extended by the fractal theory and the JK size-dependent breakage model is discussed. Two mathematical models for predicting PSD of crushing products in coal particle bed comminution are proposed. Results show that the relationship between the mass-specific energy and applied pressure is linear. Because of the protective effect of fine particles, the change of particle size modulus d0 in G-S distribution is not significant, while the distribution parameter α decreases logarithmically with the increase of mass-specific energy. With the decrease of size fraction, the crushability of coal particle bed decreases, and a master curve can be used to fit the comminution characteristics of coal particle bed with different size fractions. The extended G-S distribution model and the JK size-dependent breakage model have better fit the results of coal particle bed comminution. This research provides a useful reference for the mathematical modelling of coal particle bed comminution.

Opis:
A novel laccase with a molecular mass of 64 kDa and the N-terminal sequence AIGPDDTINF was isolated from fresh fruiting bodies of the mushroom Pleurotus nebrodensis. The purification protocol comprised ion exchange chromatography on DEAE-cellulose, CM-cellulose, and Q-Sepharose, and gel filtration on Superdex 75. The laccase was adsorbed on DEAE-cellulose and Q-Sepharose, but not on CM-cellulose. It demonstrated an optimal temperature of 70°C. The enzyme activity increased steadily over the temperature range 20°C-70°C. There was only a slight reduction in activity at 80°C. However, all activity disappeared following exposure to 100°C for 10 minutes. The enzyme activity changed only slightly over the pH range 3-5, with the optimum at pH 5, but underwent a precipitous decline when the pH was elevated to 6, and was undetectable at pH 8 and pH 9.

Opis:
ZnS-based mechanoluminescent film has been widely used in the fields of stress visualization and stress sensing, due to its high brightness and repeatable stable luminescent characteristics. To evaluate the flexible-elastic deformation performance of ZnS-based mechanoluminescent film, both visual inspection and digital image correlation (DIC) are, respectively, employed for measuring the ZnS-based mechanoluminescent film. ZnS:Cu2+ mechanoluminescent powders are first mixed with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) matrix to produce ZnS:Cu2+-PDMS mechanoluminescent film. Then, two measurement experiments are, respectively, conducted to investigate the mechanical response and the flexible-elastic deformation performance of the prepared ZnS:Cu2+-PDMS mechanoluminescent film. On one hand, the mechanical response performance of the ZnS:Cu2+-PDMS mechanoluminescent film is validated by visual monitoring of composite concrete fracture processes. On the other hand, the prepared ZnS:Cu2+-PDMS mechanoluminescent film is also measured by DIC to obtain its full-field deformations and strains information. The flexible-elastic deformation performance of the ZnS:Cu2+-PDMS mechanoluminescent film is well demonstrated by the DIC measured results.

Opis:
Oxidative stress has been recognized as a critical pathogenetic mechanism for the initiation and the progression of hepatic injury in a variety of liver disorders. Antioxidants, including many natural compounds or extracts, have been used to cope with liver disorders. The present study was designed to investigate the hepatoprotective effects of cassia seed ethanol extract (CSE) in carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced liver injury in mice. The animals were pre-treated with different doses of CSE (0.5, 1.0, 2.0 g/kg body weight) or distilled water for 5 days, then were injected intraperitoneally with CCl4 (0.1% in corn oil, v/v, 20 ml/kg body weight), and sacrificed at 16 hours after CCl4 exposure. The serum aminotransferase activities, histopathological changes, hepatic and mitochondrial antioxidant indexes, and cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) activities were examined. Consistent with previous studies, acute CCl4 administration caused great lesion to the liver, shown by the elevation of the serum aminotransferase activities, mitochondria membrane permeability transition (MPT), and the ballooning degeneration of hepatocytes. However, these adverse effects were all significantly inhibited by CSE pretreatment. CCl4-induced decrease of the CYP2E1 activity was dose-dependently inhibited by CSE pretreatment. Furthermore, CSE dramatically decreased the hepatic and mitochondrial malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, increased the hepatic and mitochondrial glutathione (GSH) levels, and restored the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione reductase (GR), and glutathione S-transferase (GST). These results suggested that CSE could protect mice against CCl4-induced liver injury via enhancement of the antioxidant capacity.

Opis:
This paper aims to study the effect of a hindered amine light stabilizer (HALS 770), on the aging behavior of moisture-curable polyurethane (MCPU). MCPU is specifically developed by ourselves for the reinforcement of fragile organic cultural relics in high-humidity environments, but its aging resistance is insufficient. To improve the aging resistance of MCPU, HALS 770 was used to prepare a modified MCPU (MMCPU). A colorimeter, an infrared spectrometer and a thermal analyzer were used to characterize the color and structure changes of MCPU and MMCPU during aging and to determine their aging kinetics. The results show that the activation energy for the thermal decomposition increased from 91–109 kJ/mol to 135–151 kJ/mol. When the color change is used as the indicator for aging, the lifetime of MMCPU under UV aging is 133% longer than that of MCPU, the lifetime of MMCPU under thermal aging at 293 K is 41.3 times that of MCPU. The addition of HALS 770 to MCPU significantly inhibits the aging behavior.

Opis:
Insulin resistance (IR) plays a critical role in metabolic syndrome (MS). Previous studies have demonstrated that activated ROCK is increased in MS patients. However, the effect of Rho-kinase (ROCK) on IR has not been definitely determined. Thus, the aims of the present study were to determine whether ROCK activation induces IR or affects myocardial structure and function, as well as the possible mechanisms underlying this process. Wistar rats fed high fat, high glucose and high salt diet sewed as model of MS and we used transmission electron microscopy, echocardiogram technology, and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated DNA nick-end labeling staining to identify any myocardial damage. The protein levels of MYPT-1 (characteristic of ROCK activation), IRS-1 and AKT were analyzed by immunohistochemistry and Western blotting. In hearts from MS rats, we found increased protein levels of phospho-MYPT-1 and phospho-IRS-1 (Ser307) and decreased phospho-AKT compared to levels in normal rats. In conclusion, the results suggest that ROCK-mediated IR is involved in the development of myocardial impairments in MS rats and that this effect is mediated probably via the IRS-1/PI3-kinase/AKT pathway.
