Opis:
Knowledge management is becoming of great importance in contemporary business. Diversified tools and methods to analyse business and knowledge processes are being implemented in organisations. In the article, the author presents his preliminary research in the area of knowledge management in the Metropolitan Association of Upper Silesia and Dąbrowa Basin. He focuses on the necessary study to identify knowledge deficits, which allows for the development of a research tool supporting the analysis of knowledge processes in the Metropolitan Association of Upper Silesia and Dąbrowa Basin. Aim of the paper: The main aim was to elaborate upon a research tool for analysing knowledge management, i.e. a research questionnaire that enables one to analyse knowledge management deficits and necessary changes in knowledge management activities in the Metropolitan Association of Upper Silesia and Dąbrowa Basin. Materials and methods: The research involves the analysis of source materials, direct interviews with managers and a comparative analysis of business and knowledge processes in manufacturing companies and in the Metropolitan Association. Results and conclusions: The study proves the need to apply a research tool for analysing knowledge processes and knowledge deficits. Questionnaire surveys comprehensively covering all organisational entities of the Metropolitan Association are to be utilised to take appropriate measures to improve knowledge management, consequently resulting in higher operational efficiency of the Metropolitan Association.

Opis:
Purpose: The primary purpose of the article is to cross-sectionally present the concept of a model for optimizing the main drainage system in a coal mine. Design/methodology/approach: The stated goal was achieved by using several research methods, including a literature study of existing technical system models and technical system modeling. Finally, the methodology used was based on a layered approach, which was verified by testing in a mine environment. Findings: In the course of the work, it was found that the main drainage system at the Sobieski Coal Mine is very complex. The energy intensity of the main dewatering process was identified as the main problem. The proposed concept of a layered model of the main dewatering system makes it possible to identify the influence of technical, management and economic parameters of the system. Research limitations/implications: The research limitations are due to the complexity of the system, the difficulties arising from the specificity of the mine environment, the lack of the possibility of ongoing diagnostics of the entire infrastructure (e.g. pipeline specification, the ability to measure sediment in water galleries, smooth change of the speed of drive mechanisms, etc.). Practical implications: The results of the research work will be recommendations for engineering and technical staff aimed at reducing the energy intensity of the system. Social implications: the conducted research is part of the current trend of searching for methods to reduce the energy intensity of systems and equipment. Originality/value: The originality of the issue stems from the proposed concept of a layered model of the main drainage system, taking into account technical, organizational and economic parameters. Determining the relationship between the elements of each layer will enable the development of an optimization method to reduce the energy intensity of the system.

Purpose: The article presents the research results concerning employees’ competencies in JZR Ltd. (Jastrzębskie Zakłady Remontowe Ltd.). Human resources management directly affects the operational results of the activity of a manufacturing company. The managers need to recruit employees possessing a high level of competencies. The key expected result is better economic effects. The JZR Development Programme is a good example of the complexity of processes that should be taken into account in good decisions in the area of human resources management in an activity of a manufacturing company. The main purpose of the research was to identify and analyse key employees’ competencies needed to launch new products on the market. The specificity of machine-building enterprises determines the scope and scale of the necessary activities for efficient and effective human resources management. Design/methodology/approach: The objectives of the research were achieved by the analysis of a recruitment process executed in the JZR Development Programme and a questionnaire survey within the project "Development of the skills ecosystem in four countries of the Visegrad Group". Findings: It was found that key elements determining the productivity level of the JZR Development Programme are the high technical and soft competencies of new employees. A risk analysis is also of high magnificence in so complex and capital-consuming projects. Research limitations/implications: The research limitations are due to the complexity of the system, the difficulties arising from the specificity of the mine environment, the lack of the possibility of ongoing diagnostics of the entire infrastructure (e.g. pipeline specification, the ability to measure sediment in water galleries, smooth change of the speed of drive mechanisms, etc.). Practical implications: The analysed investment programme requires workers specializing in the construction and designing of scraper conveyors, belt conveyors and powered supports. Soft skills such as teamwork skills or knowledge of project management methods and tools are highly needed as well. The activity of JZR Ltd. needs specialized software in the field of machine construction in terms of technology and design. Social implications: The expected requirements are strictly connected with IT skills which should be developed within the education process, especially at technical universities. Manufacturing companies like JZR Ltd. need to participate actively in creating the profile of a graduate at universities. Another possible activity could be achieved by cooperation with a potential candidate for work in a manufacturing company. Originality/value: The value of the research is the identified requirements in the range of analyzed technical and soft competencies which could be treated as a benchmark for similar complex manufacturing development projects. According to what was analyzed in the area of literature review we were able to find, there are no specific studies referring and reporting on employees’ competencies required in projects in mining industry.

Opis:
Purpose: The main purpose of undertaken research was the analysis of risk management, especially, the adequate identification of risk factors and planning actions reducing their adverse effects. Ongoing monitoring of these risks is crucial to achieve the effects of investment project implementation. Design/methodology/approach: The authors present the research results concerning risk management in JZR (Jastrzębskie Zakłady Remontowe) Development Programme. Risk is an immanent element in the activity of a production company. Therefore, it requires an adequate approach in order to achieve the maximization of economic effects. The JZR Development Programme is a good example of the complexity of processes that should be taken into account in risk management of an investment project. Findings: The specificity of machine building enterprises determines the scope and scale of the necessary activities for efficient and effective risk management. The main scientific problem focuses on the analysis and categorization of risk factors. As a result, the authors determine appropriate responses to identified risks in the JZR Development Programme. Originality/value: The development of risk response is crucial for the success of the analysed project. These actions allow to reduce the negative impact of risk factors on the project’s timeliness, project’s budget as well as economic and technical-technological effects. Another necessary process within risk management is constant monitoring of a project implementation in accordance with the adopted methodology, which enables current updating of emerging new threats to the project implementation and developing necessary actions to minimize the threats.

Porowate materiały węglowe, czyli popularnie zwane węgle aktywne, charakteryzują się unikalnymi właściwościami fizyko-chemicznymi, co sprawia, że są stosowane w różnych dziedzinach. Materiał ten ma wiele zastosowań w środowisku i przemyśle do usuwania, odzyskiwania, separacji i modyfikacji różnych związków w fazie ciekłej i gazowej. Węgiel aktywny jest głównie materiałem sorpcyjnym o różnorodnym zastosowaniu. Do określenia ogólnej charakterystyki adsorbentu wystarczy wyznaczyć izotermę adsorpcji danego adsorbatu, to jednak w przypadku praktycznego wykorzystania takiego adsorbentu jest niewystarczające. Należy określić pozostałe parametry fizyko-chemiczne, aby móc dokładnie dobrać sorbent węglowy do danego zastosowania. Mając to na uwadze, w niniejszej pracy dokonano przeglądu metod badań właściwości fizyko-chemicznych węgli aktywnych, zwracając szczególną uwagę na parametry najważniejsze podczas oceny możliwości zastosowania.
