Opis:
Objectives The objectives of this study have been to: 1) describe and compare urban and rural injured worker populations in Alberta, Canada; 2) identify return-to-work outcomes in urban and rural populations; 3) examine the relationship between geographic location of residence and recovery from work-related musculoskeletal injury; and 4) investigate if this relationship is attenuated after controlling for other known risk factors. Material and Methods This study was a secondary analysis utilizing data of a population of musculoskeletal injury claimants who underwent clinical/RTW (return to work) assessment between December 2009 and January 2011 collected by the Workers’ Compensation Board of Alberta. Descriptive statistics were computed for 32 variables and used for comparing urban and rural workers. The logistic regression analysis was performed to test the association between geographic location of residence and likelihood of return-to-work. Results Data on 7843 claimants was included, 70.1% of them being urban and 29.9% – rural. Rural claimants tended to have spent less time in formal education, have a blue-collar job, have no modified work available, have a diagnosed comorbidity, and not been enrolled in a specialized rehabilitation program. They were 1.43 (1.12–1.84) times the odds more likely than urban claimants to be continuing to receive full disability benefits 90 days after their RTW assessment, and 1.68 (1.06–2.67) times the odds as likely to report a recurrence of receiving disability benefits. Conclusions Rural residence was associated with prolonged work disability, even after controlling for age, job type, education level, health utilization and other potential confounders. Further research is required to explore why injured workers in rural settings experience prolonged reception of disability benefits and have greater rates of recurrence of receiving disability benefits. Opis:
ObjectivesPolice officers run a risk of injury that is higher than in most other occupations. This study aims to quantify injury prevalence and identify common musculoskeletal injuries (MSIs) among police officers, using injury data from a municipal police service in Alberta, Canada.Material and MethodsThis is a descriptive study based on a secondary data analysis of the MSIs reported to the police service over a 41-month period; January 1, 2013 – June 2, 2016. Data from 1325 active police officers were examined, and injury prevalence was reported according to sex, injury diagnosis, the body part injured, and the work area.ResultsThe prevalence of strains and sprains was very high, at 89.2%. The back and shoulder were most frequently affected. Overall, injury proportions did not differ significantly across work areas. The injury risk was age-related but no significant differences in injuries between sexes were identified.ConclusionsMinor injuries such as strains and sprains occur frequently in the police occupation. Future research should focus on specific risk factors for MSIs in police officers in order to aid prevention.

The article concerns the matters connected with assuring the power security. There were characterized the definition of power security, its complexity and responsibility of parties for providing it. The article depicts the structure of national power balance with a special regard towards natural gas. There were presented directions of supplies of this fuel, the structure of its consumption and the indicator of import dependence for Poland concerning power materials. There was also presented types of underground gas storage facilities and their basic parameters. Taking into consideration the meaning of UGS for national gas system, the Authors show current condition of national storage infrastructure in Poland and possibilities of construction of underground gas storage in salt cavern.

Opis:
The magnetic double perovskite materials of composition A$\text{}_{2}$BB'O$\text{}_{6}$ with A an alkaline earth ion and B and B' a magnetic and non-magnetic transition metal or lanthanide ion, respectively, have attracted considerable attention due to their interesting magnetic properties ranging from antiferromagnetism to geometrically frustrated spin systems and ferromagnetism. With respect to application in spin electronics, the ferromagnetic double perovskites with BB'= CrW, CrRe, FeMo, or FeRe and A = Ca, Ba, Sr are highly interesting due to their in most cases high Curie temperatures well above room temperature and their half-metallic behavior. Here, we summarize the structural, magnetotransport, magnetic, and optical properties of the ferromagnetic double perovskites and discuss the underlying physics. In particular, we discuss the impact of steric effects resulting in a distorted perovskite structure, doping effects obtained by a partial replacing of the divalent alkaline earth ions on the A site by a trivalent lanthanide as well as B/B' cationic disorder on the Curie temperature T$\text{}_{C}$, the saturation magnetization and the magnetotransport properties. Our results support the presence of a kinetic energy driven mechanism in the ferromagnetic double perovskites, where ferromagnetism is stabilized by a hybridization of states of the non-magnetic B'-site positioned in between the high spin B-sites.
