    Purpose – This paper aims to investigate the interplay between international migration, soft skills and job and life satisfaction after returns. Design/methodology/approach – The paper uses the dataset of Human Capital in Poland 2010–2014 representative surveys with 4040 return migrants, who worked temporarily abroad and returned to an origin in comparison with almost 70,000 stayers, who never worked abroad. In this study, Poland is treated as a strategic research site for the labor migration processes, which happened after the biggest European Union enlargement in 2004. Findings – This study discovered that working abroad had a positive relation with cognitive, intrapersonal and interpersonal competencies, as well as job and life satisfaction. However, the relations differ depending on the key destination country. Practical implications – his study discusses the implications for future research and practice, offering recommendations to organizations on how to embed employees with these resources in companies and how to support return migrants and their potential employers with the use of migratory informal human capital in personnel management and counseling. Originality/value – This paper brings quantitative arguments about the hidden impacts of international migration on human capital by uniquely comparing the migrant population with the non-migrant population.

    The main aim of this article is to analyse the interplay between international migration, life events related to transition to adulthood and the acquisition of soft skills as a result of working and living abroad. The article is based on an online survey conducted in spring and summer 2020 among 740 Polish and Lithuanian return migrants from the UK who returned to Poland and Lithuania. International migration helped them, above all, to acquire both English language communication skills and to learn teamwork - soft skills which are important for career development. In both groups of Polish and Lithuanian return migrants, international migration accelerated three key processes: 1. starting to make independent decisions, 2. becoming financially independent from their parents and 3. finding stable employment. In both groups, becoming financially independent was linked significantly to the high level of soft skills acquired abroad.
    Głównym celem artykułu jest analiza zależności między migracją międzynarodową, wydarzeniami życiowymi związanymi z wchodzeniem w dorosłość i nabywaniem kompetencji miękkich w wyniku pracy i życia za granicą. Artykuł powstał na podstawie ankiety internetowej przeprowadzonej wiosnąi latem 2020 roku wśród 740 polskich i litewskich migrantów powrotnych zWielkiej Brytanii, którzy wrócili do Polski i na Litwę. Migracje zagraniczne pomogły im, przede wszystkim, w nabyciu zarówno kompetencji komunikacyjnych w języku angielskim, jak i pracy zespołowej - kompetencji miękkich, które są ważne dla rozwoju kariery. W obu grupach migrantów powrotnych z Polski i Litwy migracje zagraniczne przyspieszyły trzy kluczowe procesy: 1. rozpoczęcie samodzielnego podejmowania decyzji; 2. uniezależnienie się finansowo od rodziców oraz 3. znalezienie stabilnego zatrudnienia. W obu grupach usamodzielnienie się finansowo wiązało się istotnie z wysokim poziomem kompetencji miękkich nabytych za granicą.

    The aim of the present study is to examine the extent to which French philology students' informal learning – in the area of multimodal literacies and leisure activities – reinforces the gains in French literature and French history and culture courses through creative mediation. We report on an experiment conducted in the years 2020-2022 in five online courses at the French Philology department of the University of Wrocław during the Covid-19 pandemic. In these courses, students were expected to personally mediate the texts or content studied in class and present them on a group Facebook site. The students' projects are classified according to two criteria (intersemiotic and intrasemiotic mediation; mediation of form and content) and prove that the involvement of informally acquired knowledge and skills not only developed the students' creativity, but also promoted interpretative processes by anchoring the formal learning of the course in personal experience.

    The paper  presents the results of a survey conducted in the academic year 2018/2019 among students of Italian Studies at the University of Wroclaw on metacognitive self-consciousness concerning Italian writing proficiency. The questions concerned the students' practice of written forms of expression in their private lives; the contribution (actual or anticipated) of writing proficiency in their current and future professional career; and the evaluation of the teaching of writing proficiency within the university curriculum of Italian Studies. The study was qualitative and conducted from an emic perspective, involving students in metacognitive reflection. The results of the study indicate limited metacognitive self-consciousness on the part of the students of Italian Studies, who are not, however, devoid of any criticism of the practical Italian language course curriculum.

    Es war 5559 Kriege vom Summerzeiten bis zum zweite Weltkrieg, Nach 1945 etwa 160 Kriege. Was ist der Krieg eigentlich? Es ist ein Zustand, in dem die Staaten gegeneinander kämpfen und keine friedliche Beziehungen zusamen haben. Es ist hier wichtig ius ad bellum (also die Staat hat Recht um Krieg zu führen. Heute Krieg ist verboten, es sind nur zwei Möglichkeiten, die Selbstverteidigungskrieg und militärische Aktion auf Initiative des UN – Sicherheitsrates) und ius in bello (Internationale humanitären Völkerrechts, hier wichtig sind Menschenrecht. Hauptmenschenrecht ist das Recht auf Leben, lebende Menschen haben Rechte). Es sind Grundsätze des humanitären Völkerrechts, aber nicht immer sind beobachtet. Wir haben 4 verschiedene Systeme zum Schutz der Menschenrechte, für Polen besonders interessant ist Europäisches und Internes System. In Polen mit Recht auf Leben ist nur ein Problem, während des Krieges haben wir Todesstrafe. Der Krieg respektiert Menschenrechte nicht oft.

    The article presents selected aspects of local development and cooperation in theory andpractice, between a commune and banks. Participation in local development depends onkind of entity and there are some differences. On the one hand local authorities are thesubject which are obliged to look after local development but on the other hand communehasn’t got enough money for all of the tasks, it is supposed to do. Financial institutionsplay very important role in improving development by financial supporting local entitiesin this development. The results of research proves that local development is one of themost important issues between banks and local governments cooperation.

    Taxanes, whose mechanism of action is based on blocking the cells’ division of cells, have been commonly used in the chemotherapy process for over two decades. The indications for the use of taxanes include ovarian cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer, some of gastrointestinal malignant tumors or Kaposi sarcoma. Currently, chemotherapy based on taxanes, as well as every cytostatic medicine, allows to improve survival outcomes in many patients with diagnosed malignancies, although it also involves the occurrence of adverse effects. These adverse events may be life-threatening or at least they can decline the patient’s quality of life. The main aim of this paper is to feature possible ocular side effects during taxane based chemotherapy. Physicians taking care of patients during chemotherapy based on taxanes, as well as on every other cytostatic medicine, should be aware of these probable ocular complications. An early diagnosis of ophthalmic complications caused by chemotherapy makes it possible to avoid long-lasting adverse effects.
