Opis:: The paper concerns the problem of sanctity in the poetry and graphic art of Bohuslav Reynek. The main aim of the author is to show how the sacred realm is present in the Reynek’s construction of literary motifs. In conclusion it is stated that most of them have auratic character (term of Walter Benjamin). Another problem described in the paper is the function of motifs of color and light in Reynek’s output which are in general a metaphor of sanctity. Thirdly, the author focuses on the euphonic aspect of Reynek’s poetry which is also strongly related to the aura of sanctity. Finally, the paper ends with a description of the antithetic and paradoxical character of Reynek’s poetic world.

Opis:: Jan Welzl (1868-1948) was a Czech traveller, globetrotter, polar explorer, hunter, gold prospector and writer who lived on the New Siberian Islands for about 30 years. His memoirs and autobiographical accounts were written down with a help of the professional writers and journalists (R. Těsnohlídek, B. Golombek, E. Valenta) and became very popular in Czechoslovakia. The paper will be an attempt to reconstruct and analyze, on the basis of Welzl’s literary work, his way of seeing the polar regions as a space where the biding social standards and regulations have been changed or suspended. Especially the Eskimo people are seen by Welzl as a social group in which the European behavioral patterns and European social norms (moral, ethical, sexual, etc.) are undermined or non-biding

Opis:: Celem artykułu jest prezentacja postaci Járy Cimrmana, zapomnianego i niedocenionego czeskiego geniusza, postaci literackiej bardzo popularnej w Czechach w drugiej połowy XX w. Tekst stanowi próbę rekonstrukcji genezy tej postaci oraz opisania jej miejsca i roli w czeskiej kulturze. Analizie poddane zostają między innymi czeskie tradycje literackie związane z Cimrmanem (takie jak twórczość Karela Havlíčka-Borovskiego oraz Jaroslava Haška, rozpatrywane zwłaszcza w kontekście anegdoty jako ich zasadniczego tworzywa literackiego), a także kontekst polityczny Czechosłowacji w drugiej połowie XX w. Autor opisuje wreszcie Cimrmana jako uosobienie i personifikację jednego z czeskich autostereotypów i zajmuje się jego związkami z mitami i narracjami czasów czeskiego odrodzenia narodowego.
The main aim of the paper is to present Jára Cimrman, a forgotten and underestimated Czech genius, the fictional literary character which has become very popular in Czech culture in the second half of XX century. The paper is an attempt to reconstruct the genesis of the character and to describe its role and function in the Czech culture. The study analyses the literary traditions connected with Cimrman (such as the writings of Karel Havlíček-Borovský or Jaroslav Hašek, especially in the context of the anecdote as a literary material), the role of the political context in Czechoslovakia in the second half of the 20th century is also emphasized. The author also describes Cimrman as an embodiment and personification one of the Czech self-stereotypes and focuses on his connection with myths and narratives from the period of Czech national revival.
