Opis:
A novel method is introduced for the reliable prediction of the condensed phase (solid or liquid) heat of formation (Δf H θ (c)) of triazolium-based energetic ionic salts (EISs) at 298.15 K. It is based on the influence of some specific elemental compositions of cations and anions as additive parts. Two correcting functions, as non-additive quantities, are also used to adjust the first part. The coefficients of the specific elemental compositions of cations and anions in the new correlation, with a negative sign as well as a negative correcting function in the triazolium-based EISs, can decrease the value of Δf H θ (c) for the corresponding EISs. The reported Δf H θ (c) values of 57 different triazolium-based EISs were used to derive the new model. For 34 triazolium-based EISs, where the outputs of quantum mechanical methods were available, the Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) of the new model was 156.0 kJ/mol. Meanwhile, the RMSE of complicated quantum mechanical methods is very large, i.e. 298.0 kJ/mol. The high reliability of the new model was also confirmed for a further 5 complex triazolium-based EISs as compared to the results of quantum mechanical calculations.

Opis:
The concept of antifragility has received much attention from researchers in recent years. Contrary to fragile systems which fail when exposed to stressors, antifragile systems prosper and improve in response to unpredictability, volatility, randomness, chaos and disturbance. The implications of antifragility goes beyond resilience or robustness. A resilient system resists stress and remains the same; while an antifragile system improves. Taleb argues that antifragility is required for dealing with events that he called black swans or X-events, which are scarce, unpredictable, and extreme events. Such events come as a surprise and have major consequences. The concept of antifragility was developed by Taleb in a socioeconomic context, not in industrial production. However, the authors think that this concept may have its greatest practical utilization when applied to industrial environments. Thus, they focused on this concept in the article aiming to investigate the level of antifragility in an organization. In order to perform this, the authors used a case study based on an Iranian manufacturer of banknotes and security paper (TAKAB). Firstly, a questionnaire was designed based on 7 criteria related to antifragility using the five-point Likert scale and a triangular fuzzy number for each linguistic term is defined. In the next phase, the weight of each component was obtained using the entropy technique. In the final stage, the Euclidean distance between the aggregated fuzzy antifragility index (FAI) and each linguistic term used during this case study was calculated. Finally, based on these results, the level of the organization’s antifragility was assessed as satisfactorily antifragile, based on the minimum Euclidean distance.

Opis:
Human growth hormone (somatropin) is one of the most widely used recombinant proteins that stimulates growth, cell reproduction, and cell regulation in humans. Synthetic production of this protein normally results in low yields and inclusion body formation. To overcome these difficulties, the production of somatropin along with two common signal peptides, namely TorA and SufI, in co-expression with a cytosolic chaperone, GroEL/ES, was evaluated in the present study. The target protein and the two signal sequences (TorA and SufI) were synthesized and cloned into an expression plasmid (pET-22) by using Nde l and Xho l endonucleases. The expression vector (pGro7) containing chaperone proteins (GroES/EL) and one of the expression vectors containing the signal sequence (and the target protein) were co-expressed in the BL21 DE3 expression host. The results showed that although some of the expressed proteins exit the cytoplasm and enter the periplasmic space, there is also an accumulation of proteins (probably as inclusion body) inside the cytoplasmic area. Western blot analysis showed that the inclusion of a signal sequence in the cassette containing the target protein could help to secrete the protein in the periplasmic space and culture media when compared with control groups. The result of these experiments show that the TAT secretion system promotes transportation of the target protein out of the cytoplasm. This secretory system completes folding of the protein structure and transfers the mature protein to the periplasmic space.

Opis:
The Mediterranean flour moth, Ephestia kuehniella Zeller, is a major pest of stored grain products, particularly flour. There have been major concerns over the application of conventional insecticides in stored products, which have strongly demonstrated the need for applying such alternative safe compounds as essential oils. The aim of the present study is to investigate the chemical composition and fumigant toxicity of essential oil from Ziziphora clinopodioides Lam. against the eggs, larvae, and adults of E. kuehniella. All toxicity tests were carried out under laboratory conditions set at 26±1°C and 70% relative humidity (RH). The results of gas chromatography- -mass spectrometry (GC/MS) analysis indicated that the essential oil extracted from the leaves of Z. clinopodioides, is rich in pulegone (49.4%), piperitenone (10.7%), menthone (8.9%), and 1,8-cineol (6.9%). Based on the bioassay results, the LC50 value of the tested oil was estimated to be 54.61 μl · l–1 air for larvae and 1.39 μl · l–1 air for adults. Also, it is shown that increasing the oil concentration resulted in a significant increase in oviposition deterrency as well as a considerable reduction in the egg hatching percentage. These results suggest that Z. clinopodioides oil could be a potential candidate as a fumigant for managing E. kuehniella in stored products.

In this paper, magnetohydrodynamic flow (MHD) of a nonofluid over a stretching cylinder is investigated numerically. The Differential Quadrature Method (DQM) is applied for solving the governing equations. The influence of relevant parameters such as the magnetic parameter, the solid volume fraction of nanoparticles and the type of nanofluid on the flow, heat transfer, Nusselt number and skin friction coefficient is discussed. Also, comparison with the published results is presented. The results show that the Nusselt number increases with growth in the volume fraction coefficient and Reynolds number but decreases with the magnetic parameter.

Granulation is one of the fundamental operations in particulate processing which has an ancient history and a widespread use. Compost fertilizer was granulated using drum granulation method under different level of drum rotational speed. Rotational speed of the drum (ω) ranged from 40 to 60 rev min–1 (40, 45, 50, 55 and 60 rev min–1). The effect of rotational speed of the drum (ω) on some physical properties of granulated compost fertilizer including: useful granules, granules size, fracture force, mass of the granules, bulk density, angle of friction and angle of repose are investigated in the present study. Results indicated that with the increasing drum rotational speedthe percentage of useful granules, fracture force, bulk density, angle of friction and angle of reposeincrease from 69.91% to 80.88%, 34.35 N to 35.23 N, 743.23 to 765.08 kg m–3, 26.50 to 28.01º and 10.83 to 12.88º, respectively. Also the average size of granules decreases from10.15 to 7.05 mm.

Opis:
Discharge of industrial waste containing heavy metals to the environment is a main concern because of their toxicity to many life forms. Adsorption process is one of the conventional methods in order to adsorb heavy metals from wastewater effluents. Therefore, the removal of Cu(II) from aquatic solutions using modified maize hull was investigated. All experiments were performed in batch conditions. The residual Cu(II) concentration was measured by AAS. Upon increasing the adsorbent dosage, pH, and contact time and decreasing Cu(II) concentration, the removal efficiency of Cu(II) ions increased. In optimum conditions, 50% of copper was removed by modified maize hull. The experimental data were best fitted by the Langmuir type 2 model and the adsorption kinetic model followed a pseudo-second order type 1 model. It seems that the use of the modified maize hull to remove Cu(II) ions is very suitable, low-cost, and efficient.
