Opis:
Vinyl ester resin (VEOCN) was prepared from o-cresol epoxy resin (EOCN) and methacrylic acid in the presence of triphenyl phosphine as catalyst and hydroquinone as inhibitor with acid value of ~ 7 mg of KOH per gram of solid. O-cresol based novolac resin (OCN), OCN based epoxy resin (EOCN) and VEOCN were characterized by Fourier transform infra red spectroscopy (FT-IR), 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR. The thermal and mechanical behavior of the samples prepared at 30°C from VEOCN using styrene and methyl-methacrylate respectively as reactive diluents, in the presence of benzoyl peroxide (2 phr) as initiator was studied using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and Universal Testing Machine (UTM). Chemical resistance of above VER samples was also evaluated as a function of % weight loss and with the help of Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), upon immersing the VEOCN samples in different solutions for 90 days.

Opis:
Determination of the chemical forms along with the relative quantity of the different species in a given sample, termed as speciation, can be done by analyzing X-ray absorption fine structure spectra. The different methods that can be used for speciation are: principal component analysis, target transformation, methods based on derivative spectra, method based on the relative position of the absorption edge, residual phase analysis, normalized difference absorption edge spectra analysis and linear combination fitting. An attempt has been made to make a comparative study of these different methods of speciation by recording the X-ray absorption fine structure at the copper K-edge in a mixture having cuprous oxide and cupric oxide in a specific ratio. The X-ray absorption fine structure spectra of the two oxides have also been recorded separately and the different characteristic X-ray absorption near edge structure features have been identified and their origins have been discussed. Speciation of the mixture has been done using these different methods and the results obtained have been compared and discussed.

Opis:
A mathematical model for MHD blood flow through a stenosed artery with Soret and Dufour effects in the presence of thermal radiation has been studied. A uniform magnetic field is applied perpendicular to the porous surface. The governing non-linear partial differential equations have been transformed into linear partial differential equations, which are solved numerically by applying the explicit finite difference method. The numerical results are presented graphically in the form of velocity, temperature and concentration profiles. The effects of various parameters such as the Reynolds number, Hartmann number, radiation parameter, Schmidt number and Prandtl number, Soret and Dufour parameter on the velocity, temperature and concentration have been examined with the help of graphs. The present results have an important bearing on the therapeutic procedure of hyperthermia, particularly in understanding/regulating blood flow and heat transfer in capillaries.

Opis:
In the present study a mathematical model for the hydro-magnetic non-Newtonian blood flow in the non-Darcy porous medium with a heat source and Joule effect is proposed. A uniform magnetic field acta perpendicular to the porous surface. The governing non-linear partial differential equations have been solved numerically by applying the explicit finite difference Method (FDM). The effects of various parameters such as the Reynolds number, hydro-magnetic parameter, Forchheimer parameter, Darcian parameter, Prandtl number, Eckert number, heat source parameter, Schmidt number on the velocity, temperature and concentration have been examined with the help of graphs. The present study finds its applications in surgical operations, industrial material processing and various heat transfer operations.

Opis:
A group of polycyclic and aliphatic azido-esters (as energetic plasticizers) have been synthesized by simple synthetic routes and their molecular structures were confirmed by spectroscopic techniques. In addition, their thermal and rheological properties have been determined utilizing DSC, TGA, viscosity, and contact angle. Computational studies of these plasticizers have been performed by means of DFT (B3LYP/6-31G*) to estimate possible stable structures, energies, heat of formation, bond dissociation energies, IR and NMR spectra etc. Their compatibility with glycidyl azide polymer (GAP) binder was studied to explore their applicability in propellants. All of these molecules are novel and have been synthesized with the possibility of scale up.
