Opis:
This paper presents the synthesis and characterization of new polymeric materials in form of composites. As a fillers, waste materials of inorganic origin (ash and silica gel), were used. In the synthesis of composites, two derivatives of bisphenol A (glycerolate diacrylate, and epoxy resin, Epidian® 5), were applied. The compositions were prepared with an increasing amount of fillers 0-40% w/w in both tested systems. Composites were analyzed using the thermogravimetric analysis (TG/DTG), which showed the influence of different fillers on their thermal properties. Moreover, the proper course of the polymerization reaction was confirmed by spectroscopic analysis (ATR/FT-IR). It has been shown that new resistant materials can be obtained, using cheap and waste materials, by simple synthesis which does not require monitoring of the reaction course or expensive polymerization initiators.

Opis:
The reprocessing of polymeric waste materials is an important issue from an environmental point of view. This paper presents the synthesis and characterization of epoxy resin based composites with the application of waste powder from toner (laser printer) as a filler (10 wt.%). The use of waste filler is part of a sustainable economy. For the synthesis of composites, epoxy resin (Epidian® 5) and three amines (ethylenediamine, triethylenetetramine and aniline) were applied. The presence of the amines compounds in the samples was confirmed by the ATR/FT-IR spectra on which were noted the stretching vibrations band the C-N groups around 1037 cm-1. Materials were analyzed by the TG/DTG and DSC analysis, which showed the influence of kind the crosslinking agent and the presence of filler on their thermal properties. The glass transition (Tg) of materials occurs in the temperature range from 39.8 to 64.2°C. The highest values were achieved for the triethylenetetramine (TETA), which indicates the highest cross-linking of this composite. It has been shown that materials about satisfactory can be obtained, using cheap and waste substances by simple synthesis which does not require expensive polymerization initiators.

Opis:
This paper deals with adsorption of a cationic dye – methylene blue - on the activated biocarbon obtained via chemical activation of horsetail herb post-extraction residue. The effects of initial dye concentration, temperature, solution pH, as well as the phase contact time on the adsorption effectiveness have been tested. The adsorbent prepared was characterized based on the results of elementary analysis, surface area measurements, thermal analysis as well as determination of the acid-base nature of its surface. It has been shown that micro/mesoporous horsetail herb-based activated biocarbon exhibits a significantly higher ability to methylene blue uptake than the commercial activated carbon prepared from peat. It has been also found that the adsorption capacity increases with the increasing initial dye concentration in the solution and the phase contact time. The maximum adsorption toward methylene blue was found at pH=12 and at temperature of 40 C. A better fit to the experimental data was obtained with a Langmuir isotherm than Freundlich one, whereas better fit of the kinetic data was achieved using the pseudo-second order model.
