Opis:: The nonlinear response of a three-degree-of-freedom vibratory system with a double pendulum in the neighborhood of internal and external resonances has been examined. Numerical and analytical methods have been applied for these investigations. Analytical solutions have been obtained by using the multiple scales method. This method is used to construct first-order non- linear ordinary differential equations governing the modulation of amplitudes and phases. Steady state solutions and their stability are computed for selected values of the system parameters.
W pracy przebadano drgania nieliniowego układu o trzech stopniach swobody z podwójnym wahadłem w otoczeniu rezonansów wewnętrznych i zewnętrznych. Badania przeprowadzono analitycznie i numerycznie. Rozwiązanie analityczne uzyskano przy użyciu metody wielu skali czasowych. Metoda posłużyła do zbudowania nieliniowych równań różniczkowych pierwszego rzędu opisujących modulację amplitud i faz. Rozwiązanie ustalone i jego stabilność zostały przedstawione dla wybranych wartości parametrów układu.

Opis:: The Kadzielnia nature reserve located in Kielce is a remnant of the long-term exploitation of limestone. The slopes of a former quarry are unstable; landslide processes occur there, posing a threat to humans and disturbing the landscape. This condition requires observation of the changes in order to take preventive measures. The article presents the preliminary results of such observations, performed for four selected landslides in Kadzielnia. While measuring, modern geodetic techniques were applied, including satellite technology, scanning tacheometry and laser scanning. Obtained results indicate slight displacements of the monitored walls over several months. Observations which were made are initiating study on the behavior of the landslides in the area of Kadzielnia, aimed at early detection of threats and enabling taking safety procedures.

Opis:: The aim of the study was to propose a method for the valuation of water use in agriculture. Authors proposed an indirect valuation method – the alternative cost of water abstraction based on the cost of water from public supply. It was found, that there are several problems with statistical data on water use in agriculture, e.g. it is mostly estimations and it actually covers water used in agriculture, forestry and fishing. Proposed valuation method was used to valuate water use in Polish agriculture. It was calculated, that that cost equaled to almost PLN 4.5 billion in 2016, which means the cost per farm at the level over PLN 3.2 thousand.

The gas – dangerous zones are the places where it is very important to obey the principles of occupational health and safety. In these areas there are special requirements for work. In protecting human health and life it is very important to assess the risk properly. .The assessment informs about the basic dangers and hazards and the persons working in these zones must have the adequate training because their education has a direct impact on safety of their work.

Opis:: Introduction and objective. There are some clinical situations where a high level of HDL cholesterol (HDL-C) may be unfavourable. In these situations, HDL-C may undergo some changes, and even if its quantity is within the reference range, its quality is no longer the same. Brief description of state of knowledge. Diabetes is the state of elevated oxidative stress. Studies conducted to-date have revealed an increased production of the reactive forms of oxygen as the result of tissue damage in diabetes patients. The expression ‘dysfunctional HDL’ has been coined in the literature to describe high-density lipoproteins that lose their antioxidative and anti-inflammatory properties, that is, HDL-C that loses its basic functions. Recent observational studies have confirmed that the atheroprotective activity of properly functioning HDL-C is frequently impaired in clinical situations associated with oxidative stress. The presented review lays the foundation for a new approach to understanding how the functional properties of HDL help reduce cardiovascular risk. Conclusions. In the light of presented findings it seems that there is a need to seek a better diagnostic marker than HDL-C level. This study presents some possible directions for future research to bring us closer to the full understanding of the HDL particle and its role in patients with ischemic heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

Opis:: The positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy was applied to the samples of the human uterine leiomyomas and the normal myometrium tissues taken from the selected place of the uterus during a surgery. The method indicated differences in values of the measured positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy parameters (lifetimes and intensities) between healthy and diseased tissue samples. The additional measurements were performed either in darkness or in presence of visible light which influenced the free radicals present in both kind of tissues and, as a result, made changes in free annihilation and o-Ps decay lifetime and intensity values.

Opis:: J-PET analysis framework is a flexible, lightweight, ROOT-based software package which provides the tools to develop reconstruction and calibration procedures for PET tomography. In this article we present the implementation of the full data-processing chain in the J-PET framework which is used for the data analysis of the J-PET tomography scanner. The framework incorporates automated handling of PET setup parameters' database as well as high level tools for building data reconstruction procedures. Each of these components is briefly discussed.

Opis:: The Jagiellonian Positron Emission Tomograph (J-PET) collaboration is developing a prototype time of flight (TOF)-positron emission tomograph (PET) detector based on long polymer scintillators. This novel approach exploits the excellent time properties of the plastic scintillators, which permit very precise time measurements. The very fast fi eld programmable gate array (FPGA)-based front-end electronics and the data acquisition system, as well as low- and high-level reconstruction algorithms were specially developed to be used with the J-PET scanner. The TOF-PET data processing and reconstruction are time and resource demanding operations, especially in the case of a large acceptance detector that works in triggerless data acquisition mode. In this article, we discuss the parallel computing methods applied to optimize the data processing for the J-PET detector. We begin with general concepts of parallel computing and then we discuss several applications of those techniques in the J-PET data processing.
