Opis:
Drama is an art form, a practical activity, and an intellectual discipline highly accessible to young people. In education, it is a mode of learning that challenges students to make meaning of their world. Through students’ active identification with imagined roles and situations in drama, they can learn to explore issues, events and relationships. In drama students draw on their knowledge and experience of the real world. Drama has the capacity to move and change both participants and audiences and to affirm and challenge values, cultures and identities Drama can develop students’ artistic and creative skills and humanize learning by providing lifelike learning contexts in a classroom setting that values active participation in a non-threatening, supportive environment. Drama empowers students to understand and influence their world through exploring roles and situations and develops students’ non-verbal and verbal, individual and group communication skills. It develops students’ intellectual, social, physical, emotional and moral domains through learning that engages their thoughts, feelings, bodies and actions. In the paper I will demonstrate process drama and how it may be used as a creative medium of teaching English as a foreign language.

Opis:
The article presents the problem of using drama in the development of social and emotional competences of children in early school age. In preschool and early school age children undergo many dynamic developmental changes, especially in the area of social, emotional, cognitive and communication development. All these changes help children better understand and organize the world around them and think about it in a creative and increasingly independent and complex way. Children develop their metacognitive abilities, they better understand their own emotions and behavior, and at the same time, assimilate the norms and principles of social life. In the article, the author points to the possibility of using drama to support emotional and social development of a child. Drama, thanks to the fact that it oscillates between fiction and reality, gives the possibility of safe exploration of various social and moral attitudes and expression of emotions. The article is a kind of summary of the most important notions and dimensions of the use of drama in work with children of early school age in the last two decades.

Emergency following the COVID-19 pandemic has forced educational institutions in over 190 countries to close, and teachers worldwide worked hard to adapt their curriculum to an online format and face multiple related challenges. The purpose of this quantitative study was to investigate the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic had on teachers’ performance and verify whether this change may have been justified by individual resilience, self-compassion and awe levels. The respondents perceived a significant drop in performance following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic across all investigated subscales. Preliminary data obtained in this study indicate that this drop may be explained by a link between performance and Awe, Resilience and Self-Compassion.

Opis:
We all learn best when we are in a state of rational and emotional balance, or what is referred to as ‘flow’. We know that body and mind are linked physically, cognitively and emotionally and teachers need to recognise and support the integrated development of all the three areas within their teaching and to seek safe and positive ways of doing so. The emotional environment improves students’ self-awareness, motivation, empathy, recognition of choices and leads to strong and supportive communities. Drama provides a supportive forum for checking out that impact in a distanced way, with the teacher there to mediate the experience, often from within a role. Drama offers a stimulating and rich opportunity to discuss and understand our own emotions, attitudes and beliefs through observing, empathising with, feeling and exploring the emotions of characters both portrayed and interacted with in a role. Drama provides a safe emotional context and a sense of security for learners. In the various fields of research into the factors influencing success in Second Language Acquisition (SLA), trends accentuating the importance of recognising the indicators of success based upon personality and psychology have been ascribed great significance. In the paper, the results of a pilot study to an ongoing research project will be presented. The main aim of the project is to establish the influence of drama on the creation of a positive educational environment, taking into consideration such variable factors as: feeling of security, feeling of identity, sense of belonging, sense of purpose, feeling of competence, and through this an improvement in language competence. The research is a theoretical-empirical investigation of a diagnostic-explanatory-verifi catory nature. Results will be presented from the perspective of both quantitative and qualitative analysis.

Opis:
The coronavirus pandemic has turned out to be the biggest challenge the modern educational systems across the world have ever faced. Many teachers observed as their well-being plummeted as they started to overwhelmingly worry about the health of their families, as they were facing confusing instructions, unclear expectations or technical difficulties. The purpose of this qualitative study is to diagnose the role of educational coaching in stimulating the well-being of teachers during the pandemic of COVID-19. The results indicate that educational coaching can help teachers improve their well-being during the pandemic when teachers need to change their role - from classroom to remote - and succeed under a new set of circumstances.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to investigate the relationship between locus of control and achievement in second language learning, when using reading and listening as the measure of success of the learners. The study was conducted on a pilot group of 102 university students, enrolled in a master’s degree course at a university in Poland. The students were asked to complete the Drwal 29-question test of locus of control and a number of reading and listening tests to complete over an extended period of time in order to gain a reliable overview of their levels of achievement. The results, somewhat against the run of expectation, indicated that there was no apparent correlation-either positive or negative-between the orientation of locus of control of the participants and achievement. This goes against the conventional assumption that there should be some form of negative correlation, as previous research indicates that sucessful learners in an academic environment are more likely than not to have an inwardly orientated locus of control.

The objective of this article is to present the authors’ reflections on the role of corporality in drama and to indicate the specific nature of kinaesthetic and corporal creativity observed in children, dominated by diverse forms of expansion. The study consists of a theoretical and an empirical part. In the former one, the authors will present some fundamental scientific assumptions to justify their belief in relations occurring in the area of drama – corporality – need for expansion, which ensured also the space for empirical exploration taken up within the framework of experimental studies. Yet, before any observations made upon practical studies are discussed, we shall outline the scientific interpretation of assumptions verified throughout our study.

The aim of the paper is the presentation of the complex problem of a lifelong developmental disorder, known as Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD), in the context of inclusive education offered to these students in general, and in teaching of English as a Foreign Language in particular. First, the theories and typical symptoms of autism will be outlined, followed by examining the behaviours that enable teachers to recognise these form of disorders during lessons at school. Next we review some strategies and teaching techniques that may prove efficient and successful in the ELT classroom for both teachers and autistic students. Finally, we concentrate on the analysis of the data collected as a result of a small-scale qualitative study conducted among a group of EL teachers involved in teaching autistic learners. The study was designed with the purpose of interviewing teachers about the efficiency and successfulness of the currently recommended teaching techniques in their classrooms with ASD students.

Opis:
The Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022 shattered Western illusions of peace and security, raining tensions on both a macro and micro level. This article was thus inspired by how the war had affected Philology students in Poland, specifically emphasising the city of Rzeszow, which lies close to the Ukrainian border. The aim assigned to the research project was to investigate levels of resilience among students and how this correlates with stress levels and to further investigate the potential coping strategies adopted by the students to mitigate their anxiety levels. What has been shown is that there is a correlation between the proximity of students to graduation and the levels of anxiety they felt about their future employment prospects and that the most common method for coping with stress was to become actively involved in assisting in the most immediate manifestation of the cause of the stress, in this case assisting refugees.
