    Opis:
    Bronisław Geremek was one of the architects of the main political changes in Poland and Middle Europe. He contributed to the peaceful democratic changes and implementing the socio-political democratic rules of cooperation to the Polish society. Manifesting the active attitude was in his opinion a duty, which resulted from the Polish intelligence tradition, but it was also connected with his own experience - he treated political activity as first and foremost service to the people in the name of the values timeless for the collective. This outline is a presentation of political reflection fundaments of Bronisław Geremek, based mainly on the press interviews conducted between 1988-2008.

    Doctor Markolf ’s Lesson on Rhetoric. Notes on Orality and Literacy in Old Polish Culture (Based on the Example of Joannes de Coszycze’s work)The origin of this draft is associated with the conviction that Old Polish literature as a research area had not been totally exploited and inquiry into old literacy does not tend toward the reproduction of analytical meanings. In practice, however, literary historians dealing with old literature continue to work within a circle of the same works, using the same research tools. It seems that the opportunity for “renewal of meaning” would attempt to seek evidence in the literature of ancient oral culture, accompanied by the observation of the transformation of forms of writing into forms of literary writing. The above issue is an initial diagnosis of the problem, accompanying the reading of the work which traces an interesting tension between oral and literate culture, namely Rozmowy, ktore miał krol Salomon mądry z Marchołtem grubym a sprosnym by Joannes de Coszycze. This combination of elements of culture of the word and culture of writing (print) evidence of research potential of the old literature, especially the Old Polish texts, which, seemingly, because of their long–established place in the hierarchy of literary history phenomena, can no longer be interpreted differently. The Polish version of the dialogue between Marchołt and Salomon belongs to this group.

    Opis:
    Th e article is devoted to the specifi c relationship between history and narrative in the most important 17th century Polish diary – Pamiętniki by Jan Chryzostom Pasek. Th e author’s writing strategy resembled the episodic construction of epic literature. Particular plots create separate entities, therefore the narrative consists of sequences of literary scenes. Several methods allow to distinguish these self-contained wholes. Th is may be achieved e.g. by means of a topographical criterion. A very interesting example of this method is an episode from Pasek’s „military mission” to Siedlce (a small town in South-Eastern Poland). Th is small part of Pamiętniki presents the best elements of Pasek’s creative skills: his attractive method of storytelling, sense of humor, witty remarks. Th e most important thing for the writer is the creation of himself, frequently against the historical truth. Th erefore, Pasek’s narrative changes the facts and dominates the history. A contemporary reader is obliged by Pasek to „read between the lines” and to use his historical knowledge in the process of understanding and interpretation.
