Opis:
We were studying on the modeling of boiling water reactor fuel assemblies at pin-by-pin level by using Monte Carlo method. The designed boiling water reactor system is cylinder, and the radius of the cylinder is 228 cm. The total active core height is 315.79 cm. The reactor core was divided into the square lattice 7 × 7 type with a constant pitch of 30 cm. The core was surrounded with the reflector. The reflector was surrounded by SS316LN ferritic steel with width of 3 cm. The mixtures 0.2-1% PuF₄ and PuO₂ were used as fuel. In this study, the effect on the neutronic calculations of PuF₄ and PuO₂ fuels was investigated in the designed boiling water reactor system. There were calculated k_{eff}, heat deposition and the fission energy in the designed boiling water reactor system. The three-dimensional (3D) modelling of the reactor core and fuel assembly into the designed boiling water reactor system was performed by using MCNPX-2.7.0 Monte Carlo method and the ENDF/B nuclear data library.

Opis:
In this study, the effect of impact angle of the particles on solid particle erosive wear properties of basalt base glass-ceramics used for industrial applications was investigated. Commercial basalt glass-ceramic materials size of 20×20×3 cm was sectioned to the size of 5×5×1.2 cm. The experimental procedure was performed by using erosive wear test device with nozzle diameter of 0.78 cm. Na feldspar size of 300 μm was used as erosive media. The samples were fixed 2 cm distance from the nozzle, Na feldspar particles were sprayed by using 1.5, 3, 4 bar pressure for 20 s. The tests were repeated with 30°+45°+60°+75°+90° impact angles. The erosive wear rates were measured and the effect of particle impact angle on wear properties was determined.

Opis:
High precise measurement techniques and surface structure analysis are required in advanced fields of interchangeable manufacturing and precision engineering. This study presents the characterization of the surface roughness of the machined milling cutters by experimental precision measurements and the image processing tool. The data obtained are compared to assess the surface characterization parameters and computational data in terms of precision, accuracy, sensitivity, repeatability and resolution. In the experimental measurement phase, the roughness measurements and surface topography characterization were performed in the nanotechnology laboratory using the stylus profilometry and digital microscopy. The computational phase was performed using an image processing toolbox with precise evaluation of the roughness for the machined metal surfaces of the end mill cutting tool. The surface parameter database is established exhibiting an advantage over the traditional method. This study reveals a comparison methodology of the end mill surface parameters using both stylus readings and image processing software for widely used end mill cutting tools that have considerable effect on characterization of sensitive manufacturing surface of millings.

Opis:
A mathematical model is developed for static analysis of small-scale thinwalled beams having arbitrary cross sections. Constitutive relations of the thin-walled beams are defined upon the two-phase local-nonlocal mixture model with integral formulation. The developed model includes flexural-torsional coupling and warping effects. Governing equations of the thin-walled beams having nonlocal property are derived by using the principle of minimum potential energy. The displacement based finite element method is used to solve both local and nonlocal part of the model. The effect of the nonlocal parameters on the static behavior of micro-scale thin-walled beams having closed and open cross-sections is examined and discussed for various nonlocal parameters and boundary conditions.

Opis:
In this study, the effect of the radiation damage of spent fuel-grade plutonium content was investigated in the structural material of a designed fusion-fission hybrid reactor system. In this study, the molten salt-heavy metal mixtures 99-95% $Li_{20}Sn_{80}-1-5%$ SFG-Pu, 99-95% $Li_{20}Sn_{80}-1-5%$ $SFG-PuF_{4}$, and 99-95% $Li_{20}Sn_{80}-1-5%$ $SFG-PuO_{2}$ were used as fluids. The fluids were used in the liquid first-wall, blanket and shield zones of the designed hybrid reactor system. Four centimeter thick 9Cr2WVTa ferritic steel was used as the structural material. Proton, deuterium, tritium, He-3 and He-4 gas production rates are the parameters of radiation damage. In this study, damage to the total structural material and each 1.0 cm thickness thereof was measured as a function of radiation energy, using the selected fluid rates, for 30 full power years (FPYs). Three-dimensional analyses were performed using the most recent MCNPX-2.7.0 Monte Carlo radiation transport code and the ENDF/B-VII.0 nuclear data library.

Opis:
Pure titanium and its alloys have been widely used in biomedical applications on account of their biological and mechanical properties. Although the mechanical properties of titanium provide acceptable responses under dynamic pressures, surface modifications are needed in order to improve osseointegration between bone-implant interfaces. There are many different surface modification techniques like sand blasting, acid etching, or coating with various materials. Surface characterization is as important as surface modification for dental implants. Although many researchers studied about measurement of surface characteristics of dental implants with similar techniques but with different measurement parameters, there is still no consensus about the optimal surface characteristics values of a successful dental implant. Among many other surface characteristics, surface roughness is one of the most important features for dental implants. In this study, the importance of surface roughness measurement of dental implants is discussed and the need of a standardized procedure for implant surface roughness measurement is emphasized. In our experimental study three different processed surfaces as sand blasted and hydrofluoric acid etched surfaces, sand blasted and nitric acid etched surfaces and blasted surfaces were investigated. Results are compared via each method and each processing technique. It is aimed to highlight the importance of a standardized method for measuring and describing surface characteristics. More definitive, standardized methods are needed to augment the rather existing varied combined measurement parameters which affect the results for the assessment of biomedical surfaces.

Opis:
Mammary tumors in female dogs are usually malignant and tend to metastasize to distant organs, especially to regional lymph nodes and lungs. Radiography is the standard diagnostic method to detect pulmonary metastases in these animals. Magnesium (Mg), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and osteopontin (OPN) levels have been used in recent studies to make prognoses of human breast cancer. To the best of our knowledge, however, there are not many studies that have been performed on this subject, and there is no study on animals in which the three indicators are scrutinized together. The aim of this present study is to evaluate Mg, VEGF, and OPN levels in healthy dogs and in dogs with mammary tumors with/without pulmonary metastases, and to investigate the alterations of these parameters in the serum and tissue samples of dogs with mammary tumors in connection with the histological tumor type and tumor grade. Mammary tumor groups were designed according to the presence of pulmonary metastasis in radiography; group M1 consists of 20 dogs with metastatic mammary tumors to the lung, and group M0 consists of 20 dogs with nonmetastatic mammary tumors. Ten clinically healthy dogs composed group H. The dogs represented different breeds and ages. Threeview thoracic radiographs were taken to determine any metastasis in lungs by digital radiography. Magnesium, VEGF, and OPN were determined in the mammary gland samples and blood serum of 40 dogs with malignant mammary tumors and in 10 healthy dogs. The magnesium levels were measured by atomic absorption spectrophotometry, both in the tissue and serum samples. Also, the tissue and serum VEGF and OPN levels were determined by ELISA with commercially available kits. The tissue Mg levels in the M0 group were significantly (P<0.05) higher than in group H. However, the serum VEGF level was significantly associated with a tumor type. Additionally, the serum OPN levels exhibited a tendency to be higher in dogs with mammary tumors with pulmonary metastases, grade 3, and carcinosarcoma. It is concluded that Mg, VEGF, and OPN could have practical use for diagnosing and understanding the pathophysiology of CMT.
