Opis:
The aim of this note is to advance the refining of the Erdos-Kelly result on graphical inducing regularization. The operation of inducing regulation (on graphs or multigraphs) with prescribed maximum vertex degree is originated by D. Konig in 1916. As is shown by Chartrand and Lesniak in their textbook Graphs & Digraphs (1996), an iterated construction for graphs can result in a regularization with many new vertices. Erdos and Kelly have presented (1963, 1967) a simple and elegant numerical method of determining for any simple n-vertex graph G with maximum vertex degree Δ, the exact minimum number, say 0 = 0(G), of new vertices in a Δ-regular graph H which includes G as an induced subgraph. The number 0(G), which we call the cost of regulation of G, has been upper-bounded by the order of G, the bound being attained for each n ≥ 4, e.g. then the edge-deleted complete graph Kn — e has 0 = n. For n ≥ 4, we present all factors of Kn with 6 = n and next 0 = n — 1. Therein in case 0 = n — 1 and n odd only, we show that a specific extra structure, non-matching, is required. Keywords: inducing A-regulation, cost of regulation.

Opis:
Patients with cleft lip and palate require long-term, multistage and multidisciplinary treatment whose first step is presurgical orthopaedic treatment (PSO). The reconstruction of the lip, alveolar process and nose in these patients are major plastic surgery challenges. Various presurgical procedures are undertaken to achieve optimal surgical outcomes. The aim of this article is to present selected techniques for the presurgical cleft lip and palate treatment in infants and critically evaluate the benefits, limitations and drawbacks of the methods used. The research was based on the literature review using keywords: presurgical treatment of cleft lip and palate in infants, presurgical orthopaedics in the treatment of cleft lip and palate in infants in PubMed, Google Scholar databases, and publications in orthodontics and infant orthopaedics out of these databases. PSO is a minimally invasive therapy performed between birth and first surgery. Anatomical and functional cleft palate disorders constitute indications for PSO. There are positive reports on PSO techniques and some of them can be implemented by the child’s caregivers at home. The authors of studies disagree on the PSO effectiveness. The lack of long-term research results, high costs of therapy and few therapy centres negatively influence the decision to undertake the therapy.

Opis:
A digraph is called irregular if its distinct vertices have distinct degree pairs. An irregular digraph is called minimal (maximal) if the removal of any arc (addition of any new arc) results in a non-irregular digraph. It is easily seen that the minimum sizes among irregular n-vertex whether digraphs or oriented graphs are the same and are asymptotic to $ (\sqrt{2} // 3) n^{3//2} $; maximum sizes, however, are asymptotic to $ n^2 $ and $ n^2 // 2 $, respectively. Let s stand for the sum of initial positive integers,$s = 1, 3, 6, .... $ An oriented graph $ H_s $ and a digraph $ F_s $, both large (in terms of the size), minimal irregular, and on any such s vertices, $ s \ge 21 $, are constructed in [Large minimal irregular digraphs, Opuscula Math. 23 (2003) 21–24], co-authored by Z. D-H. and three more of the present co-authors (Z.M., J.M., Z.S.). In the present paper we nearly complete these constructions. Namely, a large minimal irregular digraph $ F_n $, respectively oriented graph $ H_n $, are constructed for any of remaining orders $n$, $n > 21$, and of size asymptotic to $ n^2 $, respectively to $ n^2 // 2$. Also a digraph $ \Phi_n $ and an oriented graph $ G_n $, both small maximal irregular of any order $ n \ge 6 $, are constructed. The asymptotic value of the size of $ G_n $ is at least $ ( \sqrt{2} // 3) n^{3//2} $ and is just the least if $ n = s \rightarrow \infty $, but otherwise the value is at most four times larger and is just the largest if $ n = s − 1 \rightarrow \infty $. On the other hand, the size of $ \Phi_n $ is of the asymptotic order $ \Theta (n^{3//2} ) $.

Opis:
5 maja 2020 r.
On May 5, 2020, the German Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) ruled on the legality of the public sector asset purchase program established by the European System of Central Banks (ESCB). What is particularly important, this issue was the subject of a preliminary ruling by the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), issued following an inquiry from a German court. The FCC’s decision is of particular importance in the context of plans to launch a European Reconstruction Fund to combat the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. The German court questioned the treaty bases of the decisions of the European Central Bank (ECB) on the basis of which the bonds were issued. What is particularly important, the German court emphasized not only the right, but even the obligation to examine by the constitutional courts of the EU Member States whether the activity of European institutions goes beyond the powers conferred on them in the treaties (ultra vires). The content of this decision and its extensive justification will certainly have a great impact on the functioning of the European Union.

Opis:
Among bone tumours, Osteosarcoma (OS), Chondrosarcoma (CS) and Fibrosarcoma (FS) are highly metastatic with poor prognostic for survival. Standard procedures as surgery resection, radiotherapy and chemotherapy do not lead to full recovery or they do not affect metastasis [1-4]. Nowadays new molecular targets to cure cancer are during clinical trials. Clinical trials for OS are focused on using monoclonal antibody (dinutuximab) [5], immunotherapy (as using GM-CSF with influence on white blood cells) [6] or compounds acting as VEGFR inhibitor or PDGFR inhibitor - to reduce metastasis [7-9]. Clinical trials for CS are targeting the hedgehog pathway, focused on its inhibition [10], inhibition of IDH1/2 (common mutation in CS leading to hypermethylation) [11] or, as in OS treatment, inhibition of metastasis by acting on VEGFR [12]. Beyond new chemotherapy and chemotherapy correlated with radiotherapy [13] clinical trials for FS are targeting gene fusion NTRK acting through inhibition of tropomyosin kinase receptor [14]. This approach to treatment is a novelty on the global scale [15]. Nitric oxide (NO) has many biological functions, e.g.: acting as neurotransmitter, reduced aggregation of platelets, acting as EDRF or reducing the oxidative stress in tumours [16-18]. Due to the dual nature of NO [19] anti-proliferative, pro-apoptotic and cell cycle arrest effect of NO were observed [20-25]. It could be a new area to find novel anti-cancer compound. One of the molecular targets under the scientists consideration is the activation of nitric oxide synthase (NOS). Górska-Ponikowska et al. [26-28] focused on experiments on OS 143B cells with 2-methoxyestradiol (2-ME) treatment, potentially novel compound playing the role of n-NOS activator. The researchers reported influence of 2-ME on down-regulation of mitochondrial biogenesis via direct influence on n-NOS level in OS 143B cells. What is more, L-lactate was indicated as potential molecular marker of anticancer therapy of tumours with metastasis.

Opis:
Microbial virulence is the ability of pathogen to penetrate, replicate, multiplícate and, as a consequence, damage the cells of the infected organism. In recent years, rapid progress in bacterial genome sequencing has led to the discovery and characterization of many new virulence factors. One of the many mechanisms of bacterial virulence is the activity of bacterial kinases and phosphatases. These enzymes phosphorylate and dephosphorylate various amino acid residues in proteins, most commonly serine, tyrosine and threonine. Reversible phosphorylation and dephosphorylation can control the activity of target proteins, either directly, by inducing conformational changes in proteins, or indirectly, by regulating protein-protein interactions. Due to the increasing antibiotic resistance, new substances that could be used to treat diseases caused by resistant bacterial strains are sought. One of the possibilities seems to be the inhibition of bacterial tyrosine phosphatases. Phosphorylation of proteins containing tyrosine residues is a key post-translational modification that controls the numerous cellular functions in bacteria. So far, many tyrosine phosphatases have been found to be responsible for the virulence of various bacterial strains. Many bacterial species use protein tyrosine phosphatases activity in host-pathogen interaction, by affecting signalling pathways and subsequent induction of the infection process. Many studies are devoted to the search for tyrosine phosphatases inhibitors in the context of possible support of the current antibacterial treatment. This article presents a review of reports on bacterial virulence factors-protein tyrosine phosphatases as potential therapeutic targets.
