Copper-ion activation plays a highly important role in cervantite (Sb2O4) flotation. Without metal-ion activation, cervantite cannot be floated by sodium oleate. In this study, flotation tests were conducted to study the effect of Cu2+ on the flotation behaviours of cervantite and quartz (SiO2) as the main gangue mineral. Metal-ion adsorption capacities, zeta potentials, solution chemistry and X-ray photoelectron spectra were analyzed to study the adsorption behavior and mechanism of copper ions and sodium oleate interaction with the minerals surfaces. The results demonstrate that under weakly acidic conditions, cervantite can be flotated and separated from quartz by the addition of copper ions. The reason is that copper ions can be selectively adsorbed on the cervantite surface under weakly acidic conditions, thereby promoting the adsorption of sodium oleate onto the cervantite surface by chemical adsorption. Conversely, copper ions are weakly adsorbed on quartz surfaces below pH 6.1, and sodium oleate cannot be adsorbed on quartz surfaces by chemical adsorption. The hydroxy copper species are integral to the selective activation of cervantite over quartz.

By calculating the energy-saving benefits of a variable-speed pump, the relation between back pressure and energy-saving benefits is analyzed. Based on the energy-saving benefit calculation for four different pump types using a non-dimensional method, it is shown that when the non-dimensional back pressure, h, and the non-dimensional flow, Q, are equal, then the corresponding non-dimensional energy-saving benefit [omega] of variable-speed control are quite close each to other, thereby advancing a forecasting method of energy-saving benefits of variable-speed control. When the method is used to forecast the energy-saving benefits of pumps whose specific speed is between 15 and 190 and the flow - between 5 and 200 m3/h (subject to the condition h<; 0.9, Q> 0.5), the error will not exceed 6.55% and thus the method proves to be of reference value for the evaluation of the variable-speed energy-saving benefits of other pumps.

Aiming at a closed-loop water system of HVAC engineering, the authors put forward an evaluation method of systems' stability based on sensitivity. It has three evaluating indexes: [alfa] - the summation of flow changes in other subcircuits influenced by resistance change in a certain subcircuit [Beta] - the summation of flow changes in a certain sub circuit influenced by resistance changes in other subcircuits; [gamma] - average [Beta] (or [alfa]) value of each subcircuit, reflecting the strength of regulating interference between subcircuits. The method is used to analyze the stability of a reverse return system (RRS) and a direct return system (DRS). The DRS subcircuit farthest from the heat source and the middle RRS are the least stable. Stability of the whole RRS is inferior to that of the DRS.

The paper is composed of six parts and presents the software tools created in the scope of the Poland-Singapore Joint Research Project, the Integrated Safety and Reliability Decision Support System – IS&RDSS. In the paper first part, there are briefly described all computer programs with pointed aims. Dependencies between computer programs and possible transitions using this integrated package of software tools are presented at the scheme algorithm. In the remaining paper parts, there is presented the application of the computer programs, being in the package of software tools, to the reliability analysis of an exemplary complex technical system.

There is presented the application of the integrated software tools to the operation and reliability of an exemplary complex technical system prediction. The computer program CP 8.5 is used to determine the unconditional mean sojourn times and the limit transient probabilities of the exemplary system operation process at the particular operation states evaluations. Using the computer program CP 8.6 there are performed the evaluations of the exemplary system unconditional multistate reliability function, the expected values and the standard deviations of its unconditional lifetimes in the reliability state subsets and the mean values of its lifetimes in the particular reliability states. Finally, in the case when the system is repairable, its renewal and availability characteristics are estimated from the results of computer program CP 8.8.

There is presented the application of the integrated software tools to the operation and reliability models of an exemplary complex technical system unknown parameters identification. There are performed in the paper, the exemplary system operation and reliability analysis and modelling. Ultrasound has a wide range of applications in oil sands separation industry due to its green and nopolluting characteristics. The combined ultrasounds technology has been widely used in many industries by virtue of the synergistic effect of cavitation effect; meanwhile, dual-frequency ultrasounds have been reported being used in lotion oil sands technology. Based on this idea, this study focuses on the application of multiple frequency ultrasounds in oil sands separation, and a comparative study has been conducted between the combined ultrasounds systems with the difference in the number of the ultrasound. The results show that the oil production rate of the samples treated by the lotion of sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS) and assisted by multiple frequency ultrasounds (96%) is significantly higher than that of the single frequency ultrasound (76%); the bigger the number of the ultrasound participating in the combination is, the higher the oil production rate of the oil sands is; the lower the frequency of the ultrasounds employed in the combined system is, the higher the oil production rate is. The optimum treating conditions for tri-frequency ultrasounds assisted technology are as follow: the treating time is 10-15 min, the treating temperature is 20-30°C, the concentration of surfactant in the lotion is 1.5 g/l, and the mass ratio of the lotion to oil sands is 1.8. In short, the use of multiple frequency ultrasounds can improve the oil production rate of oil sands, reduce the energy consumption during the separation process, and reduce the environmental contamination; therefore, multiple frequency ultrasounds assisted oil sands separation technology is a promising technology for oil sands resources exploitation with high efficiency.
