Opis:
This paper presents our research and development work on new circuits and topologies based on Magnetic RAM for use as configuration memory elements of reconfigurable arrays. MRAM provides non volatility with cell areas and with access speeds comparable to those of SRAM and with lower process complexity than FLASH memories. The new memory cells take advantage of the Thermal Assisted Switching (TAS) writing technique to solve the drawbacks of the more common Field Induced Magnetic Switching writing technique. The CMOS circuit structures to implement the main components for reading and writing the MTJ cells have been developed, characterized and evaluated. A scaled down prototype of a coarse grain reconfigurable array that employs the TAS-MRAM elements as configuration memory has been designed and electrically simulated pre- and post- layout. The results obtained for all the circuit elements, namely the storage cells and the current generators, indicate that the new configuration memory cells can provide a very promising technological solution for run-time reconfigurable hardware devices. The prototype has been manufactured using a standard process 0.35μm 4-Metal CMOS process technology and should be under test in the foreseeable future.

Opis:
The research aimed to establish tyre-road noise models by using a Data Mining approach that allowed to build a predictive model and assess the importance of the tested input variables. The data modelling took into account three learning algorithms and three metrics to define the best predictive model. The variables tested included basic properties of pavement surfaces, macrotexture, megatexture, and unevenness and, for the first time, damping. Also, the importance of those variables was measured by using a sensitivity analysis procedure. Two types of models were set: one with basic variables and another with complex variables, such as megatexture and damping, all as a function of vehicles speed. More detailed models were additionally set by the speed level. As a result, several models with very good tyre-road noise predictive capacity were achieved. The most relevant variables were Speed, Temperature, Aggregate size, Mean Profile Depth, and Damping, which had the highest importance, even though influenced by speed. Megatexture and IRI had the lowest importance. The applicability of the models developed in this work is relevant for trucks tyre-noise prediction, represented by the AVON V4 test tyre, at the early stage of road pavements use. Therefore, the obtained models are highly useful for the design of pavements and for noise prediction by road authorities and contractors.

Opis:
Grazing incidence X-ray scattering measurements have been performed to probe the structure of CoFe/Ru layers and their interfaces. It was found that the interface width increased approximately linearly with the layer number from the substrate in a multilayer and that a substantial asymmetry existed between the width of CoFe/Ru and Ru/CoFe interfaces. By co-minimizing both the specular and diffuse scatter with that simulated from a model structure, the topological roughness amplitude was determined to be comparable to the intermixing interface width.

Opis:
Spasticity is one of the main causes of contracture, muscle weakness and subsequent functional incapacity. The passive static stretching can be included as having the purpose of increasing musculoskeletal flexibility, however, it also can influence the muscle torque. The objective is to verify the immediate effect of passive static stretching in the muscle strength of healthy and those who present spastic hemiparesis. There were assessed 20 subjects, 10 spastic hemiparetic (EG) and 10 healthy individuals (CG), including both sexes, aged between 22 and 78 years. The torque of extensor muscles of the knee was analyzed using isokinetic dynamometer. Results have shown that EG has less muscle torque compared to CG ( p < 0.01). In addition, EG presented a decrease in significance of muscle torque after stretching ( p < 0.05), however, it has not shown significant alteration in muscle torque of CG after performing the program that was prescribed. Immediately after the passive stretch, a significant torque decrease can be seen in hypertonic muscle; it is believed that this reduction may be associated with the physiological overlap between actin and myosin filaments and so preventing the muscle to develop a maximum contraction.

Opis:
Root-knot nematodes, genus Meloidogyne, are among the most plant damaging pathogens worldwide. The action of natural products against plant pathogens has been investigated to assess their effectiveness in the control of diseases. Thus, the present study aimed to evaluate the phytochemistry potential of the Ficus species for the control of Meloidogyne javanica. In vitro inhibitory activity assays were performed with crude ethanolic extracts of leaves and branches from 10 Ficus species. Among these, Ficus carica extracts exhibited strong paralysis activity against second stage juveniles (J2) (EC50 = 134.90 μg ∙ ml–1 ), after 72 hours. In addition, high efficacy was observed in egg-hatching inhibition at different embryonic stages. Microscopy analysis revealed severe morphological alterations in the nematode tissues at the J2 stage, as well as immotility of juveniles released from eggs in the presence of F. carica extracts. The efficacy of the treatments for the other species was very low. These differences were supported by the variation in the compound classes, mainly for alkaloids and metabolite profiles by Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) when F. carica was compared with the other species. The results indicated that F. carica is a promising source for the isolation and identification of molecules capable of acting in the control of M. javanica.
