Opis:: W pracy przedstawiono krótką historię oraz rezultaty badań klimatu Gdańska i Gdyni. Początek badań klimatu Gdańska wiąże się z rozpoczęciem pomiarów i obserwacji meteorologicznych w 1739 roku. W ostatnich dekadach XIX wieku bardzo wzrosło znaczenie badań klimatu miasta na rzecz zapewnienia bezpieczeństwa żeglugi i pracy portu. W dwudziestoleciu międzywojennym funkcjonowały w Gdańsku i Gdyni duże obserwatoria meteorologiczne. Prowadzono wówczas prace na rzecz rozpoznania lokalnych warunków klimatycznych, w tym zjawiska bryzy morskiej. W okresie powojennym podjęto zaawansowane badania terenowe pozwalające na określenie charakterystycznych cech przestrzennej zmienności elementów me-teorologicznych w Gdyni i Gdańsku. Ostatnie dekady XX wieku oraz obecne czasy to prace z zakresu klimatologii stosowanej obszarów zurbanizowanych.
A short history and the results of urban climate research in Gdańsk and Gdynia are presented in the paper. The initial research of Gdańsk’s climate was associated with the early beginning of meteorological measurements in 1739. In the last decades of the 19th century, the importance of studies devoted to ensuring the safety of shipping and harbour activity increased significantly. The interwar period was characterized by great development of meteorological observatories in Gdańsk and Gdynia. The research efforts were particularly dedicated to the recognition of local climatic conditions, including the phenom-enon of sea breeze. In the post-war period, advanced field research was undertaken to characterize the characteristic features of spatial variability of meteorological elements in Gdynia and Gdańsk. Various aspects of applied urban climatology are present in the research of the last decades of the 20th century and present times.

Opis:: This article is an analysis of how the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) constituent bodies governance reform (WMO Reform) can affect the activities of the Polish National Hydrological and Meteorological Service. The analysis employs the SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) model. The World Meteorological Congress is the highest authority of the World Meteorological Organization, whose findings guide the operations of the WMO and the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) globally. During the 18th Congress, in June 2019, discussions covered the routine operations of the WMO and its Secretariat, the status and development prospects of all the Organization's research and technical programs, and the Organization's budget for the 18th financial period beginning in 2020. The key actions of the Congress, however, were the election of the WMO senior officers and final approval (after thorough discussion) of the WMO Reform of its governance structure. The purpose of the Reform is to ensure better preparation of the organization for the challenges of the present and future, such as climate change and its impact, the growing number and intensity of extreme weather events, environmental degradation, and increasing urbanization. The tasks of the National Hydrological and Meteorological Service in Poland are performed by the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management - National Research Institute (IMGW-PIB), in accordance with the provisions of the Water Law.

Opis:: Objectives Web information systems may serve as a diagnostic tool for the Internet users and they also support the epidemiological work of doctors and health care providers. As part of this study, a system has been created for detecting and calculating cardiovascular risk. The aim of this study has been the comparison of cardiovascular risk factors and calculated fatal cardiovascular risk in 2 periods of time: 2004–2009 and 2010–2015 in Poland, as determined via the Internet. Material and Methods The “Ryzyko program” (“Risk program”) is available on the website of the Medical University of Gdańsk. To assess the cardiovascular death risk in a 10-year period, the algorithm of the SCORE (Systematic Coronary Risk Evaluation) project was used and 30 402 results of the algorithm have been analyzed. Results Over 30 402 webpage visitors entered the required data and received the outcome. More than 78% of the Internet users who had entered the data, received a recommendation for medical check-up. Significant differences between the data collected in 2004– 2009 and 2010–2015 were noticed. Hypercholesterolemia prevalence (67.3% vs. 70.8%; p < 0.001), mean total cholesterol concentration in blood (5.60±1.65 mml/l vs. 5.66±1.35 mml/l; p < 0.001), prevalence of hypertension (36.6% vs. 35.3%; p = 0.039), mean systolic blood pressure (131.5±20.3 mm Hg vs. 132.6±18.0 mm Hg; p < 0.001), prevalence of declared smoking (30.7% vs. 26.5%; p < 0.001), declared diabetes mellitus (DM) (6.4% vs. 9.7%; p < 0.001), and declared coronary artery disease (CAD) (7.2% vs. 14.1%; p < 0.001), respectively. Conclusions The prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors has changed during the observed period of time. Online automatic gathering of new data by “Ryzyko program” provides up-to-date observations.
