Opis:
Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) is an economically important swine pathogen and, although small, it has the highest evolution rate among DNA viruses. Commercial PCV2 commercial vaccines are inactivated PCV2 isolates or a subunit vaccine based on the Cap protein of PCV2. Currently, PCV2 VLPs of individual subtype vaccines are available. Although the main prevalent genotype worldwide is PCV2b, the emerging subtype PCV2d subtype is also increasingly associated with PCV disease. The aim of the study was to evaluate the protective efficacy of VLP based on the PCV2b and 2d subtypes against the mixed challenge of two hypotype PCV2 in mice. Thirty-six female SPV Kunming mice were immunized twice with PCV2b and 2d VLPs, then challenged with PCV2b and PCV2d, to assess the immunogenicity and effectiveness of the VLPs. Vaccination of the mice with PCV2b and 2d VLPs elicited a robust antibody response specific for the PCV2. The virus load detected in the 2b and 2d spleen vaccine group was the lowest compared to other groups. Furthermore, there was no pathological damage in the HE stained sections of the 2b and 2d spleen vaccine, and no virus was detected in the immunohistochemical sections. Our data suggest that the mixed PCV2b and 2d VLP vaccine could protect mice from challenge with the mixed infection of PCV2b and PCV2d.

The COVID-19 pandemic changed the lives of millions of citizens worldwide in the manner they live and work to the so-called new norm in social standards. In addition to the extraordinary effects on society, the pandemic created a range of unique circumstances associated with cybercrime that also affected society and business. The anxiety due to the pandemic increased the probability of successful cyberattacks and as well as number and range. For public health officials and communities, location tracking is an essential component in the their efforts to combat the disease. The governments provide a lot of mobile apps to help health officials to trace the infected persons and contact them to aid and follow up on the health status, which requires an exchange of data in different forms. This paper presents the one-time stamp model as a new cryptography technique to secure different contact forms and protect the privacy of the infected person. The one-time stamp hybrid model consists of a combination of symmetric, asymmetric, and hashing cryptography in an entirely new way that is different from conventional and similar existing algorithms. Several experiments have been carried out to analyze and examine the proposed technique. Also, a comparison study has been made between our proposed technique and other state-of-the-art alternatives. Results show that the proposed one-time stamp model provides a high level of security for the encryption of sensitive data relative to other similar techniques with no extra computational cost besides faster processing time.

Opis:
A proof of concept for using paper test as a suitable method in the production of monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) is reported. The paper test which detects antibodies against porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) using colloidal gold-labelled capsid protein as the antigen probe was applied exclusively in the screening of anti-PCV2 MAbs. It allowed the detection of 118 single cell clones within 30 min using naked eyes. MAbs with specific binding to authentic epitopes on the virus were selected using a blocking strategy in which the antibody was pre-incubated with PCV2 viral sample before applying to the test paper. Five hybridomas secreting MAbs against the capsid protein were obtained, with only three of them capable of binding to PCV2. The results were validated and confirmed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and immunofluorescence assay. The paper test is simple, rapid, and independent on professional technicians and proves to be an excellent approach for the screening of MAbs against specific targets.

Opis:
Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) is one of the world’s most important cultivated vegetable. In the traditional cultivation methods, the excessive use of pesticides and fertilizers leads to an imbalance of nutrient elements in the soil, an increase in pests and diseases and a decrease in vegetable quality and yield. In the face of increasingly serious environmental and food problems, organic agriculture is considered to be an effective solution. In this experiment, the effects of organic cultivation patterns on the growth, quality, disease resistance in tomatoes, and the physical and chemical properties of soil were studied by different treatments. The results showed that the application of effective microorganisms (EM) bio-organic fertilizer in the cultivation process can significantly improve the yield, quality, and antioxidant enzyme activity of tomato. The use of straw mulching was found to significantly increase the growth, chlorophyll content, transpiration rate, and soluble sugar content of tomatoes. The application of EM bio-organic fertilizer or straw mulching significantly increased the activity of antioxidant enzyme and the expression of LeCHI gene in tomato leaves and enhanced tomato resistance to diseases. Organic production practices were found to significantly improve the soil.

Impact of climate change on crop growth is dynamic and difficult to quantify due to heterogeneity of the associated effects and their interactions within the Earth system. The main objective of this study is to establish how future climate change might affect agriculture, through an assessment of temperature and precipitation driven parameters. These include percentage number of rainy days with extreme precipitation, percentage of extreme precipitation relative to wet days, first fall frost days, last spring frost days, growing degree days, growing season length and the total precipitation. Results show modest increase in total precipitation with a slight increase in extreme precipitation, representing up to 2.2% increase by 2060 under representative concentration pathway (RCP 8.5) scenario. There would be late first fall frost days, early last spring frost days and increased growing season length by up to 2 weeks in 2060. The growing degree days are projected to increase under all scenarios for all crops, with cotton showing the largest increase of up to 37% relative to the baseline period.
Analizowano następujące parametry: udział (w %) dni deszczowych z ekstremalnym opadem, udział ekstremalnych opadów w stosunku do opadów ogółem, pierwsze jesienne dni z mrozem, ostatnie wiosenne dni z mrozem, stopniodni w sezonie wegetacyjnym, długość sezonu wegetacyjnego, i sumę opadów. Wyniki wykazują umiarkowany wzrost całkowitych opadów i niewielki wzrost opadów ekstremalnych – do 2,2% do roku 2060 wg scenariusza Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP 8.5). W 2060 roku pierwsze jesienne dni z mrozem wystąpią później, ostatnie wiosenne dni z mrozem wystąpią wcześniej, a sezon wegetacyjny wydłuży się o ok. 2 tygodnie.

Opis:
Mycorrhizal mycelium can simultaneously colonize two and more neighboring plants to form common mycelium network (CMNs), whereas the information regarding CMN effects on endogenous signal substances is limited. In this study, a rootbox was separated by 37- or 0.45-μm mesh to establish donor chamber (the presence of roots and hyphae) and receptor (hyphae presented or not, free of roots) chamber, where an arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungus Paraglomus occultum was inoculated into trifoliate orange seedlings of donor chamber to illustrate the underground communications of signal substances by CMNs. Mycorrhizal colonization resulted in better plant growth performance and greater root morphology in donor and receptor plants. AM inoculation increased significantly the root nitric oxide (NO) and calmodulin (CaM) levels of donor plants, regardless of 37- and 0.45-μm mesh, and subsequent CMNs induced higher root NO and CaM levels in receptor plants. Mycorrhizal colonization did not produce significant changes in root zeatin riboside (ZR) levels of donor plants, but CMN hyphae modulated lower root ZR levels of receptor plants. Mycorrhizal inoculation and subsequent CMN hyphae induced lower root gibberellin levels of donor and receptor plants, and only CMN hyphae produced lower root methyl jasmonate concentrations of receptor plants. Our results first reveal the underground communication of CaM, NO, and ZR by CMNs with P. occultum between trifoliate orange seedlings.

Opis:
Agro-forestry (AFR) technologies are perceived to improve livelihoods and natural resource sustainability of the rural households. Despite their aggressive promotion by multiple national and international agencies, the adoption of AFR technologies has been minimal in Kenya. This study conducted a survey to examine the socio-economic factors that affect the adoption process in Nyando, Kenya. Results revealed that farmers with bigger farms and higher education were more likely to adopt the new technology. Additionally, farmers were quicker to adopt technology if they had an increase in crop yields and had stayed longer in the study area. Generally, wealthier famers tended to adopt more AFR technology than those with less income. Access to information was the only factor strongly correlated with the rest of the independent variables. The results suggest that, adoption would be more enhanced with a clear focus on extension activities, income enhancing AFR practices and soil amelioration technologies. This study may be replicated in other parts of Kenya and East Africa to improve the level of AFR technology adoption for sustainable rural development.
Wyniki sugerują, że wdrożenie tych technologii byłoby powszechniejsze, gdyby większą uwagę poświęcono dodatkowym działaniom, praktykom AFR zwiększającym przychody rolników i technologiom poprawiającym jakość gleb. Takie badania można powtórzyć w innych regionach Kenii i wschodniej Afryki, aby zwiększyć poziom stosowania technologii AFR w celu zrównoważonego rozwoju obszarów wiejskich.

Opis:
In this study the effects and mechanism of lead ions influence on wolframite flotation with benzohydroxamic acid (BHA) were studied through micro-flotation, adsorption experiments, zeta potential measurements, logarithmic concentration diagram, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. It was observed that lead ions could significantly enhance the recovery of wolframite in flotation and adsorption density of collector BHA onto the wolframite surface. The results showed that Pb existed in the forms of lead ion, monohydric lead, and lead hydroxide at the water-wolframite interface respectively, at three pH ranges. They increased the zeta potential of wolframite. However, the zeta potential of wolframite was still negative, resulting in repulsive electrostatic force to anionic collector BHA. Combining with XPS spectra, it revealed the chemisorption of BHA onto the wolframite surface. In addition, PbO or Pb(OH)2 was observed on the wolframite surface due to the reaction between lead ions and wolframite. These reaction products increased the adsorption site of BHA on the wolframite surface because Pb-hydroxamate was found on the wolframite surface.

The effect of pH on surface characteristic and flotation of sulfidized cerussite was studied by micro-flotation tests, dissolution experiments, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The micro-flotation tests demonstrated that higher recovery of cerussite was achieved in acidic solutions than that in alkaline solutions. Despite the addition of high collector concentrations, cerussite flotation did not improved in alkaline solutions. The dissolution performance of sulfide-treated cerussite at different pH values indicated that the lead sulfide layer on the surface of sulfide-treated cerussite could exist in acidic solutions and it was more stable at acidic pH than in alkaline solutions. This finding was proved by the SEM-EDS and XPS analyses.

Opis:
Reactive materials (RMs) or impact-initiated materials have received much attention as a class of energetic materials in recent years. To assess the influence of processing techniques on mechanical properties and impact initiation behaviors of an Al-PTFE reactive material, quasi -static compression tests and drop-weight tests were performed. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to identify the characteristics of the interior microstructures of the Al-PTFE samples. A sintering process was found to transform Al-PTFE from a brittle to a ductile material with an increased elasticity modulus (from 108-160 MPa to 256-336 MPa) and yield stress (from 12-16 MPa to 19-20 MPa). Increasing the molding pressure from 36 MPa to 182 MPa increased the elastic modulus of all Al-PTFE samples and also the yield stress of unsintered ones. Unsintered samples in general required less energy to initiate than sintered ones. As the molding pressure increased, the impact initiation energy for sintered Al-PTFE fell from 96 J to 68 J, whereas the initiation energy for unsintered Al-PTFE rose from 68 J to 85 J. PTFE nanofiber networks observed in sintered samples formed under the higher molding pressures could contribute to the opposite trends observed in the impact initiation energy of unsintered and sintered Al-PTFE samples.

Opis:
Amorphous alloys or metallic glasses have attracted significant interest in the materials science and engineering communities due to their unique physical, mechanical, and chemical properties. The viscous flow of amorphous alloys exhibiting high strain rate sensitivity and homogeneous deformation is considered to be an important characteristic in thermoplastic forming processes performed within the supercooled liquid region because it allows superplastic-like deformation behavior. Here, the correlation between the superheated liquid fragility, and the onset temperature of crystallization for Al-based alloys, is investigated. The activation energy for viscous flow of the liquid is also investigated. There is a negative correlation between the parameter of superheated liquid fragility and the onset temperature of crystallization in the same Al-based alloy system. The activation energy decreases as the onset temperature of crystallization increases. This indicates that the stability of a superheated liquid can affect the thermal stability of the amorphous alloy. It also means that a liquid with a large superheated liquid fragility, when rapidly solidified, forms an amorphous alloy with a low thermal stability.

The leaching kinetics of cerussite in alkaline medium was investigated with respect to experimental variables such as sodium hydroxide concentration, temperature, particle size and stirring speed. The results showed that leaching reagent concentration and reaction temperature exerted significant effects on the extraction of lead, whereas particle size and stirring speed exhibited a relatively moderate effect on the leaching rate. The leaching process followed the kinetic law of the shrinking core model, and the dissolution rates were controlled by the surface chemical reaction with an apparent activation energy value of 43.79 kJ/mol. A corresponding dissolution kinetic equation was also proposed to describe the dissolution reaction. The results indicated that sodium hydroxide could be used as an effective leaching reagent for extracting lead from cerussite.

Pleuronema elegans spec. nov. can be recognized by the combination of the following characters: size in vivo 90–115 × 45–60 µm, slender oval in outline with a distinctly pointed posterior end; about 10 prolonged caudal cilia; consistently two preoral kineties and 18 or 19 somatic kineties; membranelle 2a double-rowed with its posterior end straight; membranelle 3 three-rowed; one macronucleus; marine habitat. Uronema orientalis spec. nov. is distinguished by the following features: in vivo about 40–55 × 20–30 μm with a truncated apical plate; consistently twenty somatic kineties; membranelle 1 single-rowed and divided into two parts which comprise four and three basal bodies respectively; contractile vacuole pore positioned at the end of the second somatic kinety; marine habitat. We also provide improved diagnoses for P. grolierei Wang et al., 2008 and P. setigerum Calkins, 1902 based on current and previous reports. The small subunit rRNA gene of U. orientalis, P. elegans, P. grolierei and P. puytoraci were sequenced. Phylogenetic analyses indicate that Uronema and Pleuronema are not monophyletic.

Opis:
Polygonum orientale with beautiful red flowers can be found as one dominant species in the vicinity of most water bodies and wetlands in China. However, its phytoremediation potential has not been sufficiently explored because little is known about its resistance to inorganic or organic pollutants. We investigated P. orientale response to low and moderate levels of phenol stress (≤ 80 mg L-1). Endpoints included phenol tolerance of P. orientale and the removal of the pollutant, antioxidant enzyme activities, damage to the cell membrane, osmotic regulators and photosynthetic pigments. In plant leaves, phenol stress significantly increased the activities of peroxidase (POD) and catalase (CAT), as well as the contents of proline, soluble sugars and carotenoids, whereas superoxide dismutase (SOD), H2O2 and electrolyte leakage (EL) levels remained unaltered.
