In NINO HARATISCHWILIS Roman Das achte Leben (Für Brilka) versucht die Erzählerin Niza vergeblich, die sowjetische Geschichte Georgiens und die individuelle Geschichte ihrer Familie zwischen 1900 und 2006 aufeinander bezogen darzustellen. Der Aufsatz argumentiert, dass in den Defiziten des Erzählprogramms Nizas Widersprüche einer für den Generationenroman typischen Erzählpoetik produktiv gemacht werden, der es nicht gelingt, individuelle, familiäre und politische Geschichte zu einem sinnstiftenden Narrativ zu verbinden. Am Ende des Romans steht deshalb ein Medienwechsel von der literarischen Geschichtsdarstellung zu ihrer performativen Verkörperung im Tanz, in dem die theatrale Adaption des Romans, wie sie JETTE STECKEL 2017 am Thalia Theater Hamburg inszenierte, bereits angelegt ist.
In NINO HARATISCHWILI’S Das achte Leben (Für Brilka) the novel’s narrator, Niza, unsuccessfully attempts to relate Georgia’s Soviet history and her family’s history between 1900 and 2006. The paper argues that the deficits in Niza’s narrative programme are actually productive contradictions, which are typical of the narrative poetics of the generational novel, in that it does not succeed in synthesising the individual, familial and political histories into one meaningful narrative. The end of the novel therefore changes to a new medium: from the literary representation of history, to its performative embodiment in dance. This anticipates the theatrical adaptation of the novel by JETTE STECKEL at the Thalia Theater Hamburg in 2017.
W powieści NINO HARATISCHWILI Das achte Leben (Für Brilka) (Ósme życie – dla Brilki) narratorka Niza podejmuje nieudane próby przedstawienia radzieckiej historii Gruzji oraz związanej z nią indywidualnej historii swojej własnej rodziny w latach 1900-2006. Artykuł dostrzega w deficytach opowiadania Nizy sprzeczności. Wynikają one z wykorzystania poetyki narracyjnej, charakterystycznej dla powieści pokoleniowej, której nie udaje się powiązać ze sobą historii indywidualnej, rodzinnej i politycznej w jedno, mające wspólny sens opowiadanie. Koniec powieści posługuje się w związku z tym nowym medium: rezygnuje z literackiego opowiadania o historii i przechodzi do jej performatywnego ucieleśnienia w tańcu. Antycypuje ono adaptację teatralną, jaką była w 2017 r. inscenizacja JETTY STECKEL w Teatrze Thalia w Hamburgu.

A small group of richly decorated spurs has been known for a long time for their characteristic non-ferrous metal covering as well as massive bronze or brass thorn points. Most of them have been found in in the states of Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. They are so similar that they could have been manufactured, if not in the same workshop, at least in the same region. The embossed metal sheath, reminiscent of the Late Slavic technology of sheath fittings, could indicate a the Slavic craft tradition. The latest find from a deserted village of Kastaven near Sähle, Oberhavel district in northern Brandenburg, sheds new light on this group of objects. The Kastaven spur has been found in the central area of the settlement which existed between the early 13th and the 15th centuries, in the vicinity of ruins of a church or a churchyard. The spur was probably lost at the village foundation phase, in the early 13th century. This context is of importance to the disputed chronology of the entire spur group, dated back to the late 12th and the early 13th centuries. The finds in Hamburg, Holstein, Eastern Mecklenburg and Northern Brandenburg indicate contacts between the élites in the southwest of the Baltic, related to migrations of petty nobility within the German Eastern Settlement or a communication network of the Slavic Leaders in the Abodrite/Mecklenburg cultural area.

A research on climate change needs normative visions and principles to provide orientation and to line up normative requirements. This may enable to provide a comprehensive view on energy and climate topics. This contribution, while dealing with justice, gives a perspective from ethics respectively from a (re)interpretation of national constitutions, the EU Charter of fundamental rights and the European convention on human rights in the light of sustainability. It takes us to human rights as the basic norm of any liberal democratic constitution (on national and transnational level), but criticizes the academic international law debate (unlike the practice of international law) which seems to be focused on the idea of even absolute, i.e. not subject to any balancing, environmental fundamental rights. Overall, it turns out that an interpretation of fundamental rights which is more multipolar and considers the conditions for freedom more heavily – as well as the freedom of future generations and of people in other parts of the world – develops a greater commitment to climate protection. Regarding the theory of balancing, for the purpose of a clear balance of powers the usual principle of proportionality also proves specifiable.

How can a local Church be, at the same time, a credible, convincing witness to Christ’s Kingdom and pro-active in the attitude of openness, reconciliation, understanding and collaboration? In other words, how to be God’s people in mission and in dialogue? Letter to a New Bishop offers theological grounds and provides some suggestions and material for a truly Catholic encounter with other believers. It begins with a brief overview of the relevant terminology: mission, evangelisation, interreligious dialogue and proclamation. It then proposes several concrete propositions of how to set up and run a diocesan office, or an organisation, charged with interreligious dialogue and related matters. The Letter addresses also some common misconceptions about the idea of interreligious dialogue, and encourages its advocates to carry on this difficult, but so desperately needed, work.
W jaki sposób Kościół może praktykować postawę otwartości, pojednania, zrozumienia i współpracy, niosąc zarazem wiarygodne i przekonujące świadectwo o Królestwie Bożym? Innymi słowy, w jaki sposób winniśmy być chrześcijanami, a przy tym ludźmi misji i dialogu? List do Nowego Biskupa, teologicznie spójny, stanowi zaproszenie do skorzystania z kilku propozycji w tym względzie. Po krótkim przeglądzie terminologii tematu jak misja, ewangelizacja, dialog międzyreligijny i proklamacja, jego autor przechodzi do konkretnych sugestii dotyczących ustanowienia i prowadzenia specjalnej komórki, lub organizacji diecezjalnej, obarczonej zadaniem prowadzenia dialogu międzyreligijnego i zajmowania się wszelkimi innymi związanymi z nim tematami. W dalszym ciągu Listu jego autor zmierza się z kilkoma najbardziej rozpowszechnionymi błędnymi mniemaniami na temat dialogu międzyreligijnego, oraz zachęca jego zwolenników do kontynuowania tego trudnego, ale jakże potrzebnego, dzieła.

Modern prisons are viewed in this paper as highly specific configurations, providing a critical infrastructure for the forging of a new relationship between subjects and the imperial state. The comparison of three rather different temporal and spatial practices of territorial incorporation makes it possible to describe the introduction of modern statehood in nineteenth century Poland and Lithuania as a long-term process, including a radically changed legal framework. It was accompanied by the ongoing codification of penal law by all three partitioning powers, which is outlined in the first part of this paper. The article offers a deep analysis of the establishment of new practices of incarceration in remote places (vis-à-vis the imperial capitals) as an inherent part of a changing relationship between centre and periphery within the Prussian, Russian and Habsburg Empires. They were among a broad range of new bureaucratic practices fostering the territorialisation of statehood. By enlarging the presence of selected actors in remote parts of the Central European Empires, they established a direct and bidirectional relationship between the representatives of the state and its subjects. By analysing the way in which the partitioning powers re-used monasteries as infrastructures for the introduction of new penal practices in the early nineteenth century, this article offers a better understanding of the long-term structural changes. A two-step argumentation follows the functional logic of the relationship between religious spaces designed for introspection and spaces for solitary confinement. As a consequence of the reform discourse, new prison complexes were erected in the second half of the nineteenth century. They produced a highly institutionalized and structured space for the reconfiguration of the relationship between the subject and the state. An ideal version of this relationship was described in normative documents, such as prison instructions. In analysing them, this article focuses on the state-led implementation of religious practices, as they played a major role in the redesign of this relationship following the establishment of new prison complexes.
