Opis:
An analytical approach was developed for rectangular platelet reinforced composites which could be used for a 3D elastic stress field distribution subjected to an applied axial load. The ends of the platelet could be bonded to the matrix. Exact displacement solutions were derived for the matrix/platelet fromtheory of elasticity. These displacement solutions were then superposed for achieving analytical expressions for the matrix/platelet 3D stress field components over the entire composite system including the platelet end region, using the adding imaginary fiber technique. The platelet/matrix components could exactly satisfy the equilibrium and compatibility conditions and satisfy the equilibrium requirements and the overall boundary conditions. The obtained analytical results were then validated by FEM and Shear-lag modeling, and some of discrepancies among the shear-lag models were resolved. Good agreements were observed between the analytical and numerical predictions.

Opis:
High density polyethylene/carbon nanotube composites have been produced for investigations. Four CNT volume fractions and two injection pressures were considered. According to the Taguchi approach, eight experiments were designed. The effect of the carbon nanotubes weight fraction and injection pressure on hardness and impact strength of nanocomposite samples were investigated. The results showed that the effect of the carbon nanotube weight fraction on hardness and impact strength of nanocomposite samples was much higher than the effect of injection pressure. By adding 1%wt (weight) carbon nanotube into the polymer, the impact strength and hardness of the samples improved by 74% and 47%, respectively

Opis:
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the biomechanical (stroke rate, stroke length, and stroke index), anthropometrical (body height, body mass, body mass index, arm span, shoulders width, thigh, leg and upper arm lengths), and muscle architectural (muscle thickness, pennation angle, and fascicle length) parameters as predictors of 200-m front crawl swimming performance in young male swimmers. Twenty-two county level male swimmers (mean ±SD: age: 14.52 ± 0.77 years; body height: 173 ± 5 m; body mass: 60.5 ± 5.7 kg) performed a 200-m front crawl swimming test in a 25-m pool. Stepwise regression analysis revealed that biomechanical parameters (87%) characterized best 200-m front crawl swimming performance, followed by anthropometrical (82%) and muscle architectural (72%) parameters. Also, stroke length (R2 = 0.623), body height (R2 = 0.541), fascicle length of Triceps Brachii (R2 = 0.392) were the best single predictors that together explained 92% of the variability of the 200-m front crawl swimming performance in these swimmers. As a conclusion, with respect to higher performance prediction power of biomechanical parameters, technique should represent the core of the training program at these ages. In addition, these findings could be used for male young swimmers selection and talent identification.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to investigate defects in a thin-walled tube bending process (without using mandrel and booster) and effects of friction between the dies and tube on wrinkles. In the tube bending process, there are several effective parameters such as wall thickness, outer diameter-to-wall thickness ratio, centerline bending radius-to-outer diameter ratio and friction coefficient. Any mismatch in the selection of the process parameters would cause defects inducing undesirable variations in wall thickness and cross-section distortion. In this work, firstly, tubes with several wall thickness values are bent, and the final depths of wrinkling and wall thickness change are reviewed. Then, to study the process numerically, numerical simulations are carried out. Then, a series of experimental tests are carried out to verify the simulation results. A comparison between numerical and experimental results shows a reasonable agreement. Finally, in order to obtain a suitable friction condition, the effects of friction coefficients on defects are studied. For this purpose, a series of simulations has been carried out. It shows that at a certain friction coefficient, a minimum wrinkling depth can be observed and variations in the friction coefficient between the dies and tube has no effective influence on wall thinning and thickening.
