Opis:
Ship maneuvering in restricted waters of harbor basins and navigation channels had been the main concern in recent years due to sudden increase of ship’s size. When the ship enters a navigation channel the lateral boundary of the channel exerts a transverse force and turning moment on the ship hull. These forces are so important in the analysis of safety of ship navigation in the channels. Ship model test in the towing tank is a reliable method to evaluate these forces. Therefore systematic model tests are held for modeling of the forces exerted on the tanker ship and dhow model traveling alongside a vertical wall. A database of the interaction forces is developed and the specific hydrodynamic effects related to the phenomena are discussed. The results can be used for simulation of ship maneuvering and assessment of safety limits for navigation of ships alongside the quay walls and breakwaters.

Opis:
This research presents a combination of artificial neural network (ANN) with the grey wolf optimizer (GWO) to improve the power quality of a grid-connected distributed power generation system (DPGS). To assess the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, a grid-tied of small-scale wind energy conversion system (WECS) is chosen. The term power quality refers to voltage and frequency regulation, and limited harmonics. Power quality improvement is achieved through the cascaded control system's optimal tuning of three proportional-integral (PI) controllers of the grid-side inverter (GSI). However, because the DPGS model is computationally costly, the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model is utilized as an alternative model for DPGS. Furthermore, the ANN model is employed in conjunction with the GWO to boost the optimization precision and minimize the execution time of GWO. The considered power system was repetitively simulated to obtain the input-output datasets, which validate and train the ANN model. According to the ANN model's performance evaluation, the correlation coefficient (R) is close to one, while the mean squared error (MSE) is near zero. These findings demonstrate the ANN model's great accuracy in approximating the DPGS model. Using MATLAB/Simulink, the system's performance is evaluated using the optimum values obtained using GWO-ANN for various wind speed profiles. It showed the suggested power quality method’s improved stability, convergence behavior, the effectiveness of the control mechanism, and the robustness of the proposed topology.

Opis:
Radioactive sealed sources and radiotracer techniques are used to diagnose industrial process units. This work introduces a workspace to simulate four sealed sources and radiotracer applications, namely, gamma scanning of distillation columns, gamma scanning of pipes, gamma transmission tomography, and radiotracer fl ow rate measurements. The workspace was created in Geant4 Application for Tomographic Emission (GATE) simulation toolkit and was called Industrial Radioisotope Applications Virtual Laboratory. The fl exibility of GATE and the fact that it is an open-source software render it advantageous to radioisotope technology practitioners, educators, and students. The comparison of the simulation results with experimental results that are available in the literature showed the effectiveness of the virtual laboratory.

Opis:
Actinium-225 is used in nuclear medicine for the treatment of malignant tumours. It can be applied to produce Bi-213 in a reusable generator or can be used alone as an agent for radiation therapy, in particular for targeted alpha therapy. However, the availability of Ac-225 for worldwide use, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, is limited. We present a feasibility study employing GATE, an open-source Monte Carlo simulation toolkit, on the production of Ac-225 from a neutron generator. This work suggests that a design consisting of three concentric cylinders, the innermost a Cf-252 neutron source, the middle nickel cylinder acting as a proton-producing target and the outer cylinder a RaCl2 target may provide a feasible design outline for an Ac-225 generator.

Opis:
By 2050, global crop demand is projected to rise by 60-110%. Crop yields have also been impacted by cli mate change in some nations, and these impacts are likely to continue. To prevent the influence of climate change on crop output, it is critical to adjust planting times in weather-related open fields to meet food security concerns. Present study was carried out at Experimental Farm of Faculty of Agriculture, Al-Azhar University, Assiut, Egypt, during two successive seasons, 2019 and 2020. It was aimed to study the effect of different sowing times (1st and 15th October, 1st and 15th November), and plant spacings (25, 20, and 15 cm) on growth, fruit yield, and oil production of caraway (Carum carvi L.) plants. The results showed that sowing caraway plants on 15th October with plant spacing of 25 cm gave the highest dry weight (72.6 g∙plant-1), fresh weight (266.15 g∙plant-1), seed yield (37.43 g∙plant-1), and oil yield (0.659 cm 3∙plant-1). The maximum umbels (50.83 number per plant) and essential oil (1.78%) were also recorded in the plants receiving same treatment. On the other hand, plants sown at 15th November with spacing of 15 cm exhibited the minimum values of recorded traits. While the highest value of plant height gave with sowing caraway plants on 15th October with plant spacing of 15 cm (135.35 cm). In conclusion, the plants sowed on October 15th with a maximum plant spacing of 25 cm had the highest values of the evaluated morphological, biochemical, and yield attributes of caraway.

Opis:
The idea of cancelable biometrics is widely used nowadays for user authentication. It is based on encrypted or intentionally-distorted templates. These templates can be used for user verification, while keeping the original user biometrics safe. Multiple biometric traits can be used to enhance the security level. These traits can be merged together for cancelable template generation. In this paper, a new system for cancelable template generation is presented depending on discrete cosine transform (DCT) merging and joint photographic experts group (JPEG) compression concepts. The DCT has an energy compaction property. The low-frequency quartile in the DCT domain maintains most of the image energy. Hence, the first quartile from each of the four biometrics for the same user is kept and other quartiles are removed. All kept coefficients from the four biometric images are concatenated to formulate a single template. The JPEG compression of this single template with a high compression ratio induces some intended distortion in the template. Hence, it can be used as a cancelable template for the user acquired from his four biometric traits. It can be changed according to the arrangement of biometric quartiles and the compression ratio used. The proposed system has been tested through merging of face, palmprint, iris, and fingerprint images. It achieves a high user verification accuracy of up to 100%. It is also robust in the presence of noise.
