Bio-stimulants are in excessive demand for the sustainable production of floriculture crops. The current investigation was designed to find out the effect of naturally occurring growth stimulant moringa leaf extract (MLE) on the growth, flowering, post-harvest life and corm production of two gladiolus cultivars (cvs.) ‘Rose Supreme’ and ‘White Prosperity’. The research trial was laid out in the factorial arrangement under randomized complete block design. Corms were grown in the open field under local climatic conditions of Faisalabad, Pakistan. Potential of exogenously applied (MLE; 30 times diluted) was evaluated. Treatments including spraying MLE at 3 leaves, 5 leaves, floral bud stage, one combination of these three stages relative to control with no foliar application. Application of natural bio-stimulant produced maximum height in both cvs. against T4. Both cvs. gave maximum stalk length in response to T4. The number of florets spike–1 found the maximum (13) in T1 compared to control T0 which yield (9) florets. Maximum vase life in sucrose solution (13.33 days) was exhibited by T1 for both cvs. while minimum (10 days) in T0. In cultivar comparison earlier spike emergence was observed in ‘White Prosperity’. In ‘Rose Supreme’ maximum corm weight was attained in response to T3 (43.43 g) while minimum (30.33 g) in T0.‘White Prosperity’ produced maximum weight (40.33 g) against T4 whereas minimum by control. The cultivar mean comparison showed the superiority of cormel diameter in ‘Rose Supreme’ (10.93 mm) than ‘White Prosperity’ (9.13 mm). In treatment comparison, T4 produced maximum diameter (12.04 mm) in ‘Rose Supreme’ moreover, T2 induced maximum (9.57 mm) diameter in ‘White Prosperity’.

This experiment was designed to know the effect of upper limb postural deviations on grip strength and grip endurance time. A full factorial design of experiment, i.e., 3 (0°, 45°, 90° abduction angles of upper arm) ´ 3 (45°, 90°, 135° angles of elbow flexion) ´ 3 (0°, –60° prone, +60° supine angles of forearm rotation) was used to find the effect of 27 combinations of postures on maximum voluntary contraction (MVC) grip strength and grip endurance time. The results showed that none of the main factors were significant on MVC grip, although there was a change in MVC grip. Grip endurance time significantly decreased with an increase in upper arm abduction. Also, grip endurance significantly increased with the elbow flexion angle and decreased with forearm rotation from neutral. These data will help designers and engineers to improve the workplace and tools to reduce the risk of injuries.

Opis:
The influence of pre-sowing seed treatments on germination, seedling growth, ion accumulation and plant antioxidant system in spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivar MH-97 was examined under control and saline conditions. Albeit, all pre-sowing seed treatments were effective in improving seedling fresh and dry weight under saline conditions, the effect of hormonal priming with kinetin was very pronounced particularly in improving seedling vigor. The plants raised from seeds primed with kinetin have maximum root and shoot lengths under saline conditions while pre-sowing chilling treatment increased shoot length maximally whereas halopriming increased root length maximally under non-saline conditions. The Na⁺ uptake was decreased while K⁺ uptake was increased in plants due to hormonal priming with kinetin and hydropriming under stress conditions. Except halopriming, all seed treatments significantly increased leaf protein contents under non-saline conditions, however decreased under saline conditions. Halopriming resulted in a significant increase in protein concentration. Catalase (CAT) activity was significantly increased under salinity stress, however, hormonal priming and halopriming treatments maximally increased CAT activity. All the seed treatments were effective in increasing superoxide dismutase (SOD) level but hormonal priming with kinetin maximally increased its activity under stress conditions. Although all pre-sowing seed treatments were effective in alleviating the adverse effect of the salt stress on wheat plants, their effects on altering the concentration of different ions, seedling growth and plant antioxidant system were different in the wheat plants.
Chociaż wszystkie przedsiewne traktowania nasion skutecznie poprawiały ilość świeżej i suchej masy siewek w warunkach stresu solnego, wpływ traktowania hormonami (kinetyną) był szczególnie wyraźny w poprawie żywotności siewek. Rośliny otrzymane z nasion traktowanych kinetyną miały największą długość korzenia i pędu w warunkach stresu solnego, podczas gdy przedsiewne chłodzenie nasion najbardziej stymulowało wzrost pędu, a traktowanie nasion roztworem soli (halopriming) najbardziej stymulowało wzrost korzenia w warunkach kontrolnych. Pobieranie Na⁺ było mniejsze, natomiast pobieranie K⁺ większe u roślin traktowanych kinetyną lub wodą w warunkach stresu. Za wyjątkiem osmokondycjonowania, wszystkie metody traktowania nasion znacznie zwiększały zawartość białka w liściach w warunkach bez stresu solnego, a zmniejszały w warunkach stresu solnego. Osmokondycjonowanie powodowało znaczny wzrost stężenia białek. Aktywność katalazy (CAT) wzrastała w warunkach stresu solnego, jednakże traktowanie hormonami i osmokondycjonowanie maksymalnie zwiększało aktywność CAT.

Opis:
Water extracts from allelopathic crops possess the potential to control weeds effectively, especially when used in combination with reduced rates of herbicides. Label doses of different herbicides and their seventy percent reduced doses, were combined with 18 l/ha each of allelopathic sorghum and sunflower water extracts (WE). This combination was sprayed 30 days after sowing (DAS) for weed control in wheat (Triticum aestivum). Maximum reduction in total weed density and dry weight over the control, was recorded in a field sprayed with mesosulfuron + idosulfuron (Atlantis 3.6 WG) at 14.4 g active substance (a.s.)/ha. However, sorghum + sunflower WE each at 18 l/ha combined with doses which had been reduced by 70% of mesosulfuron + idosulfuron (Atlantis 12 EC at 36 g a.s./ha), or metribuzin + phenoxaprop (Bullet 38 SC at 57 g a.s./ha) or mesosulfuron + idosulfuron (Atlantis 3.6 WG at 4.32 g a.s./ha), reduced total weed dry weight by more than 90%, over the control. Sorghum and sunflower water extracts each at 18 l/ha combined with metribuzin + phenoxaprop (Bullet 38 SC at 57 g a.s./ha) produced a maximum number of productive tillers, spikelets per spike, number of grains per spike, biological yield and grain yield. Moreover, this treatment was the most economical along with having the maximum net benefits. The results suggested that weeds can be controlled in wheat, for a higher yield, when a 70% reduced herbicide dose is used in combination with allelopathic sorghum and sunflower water extracts.

Opis:
Application of wavelet decomposition is described to speed up the mixed speech signal separation with the help of non-negative matrix factorisation (NMF). It is assumed that the basis vectors of training data of individual speakers had been recorded. In this paper, the spectrogram magnitude of a mixed signal has been factorised with the help of NMF with consideration of sparseness of speech signals. The high frequency components of signal contain very small amount of signal energy. By rejecting the high frequency components, the size of input signal is reduced, which reduces the computational time of matrix factorisation. The signal of lower energy has been separated by using wavelet decomposition. The present work is done for wideband microphone speech signal and standard audio signal from digital video equipment. This shows an improvement in the separation capability using the proposed model as compared with an existing one in terms of correlation between separated and original signals. Obtained signal to distortion ratio (SDR) and signal to interference ratio (SIR) are also larger as compare of the existing model. The proposed model also shows a reduction in computational time, which results in faster operation.

The effects of ultraviolet laser radiation on the structure and optical properties of allyl diglycol carbonate have been investigated. The allyl diglycol carbonate samples were irradiated with 266 nm with different power densities from Nd:YAG laser. The bulk etch rate enhancement and enlargement of track diameter clearly indicate that allyl diglycol carbonate is significantly affected by UV laser. The laser-irradiated allyl diglycol carbonate samples showed a decrease in the optical band gap with increasing laser power density. The obtained results indicate that the optical band gap of the alpha irradiated polymer is varied from 4.10 eV to 2.65 eV by UV laser irradiation.

Opis:
Stratigraphical and sedimentological analyses of Late Neoproterozoic successions in Lesser Himalaya are combined herein with palaeogeographical considerations and comparisons with equivalent successions in India and South China. The succession starts with the Hazara Formation, which contains complete and incomplete Bouma sequences suggesting its deposition in deep marine turbidite settings. The overlying Tanawal Formation, rich in massive sandstone, shale and siltstone, was deposited in shallow marine conditions, as indicated by the presence of parallel lamination, large scale tabular, trough cross- and hummocky cross-stratifications. The Tanawal Formation facies shift laterally from proximal (south-southeast) to distal (north-northwest). The glaciogenic Tanaki Boulder Bed, overlying the Tanawal Formation, was deposited during the Maronian glaciation. It is equivalent to the Blaini Formation of India, and to the Sinian diamictites of South China. The Abbottabad Formation of Cambrian age overlies the Tanaki Boulder Bed, and is composed of dolomite, chert nodules and phosphate-rich packages; similar successions are documented in India and South China at the same stratigraphical interval. The similarities of the Neoproterozoic successions of Lesser Himalaya (both in Pakistan and India) and South China suggests their possible proximity during the break-up of Rodinia and the assembly of the Gondwana Supercontinent.

The Pt doped CdO films are transformed to clusters with nanoparticles. The transparency properties of the CdO thin film is changed with Pt doping. The plots of refractive index indicate abnormal and normal dispersion regions. The refractive index values of the CdO thin film are changed with Pt doping. The direct optical band gap values of the films were changed with doping of Pt. The film of 0.5% Pt doped CdO indicates the lowest optical band gap value (2.421 eV). The imaginary parts of the optical conductivity of the CdO and Pt doped CdO thin films are higher than that of the real parts of the optical conductivity.

Spray droplet size has long been recognized as an important variable that applicators of vector control sprays must be aware of to make the most effective spray applications. Researchers and applicators have several different techniques available to assess spray droplet size from spray nozzles. The objective of this study was to compare the droplet size spectrum produced by three nozzles commonly used in vector control in a high-speed wind tunnel, when characterized using three different laser-based droplet size measurement systems. Three droplet sizing systems: Malvern Spraytec laser diffraction, Sympatec HELOS laser diffraction, and TSI Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer (PDPA), were simultaneously operated, but under different operating conditions, to measure the spray droplet size-spectra for three spray nozzles. The three atomizers: a TeeJet® 8001E even flat fan nozzle, a BETE® PJ high pressure fog nozzles, and a Micronair ® AU5000 rotary atomizer were evaluated in a high speed wind tunnel at airspeeds of 53 and 62 m/s (120 and 140 mph). Based on the results of this work, only the BETE® PJ high pressure fog nozzles met the label requirements for both Fyfanon® and Anvil®. While the other nozzle might met the Dv0.5 (VMD - volume median diameter) requirement for Fyfanon®, the resulting Dv0.9 values exceeded labeled size restrictions. When applying Anvil with the BETE PJ high pressure fog nozzles, it is important to use the smaller two orifice sizes. The larger sizes tended to result in Dv0.9 values that exceeded label recommendations.
