Opis:: Indoor radon measurements were performed using LR-115 type-II solid state nuclear track detectors in Sakarya University in classrooms, laboratories and offices during the period from July 2013 to June 2014. The results show that the radon concentration in studied buildings ranges from 0.20±0.04 to 94.1±10 Bq/m³ with an average value of 40±5 Bq/m³. The annual effective doses from radon were estimated to range from 0.18 to 2.00 mSv/y with a mean value of 1.00 mSv/y. These results indicate no radiological health hazard, as the measured activities are well below International Commission on Radiological Protection recommended level of 200 Bq/m³ for indoor radon.

Opis:: In this work, we have determined the Nilsson quantum numbers of the ground state of the odd-odd ^{138,140}Pr nucleus for the first time. To achieve it, several low energy neutron-proton two quasiparticle levels have been calculated in ^{138,140}Pr nuclei using deformed Woods-Saxon potential basis. The Gamov-Teller β^{(+)} decay transition matrix elements from these levels to the ground state of the neighbor ^{138,140}Ce nuclei and log ft values have been calculated. From the comparison of theoretical and experimental log ft values and neutron-proton K quantum numbers the ground state Nilsson quantum numbers of the odd-odd isotopes have been determined as {n[402]3/2-p[413]5/2}_{1^+} for two isotopes.

Opis:: The paper presents the results of radon concentration measurements in thermal waters of Kuzuluk and Taraklı (Sakarya, Turkey) and their contribution to annual effective dose exposure. The radon measurements were performed using RAD 7, a solid state α detector, with RAD H₂O accessory. The results show that the radon activities are within the range of 0.19-5.89 Bql¯¹ with an average value of 0.98 Bql¯¹. The associated annual effective doses have been estimated to range from 0.14 to 0.40 μSvy¯¹ for ingestion and from 1.81 to 5.14 μSvy¯¹for inhalation of radon released from the water. These values are significantly lower than the WHO recommended limit of 100 μSvy¯¹

Opis:: In this study, the quadrupole moments of the $\text{}^{166-180}Hf,$ $\text{}^{180-186}W$ and $\text{}^{152-168}Sm$ isotopic chains have been calculated by using the Woods-Saxon mean field potential in the framework of the superfluid model of the atomic nucleus. Our calculation showed that the deformation parameter mainly used in literature overestimates the actual values of deformation parameters β₂ by 10% for the well-deformed rare-earth nuclei. Besides, the contribution of the hexadecapole deformation to all quadrupole moments in question is smaller than 0.01 barn. The results showed that the theoretical values of the quadrupole moments are in good agreement with the previous theoretical works which have been done only for Sm isotopes and the corresponding experimental data for nuclei in question. The best theoretical value for quadrupole moment has been reached for the $\text{}^{152}Sm$ isotope.
